  • The UK is preparing to send a warship to Guyana in a show of diplomatic and military support for its former colony. This as Venezuela renews its claim for a disputed part of Guyanese territory, known for its oil & minerals reserves.

If Britain was grandstanding, dear, they wouldnt have sent a patrol boat. The armed services of the UK would be holding full scalee training exercises with the Guyanan defence forces. There are agreements to provide support to all Commonwealth nations and there are also mutual pacts between members. Even India has them.

Grandstanding is a silly and inaccurate term, Venezuela is getting belligerent, Britain is helping to send a clear message to the warmongers that action against Guyana is less likely, Venezuela shouldn’t try to copy the crazies of Argentina 4 decades ago. It didn’t end well for the Junta.

The only reason that the friendly visit of a UK navy ship to a member of the commonwealth of nations should be considered controversal is the recent hostile claim of Venezuela to part of the territory of it's neighbour.
Since Venezuela has massive oil reserves but manages to keep it's people in poverty it would probablky mange to be just as inefficient if it stole the resources of it's neighbour.

God bless the good people of those UK and Guyana. A free world stands together. If Venezuela was a person, it would be the big bully trying to shake smaller kids down for their lunch money. When the British managed to unite Guyana the people were given freedom and then independence by HM Queen Elizabeth herself. We appreciate our nation, country, foundation heritage and way of life. Venezuela has no room to talk as they've been decades long oppressors trying to disrupt the development and security of smaller neighboring nations. Their intimidating tactics have no boundaries and therefore these US and UK are more than justified in supporting Guayana 🇬🇧🇬🇾🇺🇲🇧🇷🇨🇦.

Grandstanding? The media really latched onto the term “warship” didn’t they? When it’s instead a rather small patrol ship with about enough military capacity to deal with illegal fishing vessels or small time pirates. Suppose that dwarfs Venezuela’s capacity doesn’t it? Since Venezuela’s last engagement losing a military vessel to a cruise ship.

Venezuela have been threatening to invade Guyana, a militarily weak but rich country. The 1899 Arbitral Award which set the international boundary of Guyana and Venezuela and which Venezuela demarcated and recognized for over 60 years is internationally recognized. Venezuela, when Guyana was about to get its independence in 1962 suddenly began to claim Guyana's territory and was on the point of destroying its weaker neighbour and seizing its territory . It is Venezuela which is disturbing the peace and causing tension as the the rest of the countries of the Americas through the OAS are saying. Venezuela's bullyism could be imposed on Guyana but when the bully is faced with an adequate military, they stop their foolishness. The British ship is welcome by Guyana and all the Caricom countries and has definitely reduced the tension which Venezuela has been generating. Britain has not been grandstanding but is welcomed by Guyana and the Caricom. India should be assisting Guyana as its true and dependable ally and friend. The WION reporter should try to be fully informed.

I disagree with all of you that are saying that India should “help us”. I wish you all would stop asking them for diplomatic assistance. India does not care about the Guyanese people, they care about the cursed oil just like the other countries that are involving themselves in this conflict. If they did care, why did they not care when Indo people were being ma$$acred in Wismar, Bartica and Lusignan? You all should be reminded, too, that India and Venezuela have been partners of some kind as well due to Venezuela’s rusty oil. Russia who is backing Venezuela in their imperialist ambitions, is also an ally of India. So just stop!

Let's hope it's not necessary. But why call it grandstanding? This has nothing to do with the UK trying to raise its profile. It is about defending a democracy against an autocracy. Since Guyana is a Commonwealth country, Britain accepts some responsibility for defending it given that it would not be capable of defending itself against Venezuela.

One 'borrowed' age-old French Exocet missile, fired at the British off-shore patrol vessel, ought to suffice to ignite military conflict 'twixt an under weaponised and under-strength Venezuela armed forces and battle-hardened British professionals.
They thoroughly failed to impress, upon losing an 'action' against an unarmed cruise ship touring the region . . .
Britain has experience of chasing off a covetous Guatemala from ex-British colony Belize, in Central America.

A tiny virtually useless warship from Britain cannot do anything if Venezuela decides to invade Esequibo. This issue should be sorted out by the South American countries alone, without outside interference. It was only a couple of decades ago that Trinidad and after that Guyana considered switching their own language of English, to Spanish. But nothing happened. Maduro needs to be careful, and go for a democratic way to settle the matter. Only 95,000 people live there, but they all speak English, except for the 3 % who are Amerindians who live in the forest areas, not the coast where black and brown Guyanese live.

The OPV is a a political statement and a warning. If Venezuala was stupid enough to attack and sink this minor vessel, the UK certainly has far more potent warships to deploy that would make short work of Venezuala's mediocre military and they know it.

The Dutch and British claimed essiquibo. If the Spanish felt that they were cheated over a century ago ,why they did not challenge the 1899 accord at that time?Waiting for a dead man open envelope?to know that essequibo is part of Venezuela. I know most the Caribbean Islands was discovered by Columbus but not Guiana.I studied history of the west Indian people book 0ne to book four and Caribbean lands text books in guyana high school.

The people of guyana always looked up to england as a modern country and the queen of england turn around and give her a little colony education and give us the choice to live in England or Stay in guyana . Long live, the king of England Venezuela is a thief. He can't even take care of his own country. And he's worried about hours.
