    Love your channel Dan. Wanted to send you a couple bucks for whatever but maybe to help towards treatment. 38yr old skater from Maine living in Tahoe for 12 yrs. Btw, your ability to self reflect and your self awareness is really amazing, particularly fighting through anxiety disorder. I've been there A LOT myself, it's not easy to freak out and then reset and come out clearer and stronger. Love ya dude 👊🏼👊🏼

    I had lyme as a kid, it eventually evolved into ME/CFS. i'm 35 now and i'm mostly home and bed bound. I used to be extremely active but now i spend most most my days just resting. There are days where even chewing food takes too much energy to do. My heart goes out to you and wish you the best going forward.

    I had Lyme when I was in my early 20's before there were a lot of studies, and doctors didn't have an understanding on how to treat it. It ruined 8 years of my life, the panic attacks, my nervous system was destroyed, spams, fevers.I felt like I was crazy and dying. I'm in my early 40's now, and that period of my life will forever haunt me. I learned a real lot though, and I can tell you that it will get better. Today we have studies, and doctors who have a deeper understanding. All the best Dan. I won't give you unsolicited health advice, though I do have some tips if you ever were seeking some from someone who has experience. The best tip though is to advocate for yourself, and if you are not getting anywhere move on as fast as you can. All the best man

    I've been watching pretty much since the beginning, and you changed my whole attitude to skating, and helped me learn to enjoy it a lot more than i have, (which in turn motivated me to skate more often ) which I am incredibly thankful for!
    The health thing really sucks, and I can't even begin to imagine how much. But I am just super excited to see you rolling around again, even if not as often or intense as before! And I am sure that whatever the case, you'll still be able to enjoy doing it! (Though i hope and wish that the health stuff is not going to be as serious as it may)

    Had an idea it was Lyme. I’m in Pa. I got it last summer. Never saw the tick. Had a rash, but not the bulls eye.
    Went to the ER and they misdiagnosed it, gave me the wrong antibiotics. Went to the Dr. he found it was Lyme. Took doxycycline. That worked a lot better.
    I still get some of the brain fog. Drinking electrolytes seems to help. I ride 25 miles or more on my bike almost every day, so eventually you can still push yourself hard.
    Lyme was horrible the first month. Didn’t eat, fever, way worse than Covid.

    This video was very emotional for me. I was a pro skater in my late teens/early twenties (early 2000s), but I experienced a series of debilitating health issues that ended my skating career forever. I've now found a new path in life that fills my heart with utter joy, but losing my ability to skate wreaked havoc on my life and mental health throughout my 20s. I recently started watching your channel as a way to connect with the skating community again, and now to hear you're going through something even vaguely similar really hits close to home. I wish you all the best and I thank you so much for talking about mental health in skateboarding.

    Sorry to hear, Dan. Be aware, that testing for Lyme is extremely controversial tho. I know it's great to have something on paper, but yea, it might actually be long covid or ME/cfs, which is what I've had for the last 22 years. I'm one of those you talked about who completely had their lives ruined by it.. only got worse and worse since then for me. Hope you'll have more luck and figure out how to deal with it or even improve.

      @MichaelKeithton 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You've had long covid for 22 years? Please explain how that is possible when it was only a worldwide discovery about 4 1/2 years ago.

    • @alittlezZzen
      @alittlezZzen 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MichaelKeithton There's a thing called ME/cfs / chronic fatigue syndrome / post viral fatigue syndrome / whatever you want to call it. You can get that from several viral infections like Mono, which is caused by the Epstein Barr virus as one example. They made this absolute bitch move calling it long Covid / post Covid for the first 6 months after you first got it and only after diagnose you with ME/cfs... As you can't test for any of those conditions, many doctors won't take you serious and try telling you it's all in your head, so many end up getting a Lyme diagnosis instead, as tests for that have an extremely low accuracy rate, but people just seem to take that over not having any positive testing at all, even if it's a false positive

    • @alittlezZzen

    So sorry to hear, but I guess it's good to finally know what you have. I actually thought Lime disease was quite possible, I live in Idaho, which we (jokingly) refer to as "the tick fever state" Also I have recently been watching a lot of Ren videos. Not sure if you're familiar with him, but he went through about 10 years of trying to figure out what was ailing him, and finally realized it was Lime. His story is crazy, basically bed ridden for years, doctors told him it was all in his head. Eventually experienced complete psychosis. You've been a big inspiration for me, just watching your videos; I've seen the course your life has taken, through youtube, over the past couple of years and its been this linear progression which is so positive to witness. Now this health situation you've been dealing with has the quality of almost cosmic comedy, like fate has taken the string of your life and plucked it, just to see how the vibrations will play out. It certainly doesn't seem fair. But hopefully the same perseverance and temerity you've used to fight through any hardships you've already faced will serve you here. Skate when you can, rest when you have to, and make videos as long as it makes sense for you. And thanks for your work. Hope you beat this.

    You should look up Ren, he is a UK musician that had it, they misdiagnosed him for years which lead to a lot of bad things. He talks alot about it and has tried really hard to bring more knowledge to the world about the disease and treatments, ect.

    Good luck man. For what it's worth, I had long "vid" for a while, and was tested for lymes (negative). I had pretty much the same symptoms. Racing heart, anxiety, fatigue, derealization, auditory hallucinations, etc. I was basically stuck in fight or flight 24/7. Having a previous panic disorder or health anxiety is definitely a factor in all of it. Part of recovering is learning to trust that your body will be okay. Fear of the disease itself kept the symptoms going on longer for me. The symptom/anxiety feedback loop. Hopefully this is somewhat helpful. This just sounds so much like what I went through and all of the "mystery illnesses" I've gone through. The loop of anxiety, getting weird feelings in my heart, getting more anxious because those feelings, having my heart feel worse because I'm even more anxious, etc. Not saying this is for sure what's going on with you. Just something to be aware of. Most of all, even if things take a turn for the worse, don't lose hope. There were many times I thought I was going to ☠ or that I would never get better. Best of luck.

    lyme sucks man, I'm sorry to hear. on the antibiotics.. you should only take antibiotics for bacterial infections. antibiotics destroy the gut biome and that's why you are having stomach issues following taking it. try adding kombucha or yoghurt AFTER you finish the full cycle of taking them if you plan on taking it again. use caution and ask your doctor if it is even needed because from what you described it does not sound like it.

    Yo! I was watching one of your videos talking about being able to finally get back on your board and thought, man that kinda sounds like what REN was/ is going through… he went years without a proper diagnosis. I thought I wasn’t qualified enough to give any advice on health care. I know that it’s probably a relief finally having an answer. I broke a vertebra and it went misdiagnosed for a couple years. I refractured it over and over, either by work or physical therapy and chiropractor “adjusting” me. The surgeon said that the one vertebra could be spun freely around my spinal cord. When I finally had an X-ray and got the “hey, so it turns out there was something wrong with your back after all “ from the same military doctor that misdiagnosed me over and over.. I felt relieved after the surgeon told my wife and I that I shouldn’t have been able to walk in for that first surgery, and I had the freshly carved up back I wanted to choke that military doctor and show everyone I knew that I wasn’t just faking or something. I sent a picture of my back with a drain tube coming out of it and the wounds where they took out a rib for the donor bone and the one going down my spine where they put the bone and titanium rod and screws to my supervisor. Hospital gown wide open…my whole ars in view. I felt vindicated I guess. Like finally I had answers and that I wasn’t making it all up in my head somehow. Sadly it still ended up costing me my career. I was told the surgery would make it so I could reach my 20 year mark at the least. My only goal was to reach retirement from active duty(20+ years). I was medically retired at 10 years to the day. I’ve been in constant pain for over a decade now… a few surgeries and a truckload full of medications and lots of time spent praying I could will myself to fall asleep so I could sleep through the pain on rougher days. I hope you have a much better go at it. I wish you nothing but the absolute best.

I encourage everyone to take a look and PRACTICE the recommended exercises. And please know that yes, some exercises you might feel an immediate change for the better, for most people nervous system regulation takes a long time. It is a lifelong practice, not a quick fix.
      Sukie Baxter and Irene Lyon are two Yters I like. Red light therapy has been extremely helpful for me. Eye and tongue exercises have also been VERY helpful in my case. Somatic Experiencing with Peter Levine is another good resource.
      Good luck. Hang in there, it can been two steps forward and one step backwards sometimes… healing and nervous system regulation aren’t always a linear process. Good luck and take care…

      @@johan9388 Unfortunately it isn’t “one-size fits all,” in other words: what works for one person doesn’t ALWAYS work for the next person… that being said, there are MANY exercises and approaches which can and DO help. Search here on YT and experiment. Suki Baxter and Irene Lyon both have free and subscription programs that have helped me. Meditation, chanting even singing can help stimulate the vagus nerve and create a greater sense of wellbeing.
      I have found redlight therapy to be VERY VERY helpful.
      The eye and tongue exercises from Pain Free You here on YT have also been helpful for me.
      Angela Mccloud has a nice series of short videos on nervous system support here: th-cam.com/play/PLtbMmNmD6TJKZIjJpHTwIzF1poqz5VLy_.html&si=ssKbjWR0l_Rv9Jrf
      This type of healing isn’t always linear, meaning sometimes it’s two steps forward and one step backwards… you may feel some improvement and then a sudden change for the worse… hang in there, it’s worth approaching your health and wellbeing as a life long practice, rather “than one and done.” You don’t expect breakfast to nourish you for the whole day or for the rest of your life! It’s like eating and sleeping, there is a natural rhythm and learning to listen to and act on this inner intelligence is a large part of the process.
      Good luck one and all, and take care of yourselves… no one can no better what you need than you, so listen to yourself and give yourself the care you need. 🙌🏻🙏🏼

Other days I can't hardly make it to the bathroom in time. Back in late January, 3 doctors gave me 6 to 12 months to live. I've done chemo and I would never wish that on anyone. Cancer spread during chemo. Now I just live day to day. Enjoy the good days and deal with the bad. I smoke weed for depression and that helps alot.
