  • We are assembling our beads to use in a 16-Cord (Tama or Bobbin) made using the Japanese Braiding Technique of Kumihimo. Using a Bead Spinner and Bead Spinner Trays we load our project in two segments (we do part of this out of order FYI). The bulk of this video demonstrates loading beads after we have our Focal Bead loaded and we are finishing up our entire braid .

Once you learn the basics (there is a lot of set up as you can see), but the reward is how unique and beautiful this braid ends up being. As with our videos we are using the TH-cam Channel and our Pattern Instructions to help you learn on your own or add a Zoom Class for 30 minutes to learn exactly what to do.

Oh I am making a 16 strand continuous beaded braid so size 11/0 and yes lots of beads. If you want to try this style begin by making a Edo Yatsu or Kaku Yatsu (square braid is amazing).

Hello: oh goodness. For these necklaces I am using a Micro-cord. Size 18 is second thickest, 400 is biggest. So for normal Kumihimo size 18 is perfect. On a bead spinner it might be a bit difficult, try using Tech 135 instead. That size is good with an 8 strand Kongo Gumi (but i suggest using an inner core to bulk up that middle). I will be filming a video to compare a mechanical wooden to an electronic bead spinner. These take a lot of beads and usually size 11/0 is best for a spinner but size 8/0 works. There are so many little things I’ve learned. Hopefully i didn’t confuse you.

What size cord are you using? I do my Kumihimo with 18 S Lon. I’ve never tried the Beas spinner.
