Very well said. My experience, like yours, would never have this absurd confusion about sex and sexuality in it, but now I'm being compelled to reckon w other people's confusion on the matter because that dissonance is now ubiquitous in modern entertainment.
It's not that I particularly care about homosexual stuff in video games. I remember you could have same sex romances in Mass Effect and I don't recall much in the way of backlash to it. What I do care about is agenda pushing and it's pretty obvious that this idea has completely consumed vast portions of the entertainment industry.
It’s like this avoid artist said. “I’m going to continue putting this in every game” But what is the point? It is obviously being rejected. Pushing the pronouns makes people hate it more. You’re not going to change peoples minds the more you do it. People aren’t going to accept it just because you keep forcing it in video games. It’s absolutely ridiculous. All it’s doing is losing money and galvanizing people more to hate it. What the fuck is the point? They are failing at both of their jobs. They are failing at making money, and they are failing at changing people’s minds on it. They actually make it worse.
Most gay people don't do to gay bars, because gay bars aren't for them. And most who do say it sucks and they see it as a necessary evil (now grinder is the necessary evil).
We should go back to calling it "politically correct", I think. Politically correct writing is always bad. It lacks substance. Can't offend anyone, can't talk about serious topics, cannot risk making anyone uncomfortable. The result is a game such as Veilguard, where you can't call people fools or even disagree with them.
I agree. You can pretty much replace the word "woke" with the words "politically correct" and it makes it easier to understand in almost every single sentence.
A game that focused on stuff you dont care about wearing the mantle of something you love is just gaslighting. It really is You dont advertise an epic fantasy dragon slaying game and then you dont slay dragons cause slaying creatures for simply being a creature is racist and thats bad.
I agree, but I dont agree in the generalization "every woke game is shit." Because it simple is not. For example Tell us why or all of the older Life is strange games, they are woke A LOT and still they have great screenplay, good characters etc. Veilguard is shit not because the wokeness, but really because the storywriting is abysmal -- for example dialogues. If the game wanted to "say the message," but created compelling cool characters, which are not a caricatures and "disney-like safe characters," it would be great. I dont oppose wokeness, not at all. I just oppose bad writing hiding behind "the woke."

Cyberpunk was trash. This isn't a good thing. They totally misrepresented the game in marketing, when it ended up being more like an action adventure than a deep RPG like they initially teased. Go look at the initial trailer and compare it to what you got. They refused to let people cover the bad performance in the early reviews and their lame excuse was "We thought we could fix it in time." It's also a woke as hell company. If they ever make a good game again it would be by accident. And you're here praising their garbage. They don't deserve to sell even 30,000 copies.
The game was never trash - it just wasn't an RPG. I blame CDPR, but I think the game was never meant to be a deep RPG. It was always meant to be an open world Deus Ex style cyberpunk action game, and after Witcher 3 someone in the marketing company decided they needed to market the game to fans of the Witcher series and play up the RPG elements. Not that Witcher was a great example of an RPG either.
There was only one scene I remember with Taash in Veilguard where she went woke during the main story. It's when she says, I go by "they" to her mom. Other than that you can ignore her the rest of the game until the final battle where you have to assign her to a job. And at that point you can kill her by giving her a job she isn't good at.
No, it's not considered woke. None of us consider a game that allows you the freedom to interact or not interact with elements of the game as woke. Hence why I used BG3. Because the woke crowd keeps using it as a success story even though none of us ever called the game woke. Baldur's gate 3 is very woke, cyberpunk is also relatively woke. You're just doing what you guys always do: You're accommodating your own definition of woke when it's convenient. You can't just change the meaning of the concept of wokeness to excuse yourself when you like a woke game 😂. You're being extremely disingenuous in this video, basically making up a definition for your own convenience. For example, according to you, having a pronoun selection on BG3 doesn't make the game woke, while for many other content creators aligned with you, having pronoun selection in avowed immediately made the game inescapably woke. There's many other examples of the inconsistencies that ppl like you have. And no, touching political subjects doesnt make a game woke, but it especially doesn't make a game have bad writing. These are different things. Disco elysium, for example, is a game that is ENTIRELY about politics, and it's clearly one of the best written works in all of gaming. A more recent example is metaphor refantazio... metaphor isn't subtle about handling politics, it isn't trying to hide it at all. The main plot is, in good part, about how bad racism is, the value of collectivism vs individualism in society, among other several politically charged matters. It's also an expertly well written game, by far the best writing of 2024. So no. I completely disagree with this take. You guys need to either agree on what woke actually means to you and stick with that, or you need to retire the term altogether. You can't just change what is and isn't woke at a second's notice.
