There was a game that got on the "top rated" section called "nyctophobia" (fear of the dark), it was a survival game where you had to find batteries to replenish your flashlight while avoiding a few different monsters. It died out like 2 weeks later and the developer stopped updating the game last time I checked

I sorta disagree and agree with this. I think some levels are enhanced by it, such as the ocean one (bad at names so yea), but for most of them, levels dont really need tons of monsters. maybe a unique one once in a while to enhance things for specific phobias (i view the backrooms as a manifestation of fears that are semi-intrinsic to humans, such as endless oceans we cant see the bottom of, or dark rooms that no matter what you do, you can't ever see all of it.). if you can capitalize on that fear, then yea, having a payoff for it once in a while is nice. but thats just my opinion, and you are entitled to yours

It was first person, and the graphics looked really good. I only have two screenshots of the game, and I don't remember its name for the life of me. I believe you start off by exploring an alleyway, where you come across a bloodied headless corpse. You walked a bit further down the alley to find a Japanese doll sitting on some steps in front of an ajar door. I don’t know what happened after because I chickened out and never got any further. This Roblox horror game iceberg reminded me of this game (unfortunately I don’t believe it was on it), and was hoping if someone else had any idea what this game was.

Unironically Realm of the Nine Portals is one of if not the coolest roblox game I have ever played. Each realm felt like a completely new adventure with well made and gorgeous maps, tense and oppressive atmosphere, and an unknown threat always lurking just above your shoulders.

to add to viennas cafe, there was an older version made in 2011 by vienna456 with a bigger build (which i presume had free models), which had several buildings as the restaurant i believe. and either in the basement or in the rooftop a similar chamber like in the 2015 remake - (but with worse free models) was there. i think the game is mostly broken last i played, because there was literally no floor so you couldn't walk anywhere and the house models are kinda broken. oh yeah also the 2015 remake was popularized by albert/flamingo around 2018 i believe and it led to the game being popularized, then people exploiting the game which was one of the reasons why it was deleted, the other reason being that well - it was gory. i only know this because i often played the game(s) and saw them get exploited; it wasn't anything really awful though - just people playing music and using admin commands and adding to the build for weird fun in a horror game.

Once visited a flash animation would play of smiley faces turning white then black while saying "You are an idiot hahahah" over and over again. Once you try to close the tab however it will open yet another tab and slowly damages (Kind of) your computer.
There was also a downloadable computer virus that would do the same thing. It caused no real harm and didn’t steal/destroy any data, but closing the window would duplicate it and the only way to undo it was to restart your computer.

Easily one of the best games on roblox. If not for the graphics I would think I'm playing a game from steam, love how the game steadily unfolds as the player learns more about the bigger picture of what's really going on, with the true ending being the best possible route for the game to go and finish on.

Ayy, so many nostalgic games mentioned in this list. Vampire hunters was my go to back in the day. Only game I had almost all of the gamepasses for. Bloodfest is also really great, absolutely recommend checking it out if yall haven't already.
Not a lot of horror games have a sense of humor, at least intentionally. Manor.exe seems really fun and the minefield in the bathroom trick is always hilarious
Im glad doors exists because honestly a lot of Roblox "horror" games like piggy and others like it get wayyyyy too much attention than they really deserve, I hope doors can set the bar for Roblox horror games and in the future inspire more developers to make something unique.

Here to correct you on the Darkness entry. Yes, Darkness 1 is entirely broken. However a restoration of Darkness 2 has existed for some time now that fully functions just as intended.
two other horror games i used to like that aren’t on this iceberg are called phobias and horror portals, but i absolutely love specter edit: i can’t remember if these were in part 1 of the iceberg or not but sacrifice sanctuary and the trials are amazing too (if they count as horror games)
I remember playing apeirophobia for the first time (I go into all horror games blind btw) with a lot of knowledge from the backrooms wiki, so when I got to level ! I expected a couple skin stealers or something behind you but nah there’s a titan smiler that crawls through the walls spider style. Combine that with the feeling it’s always right behind you and the random obstacles, I pretty much had a heart attack.
My absolute favorite horror games on Roblox were the Darkness 1 and 2 games by Loleris. Just could not get enough of them, I remember always getting on Roblox just to play those games, it’s a shame that all these new updates broke the scrips. I wish the creator would come back to fix it, doesn’t even have to remake it or anything, just update the scrips so these classics are playable again. I also played Stop it Slender, which was very good, and is still functional. :)

I remember there being previous versions of the Distilled game by Tyridge77. One version (I think) had you start in a bedroom in a dungeon-like area with the Servant Grunt monster from Amnesia being the only enemy there, and the game "ended" when you reached a door that you couldn't open. Do take this with a grain of salt, as this is likely bordering on 10 years ago, so I'm probably mistaking it for another game. Who knows.

Despite what rveryone says the Backrooms didn't become bad because of monsters, the issue is people giving it a defined structure with things like labeled levels, identifiable paths, named entities, groups of interests, history, and so on.
There was an old horror game I played but I can’t find it, it took place in a hotel at night and you try to get a room, the worker tries to tell you there is no rooms left, but after you pressure him enough, he gives you the only room left, which of course, is cursed. Everyone who goes to the room dies or something, the gameplay is very reminiscent of Bloody Mary; Awake and Trapped. The most memorable part of it are 1. Falling down the stairs into the basement, don’t ask me how I remember such a mundane part 2. Utilizing bottles of… something… to burn down the room

I remember a survive the killer-esque game that emphasized fighting back. It’s a pretty recent and decently well-known game, but I can’t find it for the life of me. The game literally tells you it isn’t about hiding and surviving; it’s about killing the killer. There were several different killer types with different abilities, with the default one being some sort of electric man. If someone could tell me the name of the game, that would be great!

The thing is that the original backrooms 4chan post implied creatures. IMPLIED, they weren't supposed to be cataloged like scp garbage or shown off. Also, there aren't supposed to be levels. It was supposed to be a singular infinite area with no escape for you to wander until you succumb.

Ayy, so many nostalgic games mentioned in this list. Vampire hunters was my go to back in the day. Only game I had almost all of the gamepasses for.
Bloodfest is also really great, absolutely recommend checking it out if yall haven't already.
I remember in the “you look happy” game that it used to have several suicide endings, but since has been changed to the guy with a mask on a couch.
Not a lot of horror games have a sense of humor, at least intentionally. Manor.exe seems really fun and the minefield in the bathroom trick is always hilarious

Im glad doors exists because honestly a lot of Roblox "horror" games like piggy and others like it get wayyyyy too much attention than they really deserve, I hope doors can set the bar for Roblox horror games and in the future inspire more developers to make something unique.

When I was a kid I played the Fluttershy game in 2014 or 15 when I was a kid I was into Creepypastas I use to play Darkness 1 and 2 as a kid as well and Murder etc I wish it was back again it has been amazing. Even 7 days I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT IT me and my nephew we would play we actually would get scared hard
I remember so many of these games. Darkness was so popular back in the day. Minus decendance is very atmospheric and very good. It's a shame the sequel lost the horror element.

Here to correct you on the Darkness entry. Yes, Darkness 1 is entirely broken. However a restoration of Darkness 2 has existed for some time now that fully functions just as intended.

edit: i can’t remember if these were in part 1 of the iceberg or not but sacrifice sanctuary and the trials are amazing too (if they count as horror games)
I remember playing apeirophobia for the first time (I go into all horror games blind btw) with a lot of knowledge from the backrooms wiki, so when I got to level ! I expected a couple skin stealers or something behind you but nah there’s a titan smiler that crawls through the walls spider style. Combine that with the feeling it’s always right behind you and the random obstacles, I pretty much had a heart attack.
My absolute favorite horror games on Roblox were the Darkness 1 and 2 games by Loleris. Just could not get enough of them, I remember always getting on Roblox just to play those games, it’s a shame that all these new updates broke the scrips. I wish the creator would come back to fix it, doesn’t even have to remake it or anything, just update the scrips so these classics are playable again. I also played Stop it Slender, which was very good, and is still functional. :)

I remember there being previous versions of the Distilled game by Tyridge77. One version (I think) had you start in a bedroom in a dungeon-like area with the Servant Grunt monster from Amnesia being the only enemy there, and the game "ended" when you reached a door that you couldn't open.
Do take this with a grain of salt, as this is likely bordering on 10 years ago, so I'm probably mistaking it for another game. Who knows.

There was an old horror game I played but I can’t find it, it took place in a hotel at night and you try to get a room, the worker tries to tell you there is no rooms left, but after you pressure him enough, he gives you the only room left, which of course, is cursed. Everyone who goes to the room dies or something, the gameplay is very reminiscent of Bloody Mary; Awake and Trapped. The most memorable part of it are
1. Falling down the stairs into the basement, don’t ask me how I remember such a mundane part
2. Utilizing bottles of… something… to burn down the room

There's a game missing from this iceberg and it's been missing since 2017-2018 era, called "HTAED" it would feature one of the old Roblox houses morphing and distorting as weird muffling human noises would play. It is now replaced with the default testing place. Please tell me can anyone remember?

I remember a survive the killer-esque game that emphasized fighting back. It’s a pretty recent and decently well-known game, but I can’t find it for the life of me. The game literally tells you it isn’t about hiding and surviving; it’s about killing the killer. There were several different killer types with different abilities, with the default one being some sort of electric man. If someone could tell me the name of the game, that would be great!

The thing is that the original backrooms 4chan post implied creatures. IMPLIED, they weren't supposed to be cataloged like scp garbage or shown off. Also, there aren't supposed to be levels. It was supposed to be a singular infinite area with no escape for you to wander until you succumb.
Vampire hunters 2 was literally one of the best games from my childhood. I’m almost 14 and I was like 8-9 at the time I played, around 2016- 2017, in that time the game was actually on mobile, but I think it got moved to only pc, and then got shut down :(
