hey mate fun as session, what size assists are you running? been throwing cicadas and missing so many fish with the normal trebbles, whats your best tactics?
@charliemason4925 Assist Hooks I use are generally Atomic size #10 or #08 without the skirts. Main trick is get as close to the bank as possible or under the foliage of the tree. Wind the line a little to take up the slack. Then wobble your rod tip side to side to give a vibration motion to the cicada. Pause 10 seconds wind it to take up the slack with a wiggle as well. The wind is very slow. Once 1 metre from the bank wind it in move up a little if no strikes and go again. If you get a hook up then dropped most likely they won't come back for it. Try one more cast just in case they do or they might be in a pair.
Also, Some cicadas brands like Atomic only come with one spot for trebles. Where Profishent and my own MKG ones have 2 spots. So Treble in the middle and Assist hooks in the back. Not sure on other brands though. Personally go with ones that have 2 potential hook sections, 4cm is the ideal length as most Australian cicadas are around that length.
@@mightykayakgeek4299 great info thanks mate, i think the assist hooks in the back may be the missing ingredient! just had some suisen cicadas arrive today so looking ofrward to a session asap
