I’m a BSN student in an accelerated program. I have NO idea how you guys are able to work, go to school, date, and find the time to study somewhere in between. NO WAY I can do that. Much respect from a 44 year old dude.
I work full time and go to school full time in an accelerated BSN program 😅 it’s not impossible but time management will make or break you.
I’m also in accelerated program :-)

I'm a BSN, RN. Girl, I can't do any exercise anymore. 4 yrs in the field. I sleep whenever I can when I go home or if it's my off then I rest whenever I can while on duty and whenever there's like “free time” and a chair I thank God for the opportunity even though most of it are less than 5 minutes.
But for me, all the workload and tiredness is worth it if you really love nursing and the field you chose.
Please do some more CNA content/how it works into the busy schedule of being a nursing student. It seems like such a great learning opportunity, but I'm nervous I'll be super overwhelmed doing that.

I had so many people tell me "you need to do med-surg first" and I knew I didn't want to do that because I worked on a medsurg floor as a CNA. I always wanted to do something with OB and I got offered a RN position in the maternal float pool so I'll get to get in the NICU, L&D, Peds and Mother Baby! So don't get discouraged!!

Don’t get discouraged about your chances of starting in L&D, so many new grads start out in a specialty unit! I feel like everyone just tries to scare new nurses into starting in med-surg because a lot of people don’t really like it as much lol

As a float cna, i hate being float to med surg! Just got accepted into Rn program and i will definitely not work med surg when i graduate lol🤣
I'm graduating in a couple weeks and starting in the NICU in July. Definitely go for what you want, if you're passionate, the interviewers will see that and it'll set you apart from others. You'll learn everything you need to on your specialty unit. Don't do med surg if you know it'll burn you out.

I started as a new grad in Labor and Delivery two years ago and am still there. Yes I wish I had some medsurg experience but I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything else. Love where I am! I can see that you really want it and will make a fantastic labor nurse!!

i work overnights on an ambulance and i totally get you when you say it still feels like thursday! the days literally blend together.

Loved this video because it was so realistic of what MOST people go through with trying to juggle their busy lives.. it’s hard work!! Reminded me of my nursing school/CNA days :) but keep at it and definitely shoot for your dreams whether it’s in L&D or whatever you end up choosing!!

yes especially working full time in nursing school. i’m about to start working 2-12s in the continuing care nursery at my school’s hospital while in my undergrad and i’m actually terrified. She’s doing so much more and she seems successful so i’m less stressed and more hopeful about this.

Thank you for this video! I'm a nursing student and just received my CNA certification and applying to CNA positions to work in during my last two semesters of nursing school. I think, the in hospital experience will help in my learning and for when I a graduate. I only plan to work part-time or per-diem but not sure if nights or days would be better? I keep hearing nights are great bc it is usually slower and you can find time to study, but it wrecks your sleep schedule vs. days, which are better for your sleep schedule but super busy so it would be hard to find studying time.

No, you do not have to start on med/surge as a new grad nurse.
if you have healthcare experience and you do, you can start on a specialty unit as a new grad nurse.

Don’t listen to them! Start where you want.. I have heard that the nurses who are willing to teach would much rather teach a new nurse who doesn’t already have habits and ways of doing things that they learned on a different unit! Both me and my sister are in different states but we’re both starting as new grads in the icu!

Girl med-surg... sigh I hate managers who try and gate keep and say start in med-surg. NO. You shouldn’t have to if you don’t want to. If you are competent and willing to learn the speciality and qualified why not!? My ICU manager always said it’s a lot easier to teach a new grad than to try and get a seasoned nurse to change their ways. Go for what you want ! Good luck.

I’m a cna and about to finish my first semester of nursing school. Have you always been a full time night CNA? If so, how do you manage your time with studying and working? I’ve been working every other weekend because it’s so much work... especially since I’m in a 2 year program.
Not during nursing school. I was a full time nanny for my first 3 quarters and loved it. Not thinking I’m going to last full time after my first two weekends! School needs to come first!

I had my capstone on a med-surg unit that had a manager who was super adamant about starting on med-surg. Long story short I got a job in an ICU at a different hospital and the manager proceeded to call my school and claim that I was unprofessional/that I acted like med-surg was below me. I know you don’t know me but this was not true at all and when I reached out to my preceptor she said she thought I had done a great job. Anyway just watch out for that because it’s really messed with my head and got me into a ton of trouble at school.
I’m truly not worried at all! I play along every time someone brings it up and I would never think of any unit or treat any unit as if they were below me!

Yes you can! I’m 5’3 and 121 pounds and I’m not gonna lie I’m an animal when it comes to heavy weight stuff. There’s sooooo many techniques they teach you too just like Jade said!😊

I would definitely try getting a job in a hospital if you can however some prefer you have experience first which can be hard to find outside of a nursing home environment but I encourage you to try!!

I'm a junior in high school and I'm going to college for nursing and I know I still have time to get everything situated with college but I want to be prepared but anyway I was wondering how do you know which prereqs to take for each nursing school? like if I'm not applying to nursing school until after at least 2 years of prereqs how will I know which ones to take? I hope you understand my question and could help me
Depending on what school you are applying to, they should have a curriculum or course guide that tells you what classes are needed before applying to the nursing program. You could also try emailing the advisors at the school. You may need some sciences like chemistry, microbiology, general biology, statistics, anatomy and physiology 1&2, intro to sociology, etc.
It would be best to either research the school’s website or email them. Hope this helped!

hey I didn’t take science in high school and now I wanna major in nursing in bachelor in usa but they don’t accept students with no science background, can you please let me know if I can take a short course or anything so that k can major in it ? 🥺🥺😭😭
Looks like your best bet is going to a community college and getting your ADN, then going into an RN->BSN program. If you still want your bachelors degree from an university, you can choose a different major like biology to take the nursing pre reqs, then apply to an ABSN program.

It’s a senior capstone which is where we basically intern at a hospital we apply and get accepted into to work along side a nurse for x amount of weeks in our last quarter before graduation!
