Hi, y'all! I'm unlisting some of my printing videos (not deleting them). Here's a playlist with all of the printing videos I made: th-cam.com/play/PLIT3fFHocOHhIjO8YGKRnKzu9V4AfTT32.html
    Happy printing ✌️

Dude, I really appreciate you giving us some closure on this. More importantly, I’m delighted to see that you got your health back on track and you’re going to be making more videos. I said this in another comment. I started watching for the printing content but what kept me watching was your commitment to the videos you made. Your ability to distil and simplify a complex topic like printing into fun, educational and entertaining content is exceptional. And it’s going to translate into cycling or any other endeavour you set your mind to. I’ve no interest in cycling but I know your videos will be great and I’ll learn some stuff so I’ll keep watching. And, whatever you do, don’t feel compelled to create for anyone’s benefit other than your own. You don’t owe anyone anything. And we’ll be grateful for whatever you’re happy to share. Peace ✌️

Man ! I was obsessed with your videos about printing. Recently I was looking for them again. I was unable to find them or you again. I tried so many things to try to find you again on this website. I thought you were completely gone. It's only then I remembered you having a video about your dog and photoshopping him as a giant. I'm so glad I finally find you again and you didn't deleted your printing videos. I wish you all the best in your new endeavor and a healthy and happy life. Thanks again for your videos and your work, I'm gonna binge them again, they are really cool.

First of all I’m glad to hear from you. It was quite clear that you were stressed out toward the end of the print shop days, and having been through that place in my own life several times over the last five years with the passing of both my parents, work uncertainty for my wife and other stuff I know it’s overwhelming. I thought about sending a message but looking at myself I knew what you really needed was some breathing room. That said I’m actually more interested in your cycling videos now. Full disclosure I’m 80 plus lighter now than my profile pic. Used the pandemic as an opportunity to continue a health journey started in late 2019, and fourteen months of Peloton has gotten me back out on the road bike. Seeing so many neat things outdoors to photograph on my rides without any agenda is the best, and your video of the ride up to Griffith was quite enjoyable. You’re a good guy with high standards and passion for your craft, and I hope you’ll be able to channel that passion AND have fun too. Please continue to document your LA life for us East Coast folks! And please share some info on your bike.

Mitch, Thanks for this video. I’m not into cycling, so . . . but let me affirm that you’re a really fine story teller. The things that drew me to your printing videos (except fo the fact that also run a small print studio) were your grasp of the nuances of printing (that’s pretty rare, actually) AND your ability to express / teach about these things in a clear, entertaining, and “charming” sort of way. Your passion for the subject infused and energized the content. (One of the reasons it’s hard for me to accept that you’ve packed it in for now.) Passion is a key ingredient for life and the ability to communicate passion is a wonderful thing… and again, actually kind of rare. But passion can also “kill you” and I think you may have been experiencing some of that lately too! Best of luck moving forward. I’ll keep watching, even though at my age it is unlikely there’s a bike in my future.

    Hi Mitch,
I am really pleased that you are no longer stressed about your small business but sad that there are to be no more videos about printing.
I have watched a LOT of printing videos but I particularly liked your simple to understand explanations, told in your inimitable style.
They certainly helped me on my quest to learn how to print well (still going!) and for that I am grateful.
May I pop a little thought into your head?
That perhaps in a year or two, that you buy a smaller printer and resume your printing tutorials?
I spent 20 years working for a daily newspaper here in Melbourne, Australia but the style of the paper changed, so I left.
I did not take a picture for two years.
I then started my own small business as a freelance photographer (so I understand the stresses of running such a venture) and decided to retire aftert 20 years of working for myself..
I now really enjoy my photography status as an amateur again so please just keep it in your mind that you may start to print (and make videos!) again, someday.
All the best in whatever direction your life takes.
ps. Great to see you have a very well behaved dog.

what a pleasant guy! so good that you got out from under the stress of the business...there are times when, no matter how much you love the work, the business, the customers, the constant need to *deliver* become so overwhelming that you really begin to suffer. you've taken the 'step back' , and, maybe, some time, you'll rekindle some joy in producing art. Maybe. But you'll find a new road to travel, new joys to find...live life to its fullest!

Best of luck to you and your new (ad)ventures! Enjoyed the videos, I can relate having worked my way in sports photography up the chain to the professional sports level I made the conscious decision that was not for me, too stressful, decided to dial it back to just prep sports where I can pick and choose the venues and the amount of time spent, leaving time for other things in life. Good advice on experimenting and changing variables one at a time, the thing I would add is to journal such experimentation. Nowadays one can journal and include images, etc, after a while and hundreds of images and settings & treatments it can all become a blur so nice to have something concrete to refer back to.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart for your printing vids, they helped me out a lot. Biking is my first love so I’m excited to see your angle and will enjoy your storytelling.
Fun tidbit about rashes: After years of trying to figure out what was wrong with my skin… I finally realized I’d break out whenever I was handling a lot of prints. I have some sort of occupational hand dermatitis. Whenever I work with prints my fingerprints basically disappear and my skin starts to itch and get red splotches. It’s awful. Like on top of the stress of trying to get a print to look gorgeous, it turns out my immune system hates printing too. I don’t doubt your rashes were stress induced but being right next to that printer while it’s constantly cleaning itself and evaporating ink solvents, and touching trade secret ingredients in the papers and inks for hours at a time with sensitive skin probably didn’t help. I was pretty bummed when I figured that out. I’m going to see if 100% gloves only contact helps.

@@MitchBoyer There are a few TH-cam videos I really value a lot. One is the one by Phil Gaimon from last year, where he embraces everyone one a bike into the community no matter at what level they are at and where he makes a point to the „old“ bikers to follow along and not be obnoxious (no link, sorry, but it is titled „IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL THE NEW CYCLISTS DURING COVID, AND a Note to Experienced Riders“ ) and the other one is yours of printing a contact sheet on that insanely big Canon Pro 4000 and then developing one print out of it.
In both I see professionals, with their heart and mind into their craft, who have excelled beyond the „regular crowd“ by talent and time spent on their passion.
Don‘t get too stressed about what other people „demand“ of you. You are making an impact by being exactly who you are.

You are a talented guy and you can always come back to your work when you're in a better place financially. I left photography for some 15 years before making a return. Best of luck. I very much appreciate your advice.

PS: I forgot your name and couldn't find your channel for awhile. Then I fed "Weiner dog goes to New York" into the Googles and here I am. Whatever you're paying Vivian, she's worth double! #BrandRecognition

Thanks for all you have done. I'm sad though because I did buy a dye based printer. Love it, but hate I should have gotten the pigment. On the brightside I can hold out until the rebates start kicking in.

Funny as a fellow creative I fell in love with cycling as well, best of luck with everything Mitch. People sub your channel for you and not the prints.

always liked your videos and revisited this one, dont' see if anybody else made the correction but the good pigment inkjet printers are aqueous. The bright colors that fade are the cheaper dye ink printers. The ones that last are aqueous pigment.

Good luck and look after yourself. I'll definitely watch some cycling content because that's one of my passions as well.

It's only a month ago I discovered your channel and I kinda binch-watched your printing videos. (yes I'm subscribed because of the printing) You talked about interesting topics with a real technical background. A lot of the videos out there discuss the basic aspects, like "your need to calibrate your monitor" or "download the paper profiles from the brands website". It's a pity you had to close your printing shop and are not going to make any printing videos anymore. But if your health is effected by your job, then you made the right decision! I'm also glad to finally known what happend and why you suddenly stopped. I can't say if I will stay subscribed for the biking videos, i'll decide after few videos. :-) Good luck either way with your "new" channel!

    WTF dude !
I stopped wildlife photography and therefore stopped following all the youtube channels related to photography. I begin road cycling and I come across your channel by chance saying to myself um... like a deja vu feeling ! I'm so happy to have one more quality TH-cam channel to follow!

I just found your channel. It’s funny that we are both cyclist, both ride BMCs, and are both photographers. I enjoy having my work printed, but I send the printing out rather than making prints myself.

As an owner of a small print shop I suffer with severe anger/anxiety issues with my printers and paper 😂.
I guess I’m a perfectionist, so half my giclee prints go in the trash, half my rag paper is thrown (90% of it has flaws right out of the box) and I once picked up one of my A2 Canon printers and slapped it down again only to break the paper tray and misalign the paper feed.
Let’s just say, there’s a lot of swearing involved.
It is stressful but I just can’t outsource as their packaging and prints aren’t up to scratch.
If I wasn’t making a profit from this I would probably just sell digital art.
Thanks for your tips in this video, I’ll still be here for the cycling.

I discovered your channel 3 days ago, one day later I found out that your not doing it anymore 🙁. Most important is to know that you are fine and you health is going in the right direction. Even if you are not printing anymore why you don’t do videos about photo/ video editing topics? Keep safe, keep healthy. All the best!
