Very honest review covering most all day and night images. Great if you are without your pano gear for you get the look in one click! Love the focus stacking info.
Albert, that was a great review, and beautiful pictures to show how to use it! I currently use the Sony 12-24 f2.8 GM, 16-35 f2.8 GM II, and the 14mm f1.4 GM. I believe you have the same wide-angle lineup as well. I can't see the benefit of getting this 10mm with my current wide-angle lineup. The vignetting and corner distortion are hard to ignore, but you make a good point about using this lens as an easy, wide panorama lens, which could solve the corner issues. Thanks again for the great review!
Thanks Albert for this video, answering a lot of questions and helping for a decision. I was really curious to see the 1st videos of this lense as I like wide angle photography very much. It is now definitely on my buying list.
Great video Albert, v interesting lens. Your images are superb. Can I ask, not about the Laowa, but your books. Will they be printed in English at some point?
Thank you! I will release a new coffee table book this year in English. Regarding practical books: my dutch book is already a bit older now. I will probably make a new version in English!
Thanks for the detailed review. I was pleased to see that the A7RV focus bracketing feature was compatible with this lens. What are the bracketing settings do you choose for shots like this?
The lens is interesting, I would ask the question . The lens is auto focus on Sony and Nikon z mounts only …. However the same 10mm lens is-going to be released later with I think 15 lenses not the 5 lenses in the lens you reviewed. Apart from there being no auto focus . And as we don’t know the price yet what would the 15 pieces of glass in the lenses do to improve over the one you just tested. I was interested in the 7artisan 9 mm rector-liner lens . This the laowa lens came out . Is there is a difference there must be what is that difference? I hope you answer
Yes the manual focus one will be slightly different. I can't say much about the 7artisans. I haven't tried it. But it's 5.6 which is of course entirely different than 2.8. Laowa also already has a 9mm f/5.6
Thanks Albert! Very interesting lens! Always enjoyed my Laowa 10-18 but the lack of communication between the lens and camera made me decide to get rid of that lens.
Thank you very much Albert for your excellent video. Not long ago I bought the Laowa 9mm f5.6, mainly for indoor ceilings. This 10mm f2.8 could be a better option due to its wider aperture. Do you know if it is compatible with the use of tripod rings by its diameter?
Thank you very much for this interesting video. I have a quick question: can I use this lens successfully with a D850? I know there is an adapter for doing it the other way round, but not sure whether I can use a mirrorless camera lens on a DSLR. There doesn't seem to be an alternative for such extreme wide angle. Thank you.
at 9:00, pretty sure you're seeing diffraction from shooting at f14 on a camera with quite small pixels (Sony A7RV). I don't think there is any need to shoot at f14, just shoot at f8 and pick a hyperfocal distance...sorry to nit pick. Enjoyed the review even if this lens is out of my price range.
Thanks for your video and sharing. I’m a music/concert photographer in big venues do you think this lens could work for this kind of photography? Thanks!
May I ask please how good are the stars in the middle top of the frame compared to the corners. If I was to do a 2 or 3 image landscape panorama with say 50% overlap to only mainly use the centre of the image, would I get significant improvement? Would you be able to put a couple of samples (with stars) for people to download to check out the stars on their screen please?
Albert, how is the weather sealing on this lens? I see there is a gasket at the mount, but is the rest of the lens also sealed? Would you trust it in the rain? You clearly already had it out in cold and snowy situations...
@@AlbertDrosPhotography OK, laat me de vraag dan anders stellen. Wat vind je van de Viltrox 16mm? En is het de beste keus voor een lens van (ongeveer) die brandpuntsafstand?
In your night sky images, it looks like there is more distortion on the left part of the image than the right. If you agree, might this specific lens have a bit of a manufacturing defect?
I finally received the lens for my Z 8 yesterday. Only did a quick test indoors and I am somewhat disappointed in the sharpness. At F2.8 it is not that sharp even in the center. At f4 the 9mm f5.6 LAOWA is sharper. the focus stacking images were not very sharp compared to single image. I wonder if I have a bad copy or is this lens just not as good as touted?
@@AlbertDrosPhotography I am exchanging it for another copy. It seems to be dud copy. The focus stacking was even more blurry. I own several laowa lens and this is one I have been waiting for and it is a HUGE disappointment so far!
@@combatwombat71 maybe they don't want to break the rules, like some other do. The RF Mount is protected by Canon and the data are encrypted. Its a time intense task and not everybody want to go this way. Nobody gets all data out. I would never buy into a closed mount system.
@@AlbertDrosPhotography so do you think it's safe for seascape photography which has many waves in the ocean? because I'm thinking about starting seascape photography with Z Mount but with an affordable lens and I'm curious about this lens 🙏
I would be more worried about salt water protection on your camera. No camera is safe for that. You just have to be careful around the sea. No camera will survive a wave that comes over it.
You will love this lens for Astro, I used the Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 on a Sony A7s and did panos in Aug where the top was up over head and extra above to crop.
I didn't even pay attention to the review as these are some of the best photos I have ever seen!
haha thank you so much!
Your shots are incredible! Nice work!

Thank you so much! Appreciate it!
Great review Albert!
Thanks Ian! Enjoyed watching your Sigma review!!
Albert, you are an inspiration for my photography.
thanks Francesco!
I already ordered one, I was praying that you wouldn't say its not a good lens and dont buy it. 😂 I am glad to hear its good, cant wait to use it.
Wonderful video and of course the photos are spectacular. Very tempted by this lens for travel which for me usually includes hiking mountains!
awesome!
Thanks for the review and for sharing your latest trip Albert. Your photos always inspire me to want to be a better photographer. :o)
Thank you so much! And nice to hear about the inspiration! :D
Goeie platen weer Albert! En mooi en duidelijke video.

Unfortunately I didn't have time for that but I will try to do more in the future:)
Amazing images that really make use of the wide field of view!

Great review Albert.

Thanks for ne Nice review! And damn... Those pictures are stunning. I was in Iceland in march 2022.
Thank you! Iceland always delivers. Well, mostly :D!
Great review, Albert😍😍thanks a lot for so many useful pieces of info🙋♀️
you're welcome!
Very dedicated review. Thank you Albert!
How is the image quality compared to the Laowa 12mm f/2.8 zero-D, witch I particularly like to shoot up up close.. (mushrooms in the Forrest) ??
good question. I actually didn't test it against this lens. Will have to do this soon.
Fantastic review, those images are incredible. Cheers!
Thank you!
Great review , 😊 amazing photos
thank you!
thank you sir.
exceptional review
great photos can see the appeal and potential fun of using 10mm
Very cool, my man
Thank for a great review with stunning picture sample as always. They should come out sooner i already bough 9mm 5.6
I think Yours is actually better (just use it at f8.5 also) probably.

Thanks for the very interesting review. Did you perhaps test it with square filters, or screwin ND Filtes, which should be possible.
square won't be possible. Too much vignetting. Screw in ND filter is possible, but it needs to been an extremely thin one.
Zou je deze lens meenemen in combinatie met een A7 om landschappen en kusten in de Algarve vast te leggen.

is there an autofocus version for Sony APS-C cameras?
Do you think the 14 blades make it worth giving up the auto focus?
thank you
Hi Albert, i see they have a manual focus version of the lens too with 14 aperture blades. Does that improve or change the image quality in any way ?
When you set the lens into infinite is all in focus for night shots like the 12mm?
Great review. Nice work
If I use a single step-up ring 77mm to 82mm and use 82mm filter instead of 77mm, would it help lessen the vignetting?
Thanks for your video and sharing. I’m a music/concert photographer in big venues do you think this lens could work for this kind of photography? Thanks!
yes why not :) It's perfect for that kind of low light cases
A me piace tantissimo. Non so se sarei in grado di utilizzarlo seriamente, ma mi attira veramente tanto. Mi piace anche la tonalità azzurrina😂
Thanks for yor review. How does this compare with their 9mm lens? Can you do focus stacking on the A7R5 with a manual lens?
The Laowa 10mm f/2.8 is AF for Sony mount :) The first one by Laowa.
Should i go for the manual focus lens to get the 14blades? I dont know if i need the autofocus
Really up to you! I think they are both fine :D

No issues with that. Got soaking wet a few times.
@@AlbertDrosPhotography That's fantastic to hear! Thanks for the info! 🙏
You can use filters on this lens apparently just use a larger filter and a step up ring , from what I've seen this mitigates any extra vignetting
Prima video, Albert!

Too bad that the RF version doesn't have AF and won't transmit EXIF data.
great review.. but the spec says 420 g.. you say 450 :D
Too much vignetting for me … will keep my sony 14 1.8 - this 10mm would only be a fun lens for some shots on a trip

Regrettably the Canon RF version is manual focus only - come on Canon - let others in the sandbox!
Still only available to reviewers. In the computer world I believe imaginary software was called vaporware.
Deine Vorstellung wäre für mich leider keine Kaufempfehlung wert.😅
WOW, great shots and a nice lens. do enjoy the way how you present. It is pretty practical from landscape photography perspetive.
