  • "The Wild Robot," the latest from DreamWorks Animation, is breathtakingly beautiful and tells a sweet story of unexpected parenthood. But we were mixed about some of the writing and how the film ultimately resolves its dilemmas. Still, it's great choice for the whole family. Lupita Nyong'o provides the voice of a robot who becomes an unlikely mother to a newborn gosling. Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor and Catherine O'Hara are among the all-star voice cast. Chris Sanders wrote and directed the film, based on the Peter Brown book. In theaters Sept. 27.

Dreamworks may not have the history and longevity of Disney and the consistency of hits that Pixar once had; but when they have a hit, they have a *HIT*

Really liked this one! Very sweet and lovely. The humor is surprisingly dark

The premise of this movie sounds fascinating and, like Alonso mentioned, the visuals look gorgeous. Your praise and criticisms seem fair, but this is one I'd like to see sooner or later.

Wow, first semi negative reviews, and you both agreed. So far, I haven’t heard anything but glowing praise.
Guess I will see if I agree with which side. After the last trailer, the movie looked promising…

I saw this movie last night and was so entertained and endeared by everything about it with teary eyes. The animation, Lupita's acting and the screenplay are standouts for me. I love the messages conveyed in the movie. I can't recommend this highly enough for families!

I feel like spelling the plot out is almost necessary for kids movies these days. Just look at the target audience: They can barely focus on a 10 minute video these days let alone a 2 hour film. There’s a reason why kids don’t gravitate to movies anymore like we used to: they just can’t sit down and focus that long without another device keeping them company.

I think that’s far too cynical a view. Children’s films don’t need to be dumbed down, and children deserve high quality stories that don’t pander to how adults see them, but speak to the inner child we all have. I was smart as a child and didn’t appreciate being cynically spoken down to

I always respect your honest takes on films, and yeah, I don't like it when films "tell" instead of "showing," either. I cannot wait for this, though. As an audience viewer since I'm not a critic obviously, it looks like a great message for kids and the animation of course looks stunning; I love character arcs, too. I can't wait to see what the academy thinks of it. (As a person with autism who often feels like I'm from another planet, lol, I think that I'll like this a whole lot). If it's dark like you're saying, that can appeal to some mature kids, similar to how Inside Out has some deep concepts. Eve Bunting was a children's author that I really respect as she made difficult concepts readable for kids.

You guys contradict pretty much every other reviewer who has reviewed this movie. I've heard nothing but absolute raves. I find myself disagreeing with your assessments quite a lot. Sad to say but I think we might need to break up over this one.

Oh dear, the second time nearly in a row we hear that sentence: until I didn't. It works a bit like seeing the fox after he removed his sheep's camouflage, isn't it? You try to preserve the good moments from the time before that, but it is a fox now, and you have a hard time to unsee that.

I think this film would have been better if the studio had spent $100 million more on it and had gotten Francis Ford Coppola to direct.

Why would they spend 100millions more? It looks already gorgeous! Coppola to film it? Whatttt! This film, for your information, already has a score of 99% on rottentomatoes with more than 70 reviews!

    The book is better
Why did they have to shuffle around the story beats
Now the character progression and motivation is so weak
Children's stories is not high art, just follow the story structure
But I guess the screen writer needs to earn his pay
Shame it went from good to just OK
