Thankyasir! Just got one today. We cut 29 mature oak and hickory trees off our property and still have a lot to go. Gonna be handling a lot of wood for a while and this thing looks to be a back saver (youngins shouldn't laugh too hard at us old farts, yours will come with age as well). Question, how sharp do you recommend the point to be? Mine is about pickaxe sharp as it came from the mfg. d:^)
Mine was pretty sharp, and still is. It wouldn't be good if I missed and hit my leg. I guess really the sharpness can vary depending on the type of wood you are handling. Since you are dealing with oak and hickory you probably want yours to be sharp. I don't want to have to swing mine hard like I am splitting wood. At the same time if you get it too sharp, it will over penetrate and stick, making it harder to remove.
@@TractorTech I got after mine with the grinder and took some metal off to put a bit "finer" point on it. Made an immediate difference but I also think there's a technique to the swing that makes it stick better as well. Either way, this one, a Dixie Industries that looks a lot like a Council, is kinda heavy. I may hasta try one of the lighter models here shortly. The axe-a-roons look interesting as well.
You can also swing it into the bark side of the wood to handle wood. Dixie makes good stuff. I have a set of their log tongs. My hookaroon is made by Ochsenkopf. I also have one with a short handle life a hatchet made by forester. It was only $20 and is pretty nice. it had a composite handle that could be just a hair studier it is nice for the money. I'm not sure if would get a forester with a 3' handle because the handle may be too flimsy.
Word of warning: pulling splits from p/u, it's much better to use a hookaroon like a 1-tine rake, not stab the split with it, whether or not you have a bed-liner. Hookaroon does not treat sheet-metal or plastic kindly. DAMHIKT Removing ice from bed requires similar caution. Again DAMHIKT
So 7 uses are all moving wood? Oh, a few more uses: loading rounds into a Chevy, loading rounds into a Ford, loading rounds into a Dodge, loading rounds into a trailer, unloading rounds from a Chevy, unloading rounds from a Ford, unloading rounds from a Dodge, unloading rounds...ugh, I think ya get the point. I made a video similar to this...7 uses for shoes: walking forward, walking sideways, walking backwards, walking up stairs, walking down stairs, walking fast and finally walking slow...that's about all I can think of for now, bye.

What is the shorter hookeroon you use in the second half of the video? Is it a Forester 20" Log Pickaroon ? It seems to have be red at the top of the hook head so not sure if it is that or another one / maybe they have changed the design a bit since you filmed this? See www.forestershop.com/forester-20-inch-log-pickaroon.html I'd really like to know what you use as it is just what I need for shifting split logs and I will be importing whatever it is to me here in the UK which will cost a bit for shipping, so want to order exactly that one. Yes, it is a forester. You are right the design has changed. I'm not sure how long my handle is. I'm pretty sure it was the shortest one they made at the time. I was ordering the other hook aroon in the video and some other things from a forestry supplier and I saw the Forestor. It was pretty cheap so I got it too. The notches on a Fiskar hookaroon are for rolling/pushing logs away from yourself or for leverage when unsticking frozen together pieces of wood/logs. Sort of like the pawls or dogs on a chainsaw.
6 years ago I didn’t know what a hookaroon was until I saw a guy loading firewood in his truck with one and I knew I had to get one. I have two bad knees and a bad back and the hookaroon was a game changer for me loading and unloading wood rounds from the truck and lifting them onto the log splitter. I keep it in my truck to pull other stuff out of my truck bed without having to climb in it.

I have a hook-a-roon like that and it is nice not having to bend over for logs and saving my back some.

Check out the log rite can't hook. It would be easy to make. People have also taken an old ax and made it into a hookaroon like mine.

A must have tool! Saves the back and knees for sure and lots of different uses for them.
Those '7 uses' were all the same, you just varied size and location. Could have shaved 2 minutes off the video tbh
