The Crazy World of CEX: Episode 4 - Peterborough, Huntington & London

- Welcome to the crazy world of CEX! My continuing mission to visit every CEX store, in the world! From the weird to the wonderful, the big to the small I plan to visit them all. So join me for an epic adventure to visit them all all while building my dream game collection along the way!
When shopping in CEX, it is very much like playing the stock market, it’s all about watching those prices and taking advantage of the rise and fall and knowing the best time to buy, so this time we’re trying to buy games for consoles which I think will rise or price over the next few years.
This time we’ll be going to three different CEX stores from all over the U.K. out of the hundreds of stores, and even though they’re all part of a chain, they’re all so different, whilst finishing the episode as usual in my local CEX store of Norwich.
Firstly time we’re off to Peterborough, a larger store but as we’re about to find out, size doesn’t necessarily matter. But one things for sure you’ll never find another CEX store with more copies of Doom 2016 for the PC lol.
Next up we’re off to the tiny store just down the road in Huntington. Now while small this store is absolutely STACKED with some of the best retro I’ve seen in a CEX store for ages including PS1, SNES and Megadrive!
And speaking of PS1 whilst in Huntington I also picked up 2 Platinum PS1 games for my other series the Playstation Platinum Project, my mission to try and collect the entire set of 160 PS1 platinum games released here in the pal region, all in the slave of just one year, check out the series here:

Finally this time we’re heading to the birthplace of CEX, the very first store that opened, right in the heart of London! Is was so interesting to visit the very first CEX store and to see where it all started and what spawned such a huge empire! It’s also super cool that this store still carries the Computer Exchange name and branding, it will be interesting to find out if this is the only one that does?
Finally this time we’ll be finishing our adventure in my home town of Norwich and finally picking up a very underpriced survival horror classic and hunting for hidden games!

The Southampton CeX store in the Marlands Shopping Centre is one I’ll look forward to seeing you visit, that along with the one in Milton Keynes both had a huge range of quality retro goodness!

Great episode, and what a fantastic find on that Mega Drive game at the end, absolutely a great deal. And who knows, maybe I'll also find some random NTSC stuff for me too haha
Spotted some more recurring gems I'm looking to find on the shelves there, such as P.N.03 on the Game Cube, great stuff.

Indeed! You can get some really cheap mega drive games in CEX and if you find them CIB it’s even better!
Yeah there’s some real recurring gems and fingered crossed you find a copy of P.N.0.3
The first ever CEX was actually in Whitfield Street. Back then the store was part PC Sales and Upgrades and also did Import Games from US/Japan which was cool back then.
I've been a member since that first store, when my membership card needed replacing the staff at a modern store didnt even recognize the card 😂

The Rathbone Street store opened along with Goodge Street after the Whitfield one closed. Goodge Street was more Computer stuff and Rathbone was more Gaming.

Yeah, Rathbone Place was just Whitfield moving. They did imports up to around the turn of the century, I got my Saturn modded there. I still have my original Exchange only card, paper in a cold seal pouch! It's fun to pull it out (along with my new one) to see the reaction of the staff.
Nice pick ups mate esp the Mega Drive game, I wonder if those copies of Doom PC were from someone who owned or co-owned a game shop as that seems a lot for someone to trade in that sort of quantity of the same game?
Yeah super happy with that MegaDrive game, boxed in good condition for £8 can’t go wrong!
Yeah it was crazy I don’t think I’ve ever seen THAT man copies of the same game in CEX!
I actually see lots of people buy dvds that queue in front of me in cex, im always really surprised how many get picked up.
I’m suppose it’s one of the few places left to buy them on the high street and the prices ain’t to bad

Hoping to get back to the fine city next season for some home games, haven't been to the CEX for a few years.

the basement used to have all the retro stuff then it got flooded sad they lost alot.

i have sust started collecting i am really struggling to pick a console to collect for tbh
The Xbox 360 is super cheap to collect for at the moment and has TONS of good games!

I brought three copies of the last of us just after Xmas £4 each, selling for £12 now £8 trade in. Do you think it will go up anymore?
I feel like sadly it may go down again soon now the show has finished. But that’s the risk I guess with playing the CEX stock market, trying to decide when to sell…
@@DanTheGamesMan I noticed last week it went to £10 and £6 trade in then up again this week... I could t believe it was only £4 to start with! Kicking myself I didn't pick up a fourth copy in crap converters for £2 around the same time

There is absolutely no difference in the Viewtiful Joe variations. They were both available day one. Im assuming it was a Marketing idea? But any VJ fan would know Pink the the one! VIEWTIFUL!

Ive got about 40 vita games now theyve gone up in proce so much since last year... resistance fall of man was £10 for so long, same as nfs, killzone amd many others. Spoderman though on vita went up to about £90 last year now its down to £60
I think it does show that the majority have gone up it’s always the exclusives that seem to rise first and it’s games like Resistance, Uncharted and Killzone which are must haves!
@@DanTheGamesMan yh, people think 10 to 15 or 10 to 18 isn't much but it's a 50% and 80% increase. Crazy to think I brought and sold about five ps vitas before I decided to buy keep and collect. All the times I sold I re brought the system and games for next to nothing by today's standards! Especially when in a bundle 🤯
@@j1m909 I’m still amazed the PSP hasn’t gone the same way. But I guess PS Vita games are so much more obscure

the first cex was in warren street visited it a few times,also lucky all the american cex shut helps with your quest lol

Yeah I’ve been told plenty of times they can’t accept them for a trade in, but I guess a few slip through the net
I never knew this but here's a crazy cex story for ya. I can only sell maximum 3 of the same game. Anymore and they'll make a bundle deal 🤷♂️🙄. Thanks cex I can't make trade profit but you can sell a pokemon game for £95. Rules for me but not for you
I think they’ve had the rule for a while sadly probably to stop people trading in so many copies of Doom lol it is a shame though
