tbh over the holidays i watched all of NL’s old dota vods and it’s still great content and fun to watch. definitely not his type of game anymore but im glad we have some of the old content to look back on :)
My personal delivery anecdote was I ordered food. Dude picks it up and its a 15 minute drive. He goes 2 exits past where I am (10 additional minutes) then stops in a parking lot. I look it up on Google Maps and its a liquor store. He then gets on a highway heading sort of back my direction but the slower route then stops at some random house before finally heading my way by doubling back the wrong way first which was slower. Took an hour over estimate and the dude says "oh man sorry family emergency"
i recently moved to daegu, and hearing nl talk about it is wild. i knew he had taught in korea since i first started watching way back when, but finding out it was actually in daegu gave me some whiplash. totally agree that daegu is pretty good and has some places you cant go if youre a foreigner. though ive mostly seen this mostly with nightlife stuff ahaha. just gotta go through some trial and error
at around 16 mins egg has some stuff to work out clearly, dude got set off over something VERY inane that was a simple comment not nearly as deep as he took it

National tragedies and generational trauma doesn't excuse the present actions of people. A billion different reasons could be provided to explain why a place is racist but at the end of the day they're still racist. Conflict-avoidance andys are too scared to say what they know is right, and are over-correcting for the brutal jingoism mindset of the early 2000's. It's the same shit as football heads excusing saudi Arabia jailing gay couples going to the world cup. We don't have to let everything fly just because it's a different country. We're allowed to judge and critique other cultures and countries because sometimes it's warranted, and maybe even helps the world become a better place. Generational trauma is an explanation, and unfortunately, bringing conflict to these people doesn't change their mind. True change requires teaching better, I absolutely agree the behavior shouldn't be excused but this just comes off as incredibly naive to me. Unfortunately no amount of rational thought can be used to reason with many of these people, at the end of the day you have to ask yourself if the conflict you generate will meaningfully create change, or if it's literally just on principle regardless of outcome.
