That is ...interesting. I don't use too many non-procedural textures any more, thanks to you, but this is partly why. Opens up some new possibilities. Thanks again.
Thank you for your support! Are you wanting an eyes and mouth sculpting tutorial, or just 3d modeling? And are you wanting it to be realistic, or stylized?
I'm following this from having no plugins in, and the "ctrl-shift-t" isn't doing anything. Is there another way to do this? What is it called so I can look for it in the menus/settings?
Thank you for your tutorial!!! It would be great if you do some video to fix some procedural texture without using UV or shoqing how to fix it when it is not looking great. :) (Or you just already done it?)
It looks very nice!! Could it be possible to bake now the produced textureblending down to a simple uv-unwrapped layout? I’m thinking of exporting produced stuff like that into an engine… and there UV would be better to handle, but the result would be perfect if it is able to get „baked“.?!?
hello i recently found your channel after wanting to learn blender, and i was wondering if you could do a series on how to make dinosaurs in blender? or if you have any suggestions for videos abt that. :)
@@RyanKingArt I was thinking box projection is the same thing as triplanar but maybe box projection is both direction and triplanar is one direction per each axis
You're a lifesaver Mr. King, thank you. :) I was so stressed out that I couldn't get the nice rock texture I made to behave when I applied it to a round boulder, but with your method it now looks fantastic. :)
im subbing!! i need to learn more of these!! I worked for game dev in the past creating 3d characters and everything needs to be UV'd!! now im doing arch viz, I just realized i can skip UV'ing!!
Just make sure the mesh has a decent UV layout, and then bake it. When you bake a texture, it will bake to the UV map of the object. Then once the textures are baked, replace the material with a new material that is using the baked textures.
I wish this method had worked for me, when I from uv to object in the shader and changed flat to box, it got all distorted. I just had to go back to my original method of making a seam underneath the rock for it to look good. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong :(
OMG You teach us most easiest way to apply texture. That's why you're amazing Guy. I love your tutorial like realistic banana procedure texture and also apple that's the long length videos but I am enjoying I wish you All the best sir
well, as i'm just beginning and would like to focus on being good at sculpting first, this is perfect, i can finally get a preview of my work if i was doing retopo and uv unwrapping properly XD
Another wonderful tutorial… does the rock generator come with UVs by default like every other primitive. Or can this method work for any object modeled
for a game you want as little overhead as possible. this is basically dynamic uving. its much more costly at runtime than a static uv system. so beware your paying for it.
If your using it for a game, you might want to bake the textures to new texture maps, after you set this up. Not sure if this method of texturing with work in other software, like a game engine.
The only issue with that method is that texture won't apply properly when you export your objects (as obj, fbx, etc). Other than that it's very useful and a lot less cumbersome than using UV maps
I see that the downloaded Normal textures have different name suffixes and differ visually. Tell me, in which cases it is preferable to use Normal D(irect)X map, and which Normal (Open)GL? Why did you choose DX?

A lifesaver as my UVs were messing up texturing completely. Btw those rocks look fantastic and a great way to shape them too.
thanks for watching!
Many thanks, Ryan, for this super-useful tutorial!
Thank you for your Super Thanks! 😀 I really appreciate your support!
Ryan thanks a lot! had always had trouble with ugly seams!
glad it helped!
Very nice texturing! I was searching this as I'm doing this in 3DSMax in the old days.
Thanks! Hope you find the tutorial helpful.
Bro, you have no ideia how much this helped me for the cave I'm making in my video. Simple solution. Thank you so much!

@@RyanKingArt oh, thanks for getting back i was kinda hoping it would be more realistic and 3d modeld instead of sculpted for what i was trying to do

say grass on top of a cube and cobblestone underneath.

Is this triplanar projection?
Hmm, I think it might do a similar effect as triplanar projection.
@@RyanKingArt I was thinking box projection is the same thing as triplanar but maybe box projection is both direction and triplanar is one direction per each axis
we called it triplanar .
Ahh ok. Got it 👍

Is Ptex dead? Because you don't hear much about it anymore.

Wow- this is new to me -
I would love to understand HOW it works/ what “boxed” means.
I believe it makes a box around a mesh, and them projects the texture from all sides into the mesh.

oh my god you saved me Thank u Thank u Tahnk u!!!!
You're welcome!
How would someone bake this resulting texture to the same mesh/a copy of the mesh that was already UV unwrapped?
Just make sure the mesh has a decent UV layout, and then bake it. When you bake a texture, it will bake to the UV map of the object. Then once the textures are baked, replace the material with a new material that is using the baked textures.
@@RyanKingArt Aah, I see. Thanks!

this box/blended mapping is cool, but I have problems with normal map textures. sometimes it inverted, I think it is a bug in blender

This method of texturing should work for any objects. And no, the rocks don't have any UV map when you first add them.
This method is ideal for old stone structures such as castles. Adjusting the UV coordinates can sometimes take a very long time. Thank you! 🏆
Yeah! I love this texturing method. thanks : )

Is there a downside of using this method instead of using uv wrapping?
You would have to bake the textures if you want to use it in another program, I suppose.

yes thats right. If you want to use it in another 3d program, you will need to bake it to texture maps.

I'm pretty sure for Blender its best to use the GL version.
