She's pushing 30 now (B"H), but still has a few we made together. Indeed, we cleaned, drilled, and sanded so many over about a decade that everyone in the family who remains Jewish (most of my wife's family and one cousin on my mom's side) has a shofar of our manufacture. I hope my rabbi and I are both alive to do it with my grandchildren. He already does it with his. If anyone wants one, it's worth paying for one already polished and destankified. Make one fresh, and you'll have to soak it in bleach for a couple of weeks and then clear, preferably distilled, water for a like period before you can blow it without gagging. Otherwise, you'll ask "What is that SMELL?" every time you walk into your home for six months.

Awesome!!! The craftsman there gave the perfect analogy of selecting and inspecting the horns: like how a woman l👀ks at her jewelry! He got that right! 😆 If I could, I'd love to buy a Shofar. I blew my shofar at a men’s camp in New Zealand some years ago. It was in the meeting and the guest speaker was praying for the leader of the camp. At the sound of the shofar, the leader dropped to the ground like the Jedi in Star Wars. The guest speaker was propelled, backwards, across the stage, airborne… He described it as … like being hit with a battering ram on his chest. I now have a lot more respect for this instrument after God revealed His power in the sound the shofar made.
I’m a Christian in Australia and love to hear the shofar. I have heard it many times, live, and I agree that there is something very special about it. When blown with specific intent (not just for fun or curiosity) it certainly heightens the intensity of the moment. I was very interested to see how they are made; without all the modern equipment, it must have taken a long time to make shofar in Bible times. As a trumpet player myself, I’m wondering, is the technique of producing the sound the same as for the trumpet ie blowing a “raspberry”?
@@summerhouse8205 Now that I understand where you are coming from, I've written much on the ba'al tekiah (master of the shofar), but again, this is not my channel. While mine sits on top of my bookcase, it does come out several times a year. It is a vastly underrated instrument, especially for use in war (which was covered by Hananya). I've had one for over 20 years. All the best. Ps, my laugh was about being no longer used. They have been used throughout history in the right circles. I did love the video!
As a Christian, I know that Jesus will return and the New Testament says that the trumpet will sound announcing His return - I wonder if it will be a Shofar!

I blew my shofar at a men’s camp in New Zealand some years ago.
It was in the meeting and the guest speaker was praying for the leader of the camp.
At the sound of the shofar, the leader dropped to the ground like the Jedi in Star Wars.
The guest speaker was propelled, backwards, across the stage, airborne…
He described it as … like being hit with a battering ram on his chest.
I now have a lot more respect for this instrument after God revealed His power in the sound the shofar made.

I’m a Christian in Australia and love to hear the shofar. I have heard it many times, live, and I agree that there is something very special about it. When blown with specific intent (not just for fun or curiosity) it certainly heightens the intensity of the moment.
I was very interested to see how they are made; without all the modern equipment, it must have taken a long time to make shofar in Bible times.
As a trumpet player myself, I’m wondering, is the technique of producing the sound the same as for the trumpet ie blowing a “raspberry”?

While mine sits on top of my bookcase, it does come out several times a year. It is a vastly underrated instrument, especially for use in war (which was covered by Hananya). I've had one for over 20 years. All the best. Ps, my laugh was about being no longer used. They have been used throughout history in the right circles. I did love the video!
