Major Gaurav mentioned Indian side of Punjab where they get 2-2.5 times crop from same land. It reminded me of growing up in India in 70s and 80s. I dont remember whether that incident was late 70s or early 80s, but my Mamaji took me to border. Not Wagah border which is tourist attraction, but a normal India-Pakistan border where there was an imaginary line. He told me that the land is the same, the weather is the same, the people are the same but there is a line that makes the difference. On this side (Indian side) the crops are not doing well, and on the other side of that line they get 2-2.5 times the yield per acre of land. I asked him why. He said because in India there is too much corruption. The seeds are subpar, the fertilizers are fake and a whole lot more. On other other side of the line they get good seeds, good fertilizers etc due to less corruption, so they get better results. How things have changed over the years?!
I have been tracking such things for nearly 3-4 decades and most of this change has come to be in recent years only BTW. I had decided not to ever do business in India but in last few years I have been open to the possibility as things are not so bad as they had been before. I do not mind coming back to India now as my experiences here were so bad with all kinds of goondagardi and lawlessness and now I can see things have improved here so it is possible for a law abiding citizen to live here.
There is a FOOD Security ACT in India. Every Indian is legaly entitled to FOOD in India. Its his/her RIGHT as an Indian citizen. Food Corporation of India is build just to ensure this Food Security
Our school used to invite Indian Administration Service officers for guest lectures and these lectures would always end with Q&A sessions. In one of those sessions to a question on What keeps her awake at night? Her answer was: Collapse of Pakistan state because if Pakistan fails then where will people of Pakistan seek refuge? In India. So Indian security establishments never want Pakistan to collapse.

Main problem with Pakistan is that confronting India and defeating India is higher priority than nation building and working for the well being of ordinary Pakistani people. Even after you have destroyed your enemy still you have to build your nation yourself nobody else can do it for you. You cannot collect taxes from the defeated enemy and run your country on income from the defeated country like in 18th century.

Modi is crazy task master. He gives mission and dates and leaves people to do it with milestones. The moment first milestone is not hit he knows last will not hit. Before 1947 the Indian Punjab which also included Haryana and some parts of Himachal Pardesh was smaller in size as compared with Pak Punjab and the grain production was just enough for its own consumption . Punjab was always a granary of India and all the food grains before 1947 were shipped from west side of Punjab ( Pak Punjab) to the rest of India. Current Punjab which is a tiny state produces almost three times of West Punjab. Another fact Punjab and Haryana produces more food grains per acre than any other area in the rest of the world not only Madhya Pardesh and UP. Total production is more in UP and MP as mentioned by Major Sahib.
