The breed of horse doesn't matter as much as the horse themselves, you can have an amazing conformation of a Warmblood but it won't do a single thing asked of and may have a terrible jump.

I know Gabby wants to go up another level, but finding a Warmblood under 20k that is kid proof is almost an impossible mission. I know Gabby is growing as a rider, but a Warmblood is top notch and expensive as heck. I suggest a thoroughbred that is proven to be a sound jumper that Gabby can work with. They are amazing horses if trained correctly and they can go as far as the Olympics! And sooooo much cheaper than a Warmblood. They also got so much personality and I think Gabby would do well on one. ♥️

I agree! But the issue with that is the one ottb gabbie tried was ancient (like 20 something) and she couldn't control him on the flat, let alone over jumps. I think an appendix or a apha like tex would do her good. Help her learn how to not shut down when the horse starts going faster than old man storm (bless his heart) and then she could look at buying something at a higher level after she gets comfortable with speed!

Another thing about warmbloods is they do not mature until 10-12. I wouldn’t want to see her lose confidence like I did. Warmbloods are also very sensitive to ride. I suggest and Irish sport horse better they have great brains, they are not as sensitive, and mature way faster. She needs a horse that knows the levels to help her get up there. They can also still jump the moon. ( I just bought another warmblood and actually wished I stuck the the Irish)

That's why I dont really think that would be a good breed for gabby, I dont think shes a rough rider per say but she has a certain handling style that just wouldnt work with an ottb. Like how she handled storm not wanting to go through the obstacle course when they went camping😬 and how she handles fin when he acts up and her trainer isnt there. Definitely wouldnt work on an ottb! A steadier mind like a warmblood would be great, if they wernt so darn expensive!

Just a heads up for Gabby- Parlanti boots are AMAZING, But I will never buy them again. I bought a pair and because the leather is so soft and supple, the calf wore holes in 4 months. I was only riding 2 horses 4 times a week. I have a pair now that I use strictly for showing, but they're showing lots of wear after only this past years summer circuit. Just something to keep in mind as they are very pricey boots considering their life span:)

I don’t think breed matters as long as they are capable of everything gabby wants and that they fit well together. However, if you are thinking of warmbloods I would recommend an Oldenburg because they are very athletic and are characteristically very responsive and talented horses when it comes to activities like jumping and dressage. I feel like this is the type of horse that gabby would most likely be looking for because they are more forward moving, are not typically lazy, and not bulky like some warmbloods can be which is a pro when it comes to jumping. (Of course all of the things I’ve described are based off of breeding and may not be definite characteristics of all Oldenburgs) Good luck in your search!!

I've always been more of a thoroughbred person, and if you are looking for a good jumper they are the way to go, but if you can find a warmblood with good conformation they make great hunters. they tend to be very expensive and are a pain in the butt to fit for a saddle and have some of the worst cases of navicular issues I have ever seen. they can also be very hot, but so can thoroughbreds

As far as breed of horse, you can get a warmblood if you like. I know lots of people love warmbloods, so do I! But I do need to praise Thoroughbred's, and trained in jumping OTTB's (Off The Track Thoroughbred). Thoroughbred's can also do just as much as Warmbloods depending on the Thoroughbred. For instance a OTTB at my barn jumped 4'6 when he was younger, and there is a Warmblood at my barn who could do 4'6 as well. But then there are some Thoroughbred's who max out at 3'6, and Warmbloods who go to 5' or higher, and then Visa Versa. I don't think the breed matters a lot, I think it really depends on the personality, skill, scope, whoa or kick ride. I don't think breed matters a whole lot, but it does matter if the horse is gaited, most gaited horses can't go very high, and they are not meant for jumping. Hence why they have special gaits. Also draft mixes, very few draft mixes can go very high, and they are more likely to be a very slow/kick ride. I have an OTTB and he is amazing. He can only do 4', but again it depends on the Thoroughbred, as well as it depends on the Warmblood. If you do decide on a Warmblood, I would recommend a Dutch Warmblood, they are usually a more forward horse. A Swedish warmblood. Or a Hanoverian, Hanoverians are very good Jumpers. One more thing it depends on if Gabby is doing Hunter's or Jumpers is a huge factor. My OTTB is a full jumper, because he is a speedster, and doesn't have the hunter look. (He looks like a spider monkey when he jumps). So if she wants to continue Hunter's then look for a more slower horse, and hunter look to it (Tucks his legs when he jumps, jumps low with his head). If she wants to do Jumpers, then look for a more whoah ride/forward horse, there isn't really a jumper 'look' like hunters. I hope this helped and good luck to Gabby finding a horse!

Laura you guys don’t need a $2000 custom saddle, there’s nothing wrong with getting a second hand one that’s nearly brand new for half the price, or a cheaper brand of saddle either. As long as it’s comfortable for both horse and rider then that’s what matters. My saddle is second hand but it’s great and fits me and my horse really well :)

    • @DayByDayVlogs
      @DayByDayVlogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Unfortunately I cant buy a saddle because I'm not experienced enough to fit it to my horse. I need a professional to fit it. Hence why we end up with custom saddles.another issue we have is that I get messages always from people telling how our saddles are wrong so if I have it made for them amd checked by a fitter it's easier for me to explain to people that it does fit our horse.

I have a 15.3hh crossbreed that can technically be considered a warmblood by the simple fact that he's a cold blood cross with a hot blood horse. He's not super "Fancy" by the books by any means. But he's well put together and performs beautifully with anything i ask him to do. He's my 1.20m jumper, but we've also sorted cows, done roping, tons of trail rides, and in 2020, I think we're going to compete in the extreme cowboy challenges. The breed of the horse isn't important. What is important is the horses work ethic and personality, and how the horse and rider click together. Best of luck finding another horse! When you find the one, you'll know! :)

Hey guys so I know gabby really wants a warmblood but it's not the name your buying, it's the horse, the horses personality, and the horses temperament. You could spend 20k or more on a warmblood and it won't take a jump for anything. Warmbloods are very expensive so maybe go for a less expensive horse breed. There are always rescue horses!!! I think an older rescue horse could give gabby a lot of confidence on higher jumps!!!

I watched the entire vlog but somehow didn’t hear about buying Gabby a warmblood so I somehow missed that😂But I will say yes warmbloods and other fancy horses like Hanoverians are amazing horses but for Gabbys level of riding you should definitely try out thoroughbreds I have learnt to much from there they can be amazing horses who can jump very well and teach you lots, and you can find thoroughbreds with more experience for tons cheaper than a warmblood with less experience, so I’d recommend trying out some ottbs I personably love them ( as well as warmbloods cause they are pretty amazing but expensive😂) . I also do like quarter horses yes you can have the lazy storm quarter horses but one of the horses who taught me the most about jumping was a speedy ( probably the fastest jumper I’ve ever rode it was insane) 16hh qh who taught me to jump around the metres and he could go higher too. So I recommend going based on what the horses abilities are but I definitely recommend looking into some ottbs who have show and height experience.

I think you were talking a lot of sense Laura regarding a custom made saddle for a 10 year old. I know Gabby has one, but she’s older and does more than Sophia in terms of jumping. I’d be tempted to look at something for Finn and Sophia that’s good (obviously), although doesn’t need to be custom made, even a decent brand but second hand and a saddle that has some degree of flexibility for any adjustments that might be required over the next few years. I know it’s not easy if you have limited choice in your area, however perhaps it’s worth looking again to see if there are any saddle fitters or ones that will even be visiting your area soon, rather than just looking at one brand, without considering other options ( even looking at the range in your local tack shops might help) 😊 The other consideration of course is the actual fitting, as you know the rider ( Sophia) will need to ride Finn in the saddle, walk, trot and canter and also ideally jump, if you’re buying a jumping saddle. I know Gabby can help, although that’s not going to be ideal when the saddle is for Sophia. Just something else to consider and perhaps talk to Fionna about as it might be preferable to trailer in too the lesson barn for any fittings and have Fionna there too 😊

Of course good forgiving disposition matters the the most . I would say Irish Sport horse ( known for that ) warmblood cross, drafts Thoroughbred x and of course warmblood . Which might be a little premature at this time .

Warmbloods are amazing horses❤️ I think that would be a good breed for Gabby, but keep in mind they can spook but I dont think that will be a problem as long as you bond with your horse and teach them to respect you😁🤗

Heads up laura I've used that brand of sticky stuff (the spray, paste, and stick) and it ruined my leather. I used it on a super old steuben with very sturdy leather and it dried it out alot! It might damage your saddles worse as yall use very soft European leather saddles

dutch warmbloods, holsteiners, and irish sport horses in my opinion are great horses. most of them have a great jump with a nice pace. some thoroughbreds are like that too!

I own a Belgium warm blood and she is amazing but alot of hard work. If you get a warmblood for gaby you have to take it very seriously, no foolish business an stuff. When you look for a warmblood look at the breeding as that makes a good difference
You must look after them properly but
I know you will. My warmblood jumps me around the 5.2 jumpers with no problem and I'm 12 years old but you need the correct rider.
    Love you guys ♥️

Dutch warmbloods are great and all but I think they can get very pricey and are a bit high end. My riding instructors best jumping horses are a Percheron quarter horse and an ex racehorse. Also her Percheron Quarter is qualified as a warmblood, so depending on the mix of a horse they can technically be a warmblood and they usually have effortless jumps

Please just keep in mind that these horses need to be worked! Can be much more expenice to keep, and have a completely different temperment to storm. The biggest promble u may face is over horseing her, then gabby becoming scared. But im sure u will do the right thing. GOOD LUCK X

That tack grip spray stuff ruins your saddle and boots. PLEASE DONT USE IT. My friend used it and had to get new tall boots and her saddle is ruined now (she has a new one though because her saddle wasn’t fitting her horse properly) but I really recommend not using it.

I think gabby should get a warmblood or a thoroughbred!!
Though thoroughbreds can be really hot tempered. But I have seen tons of OTTBs that were like riding school pony they were so so gentle. But I think a quiet one would really suit gabby!

Warmbloods are great, but they are much more maintenance than a lot of breeds. Just because they are so much more inbred. They all want to breed the nice ones with the same bloodline. I have a warmbloods and they require, ulcer meds, better shoes, chiropractor , etc. but they are also high performerance horses and they are usually great for jumping... but I also have 2 Irish sport horses, and they are amazing most low matainence, best temperatures, brave horses you’ll ever meet. And one of mine who’s retired can jump the moon.
