- It's your annual January Blumhouse horror movie! And while "Night Swim" couldn't possibly achieve the cultural significance of "M3GAN," which opened the first weekend of 2023, it's still fun for a while and surprisingly well made. A family moves into a house outside the Twin Cities which features a decaying pool in the backyard. But the promise of afternoon splash parties and soothing evening swims soon turns dangerous. Written and directed by Bryce McGuire, based on his short film with Rod Blackhurst. Starring Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amelie Hoeferle and Gavin Warren. In theaters now.

This one strikes me as a "wait for streaming" film, so I can be vaguely disappointed in the comfort of my own home!
By the way -- there seems to be something funky with the audio for the last couple days. Alonso sounds kinda tin-can and distant (like his audio is coming through is computer mic instead of the mic he's using), and there are these little bumps and pops and hiccups happening on Christie's mic (like there's a loose cable connection). Apologies if this is something specific to me, but I've not noticed it on anything else on the TH-cams.

Does anyone remember the days when Blumhouse used to be well respected, when it came to quality horror movies? What happened?
Tom Cruise vs a Haunted pool would've been a good battle. He can hold his breath for seven minutes, would've loved to hear Ebert's opinion on that lol.
Not for me but I hope it does well because I want nothing but the best for Wyatt Russel and Kerry Conden. Over explaining seems to be an issue for a lot of Blumhouse films.

Another great in the water movie is “12 FEET DEEP.” About 2 girls stuck in a public pool for a weekend. Tobin Bell is in it.

It sounds fun, but I probably won't be seeing this in the theater.
BTW, having lived in NYC for 25 years, London for 2, and now Portland (OR) for a decade, I'm skeptical that LA is ever too cold for running.

Wyatt Russell's episode of Black Mirror was top tier, in my opinion. Probably better than this flick, in my opinion..
this would have had such potential as a weird low budget indie flick but they had to make it a slick CGI fest

This movie was disappointing. It feels like a short story or half an hour TV horror mystery episode similar to how I felt about M Night Shyamalan’s Old. There is definitely not enough to fill a whole movie.
When researching the source of the pool problem, the Ring did it much better ramping up the tension.
I was mildly entertained, but underwhelmed by the lazy script.
PG-13, it looks weak!
I watched this because of the review and its dull. I couldnt believe how dull it was. Dont even get me started about how it became about a weird wishing pond later in the movie and how asian lady was there to exposition late movie about what is going on and wish fufillment. 2/10?
After Talk To Me, all horror movies seem lame. Where Evil Lurks was ok.
it looks very silly. A lot of these films it's like house porn, and that's a business of itself and even then that's also silly concept itself. Because the point of these stories are "the monster was inside of us the whole time." The whole aesthetics of "young adult shoping porn" isn't enough than just a silly rubber suit monster scaring teens.
Just being honest, all this stuff is rubbish.
