Hot take: girlfriend is not crazy at all. There could be any number of perfectly rational and innocent reasons to have a short call from an unkown number. Could be anything from a telemarketer to an appointment reminder. What's weird is that the listener said it was just static, and then....continued to just listen to static for like 2 minutes? That actually doesn't add up. Furthermore, the "crazy" girlfriend has rational reasons to be concerned. The fact that this guy really seemed to have a hard time letting go of his ex, along with the fact that there's a least some history of this guy willing to be dishonest, and I don't think it only being small things makes it any better. Even if it is a little possessive, I don't think it goes beyond normal insecurities that probably aren't too uncommon in a scenario like this, especially given how people do cheat, it's not like an outlandish thing. To be accused can hurt. It doesn't feel good to know someone in this kind of relationship doesn't trust you, but I actually do think people should be willing to reassure their partner in a scenario like this or even allow them to go through your phone. Everytime you hear of some scandal, whether it's a famous person or someone in the family or whoever, it always comes down to 2 things: sex and/or money. People are screwed up and if put in the wrong circumstances, people who are usually decent can do fucked up things. Given that reality, I think people should be willing to be completely open with their partners. Maybe that's a red flag on my part, but I stand by this.
