For some reason I find the sound of sonic and tails making the sound bar crack when they both do the spin dash is satisfying
The acoustic "His World" completion music really tops it off. I feel like this is one of the most underrated results screen songs of all time, it jgives me such a rush of respite like a wild adventure was just finished, and it's time to relax.
I know it's a mod, but seeing Hyper Sonic catch a bomb to the face and actually taking damage was disheartening af lol

It might look like it but it just removes the concept of momentum and the reward for gaining it, like in sonic rush
AceCanti What if it was a much more limited resource? Say you only got one tick of boost every 10-20 rings or so, and it burned out in less than half a second if you held the button? Maybe you’d lose a tick or two if you got hit, not enough to make the game unfun but enough to discourage mistakes?
Heavily limiting boost would still encourage the player to learn how to get by without it, while also incentivizing finding the best places to use it when boost *is* available- knowing the difference between spots where a split second of boost is impactful and spots where you can build up/maintain speed without it would naturally confer a huge advantage, and one that could only be gained through memorization and a strong understanding of the game’s fundamental mechanics. It’d help add depth to the formula rather than removing it entirely, and it’d even open up room for no-boost challenge runs for extra replayability (maybe add a hefty score bonus at the end of each act for leftover boost, to drive that home!).
Making boost so easy to build up and use has a lot of room to go wrong when paired with momentum-based gameplay, but adding heavy limitations to it could add a neat strategic element to the classic sonic formula and maybe give it room to evolve in a new and interesting direction.
Sorry if this block of text is unexpected ^^; It just occurred to me as I read your comment and I thought I ought to share!
EDIT: Honestly I’ve been thinking about this over the past few hours and like, every single move that otherwise potentially breaks momentum-based platforming could be tied to this sort of system. Homing attack, light-speed dash, apply a resource cost to all of them and make the player really think about *when* they want to use these techniques. I’m thinking about how it could be expanded into a more generalized point system too, where rings are only one factor and even more important is being able to reach high speeds and maintain them for long periods of time... the possibilities are endless, here!
Did anyone else play Sonic Generations on the 3ds. I was a fricking pro at that game, like, I knew all the shortcuts and when to use the boost. I got S ranks on everything, please tell me I’m not the only one!

That takes me back, I never actually played the 3DS version until later years of the games release back in 2011 and its still fun to me today. I had the console version. 12 years old when that game came out, beat it in one day.

You barely used the boost on some of these
Most 2D Sonic games don’t work with boost since they’re designed around momentum mechanics and not specifically speed. In most cases using boost in these levels would lead to being punished to the lower paths. Even still, it should’ve been edited down more to actually showcase the boost and not just have each bit of game footage play one after the other

Sonic Rush is the best example that, if done right, 2D boost is VERY possible. I loved Rush, and would pay good money to have a sequel to the series, or a remaster.

I love the original boost mecanic in the Rush Series, and the OG 3D boost from Unleashed in awesome too! But, lets be honest, a boost in a 2D Sonic Game is more powerful than Super Sonic, not gonna lie.
