The markings on Lucci's back aren't a tattoo, they're scars from that cannon fire he tanked in the backstory. They just happen to be in the shape of the World Government flag.
It’s really fascinating how psychotic Lucci is , he doesnt have a tragic backstory (as far as i know) , he just love’s killing other people for The World Goverment , he belive’s in their ruthless “justice”.
If you'd like another layer to Lucci's backstory, him as well as all the other CP9 members (other than Spandam) were orphans taken by the government and trained since being very young. So take that as you will
Fishmen are real, so it’s only natural that mermaids would be too. They’re essentially just fishmen that lean more on the fish side. Also fun fact, being Kokoro’s grandkid, Chimney is 1/4 mermaid.
"It's fun to see Lucci as the hero in a different story" he said xD I'm already so curious what you'll think of the next arc. A lot of people consider it weak, but I think it's fun! (but also a lot of people say you should skip Skypiea, and they're wrong, so that's that)
Dereshishishishishi is Robin's fake laugh when she is forcing herself to laugh through the sadness so it makes no sense to laugh that way around strawhats since she's laughing from the bottom of her heart
speaking of lucci being alive, you should probably talk to a friend who's caught up or some fans from patreon to tell you which cover stories to read. oda draws these side stories on the cover of every chapter of characters from past arcs what they are doing after their encounter with the strawhats. The anime animated some of them in the beginning like coby and buggy but they stopped doing it. A lot of that connecting tissue is lost because of it. I think they are worth looking into. They sometimes come into play into the story as you will see after ennies lobby ends.
@@joelsasmad I hope the live action will incorporate the side stories, like they're currently, sort of, doing with Koby and Helmeppo. If we ever get to Enies Lobby I can totally see them filming the Cp9 cover stories.
2:56 I think it is good to point out this shot, because you have said that they only do shots like this of female characters, which seems like selective recall to me.
What I love about these reactions is that you’re realizing in real time that you’re watching one of the best seasons of any anime ever. Enies lobby really is top tier
Fun fact: Kokoro is not the first mermaid seen in the manga. Around Arabasta time, Hachi has a cover story where he breaks out of a prisoner transport ship, meets a mermaid, and starts a takoyaki shop. So by this point manga readers have known for a while that mermaids also exist!
If anime's pacing is bothering you might I suggest doing read throughs of the manga? Like you do for Sanderson books? It might be difficult with Shueisha but it's worth looking into. Manga is the definitive way to experience one piece in my opinion.
Luffy can bounce off cannonballs, but if he's caught in an explosion from one, he'll be hurt like any other. Generally cannonballs are also big enough that Luffy needs to balloon up to have the surface area to rebound them. So they are an actual threat, he just has a way to work around them.
Im totally with you about the previous arcs. While you are now at one of the peak arcs of OP, there are still many good things ahead. Next arc is also pretty fun although nothing happens.
Lucci's dark justice was weirdly interesting to me. Being weak wasn't the crime. It was being weak while being the kingdom's defenses. The soldiers were an embodiment of "justice" that was too weak and ineffective to do their jobs. So, by killing them he was removing the possibility of this happening again. Strengthening the kingdom by culling weak blood. His "justice" is basically following orders to the point of willful malignance. He's going to do whatever he wants in the parameters of the law, especially if it removes weakness and inefficiency from the world. So it is especially interesting that he has to take orders from someone like Spandam. An embodiment of everything he hates.
im pretty sure this was already said, but ill vaguely say, theres many races in the one piece world, which were introduced in this arc, fishman are a race they dont have to be merfolk. some like arlong are more like shark type race than anything.
Very much agreed on the overthrowing the government plan, I'm so on board (Spoilers below) I can't wait for the Revolutionary Army characters to show up properly... especially Iva. I'm a bit worried because I know Kamabakka Kingdom gets introduced before Iva and it might colour Nerdy's reaction to Iva, but otherwise I feel like there's no way he won't love Iva, especially after also mentioning that he loves Rocky Horror
spoilers omg same, especially after he called alvida’s crew gay pirates in episode one 😭 also rlly excited to see how he reacts to the entirety of sabo
It's not that being weak is the sin. The sin is that the soldiers surrendered to the enemy, which is basically desertion. The punishment for desertion is the death sentence in basically all countries.
what is great about Lucci imo is he isn’t some batman type dude who is out to stop bad guys or seek revenge, he is JUST a heartless killing machine. simple as that.
The guy telling Lucci’s backstory is a Vice Admiral. He’s certainly stronger than Lucci at this point, so he had no reason to be worried about him. If literally just 1 of the VA’s could get off their ass and got on the bridge the Strawhats would be screwed.
This perspective may not be acceptable to everyone, but I believe it aligns well with Rob Lucci's logic. The weakness of ordinary people is not a sin, but when you are a soldier of the kingdom, that weakness becomes a sin. Because of your weakness, evil (pirates) find an opportunity to exploit, endangering the kingdom and the safety of other people. Lucci despises the weak, and these soldiers happen to be the ones who claim to uphold justice. This makes Lucci hate them even more-weakness in the name of justice is something he cannot tolerate.
sadly that sums up the show. 50% feeling like "i dunno if this is for me this is dragging on a bit" and 50% holy crap i cant wait to see what happens next. so yea just prepare for more low lows and some high highs
lol the underground incident...... also if you use the character alignment for DnD in one piece characters you could have peg lucci as chaotic evil from the get go
Bro thought Luccie is up to something good ^^' And how a mermaid nearly killed all the strawhats by her appearance XD AND i'm very glad you didn't quit on One Piece, now you know how this show works, every arc gets better and better and is building up for a PEAK that throws someone off the chair :D
Just a warning it slows down after this acr ends. But from the last part of the next arc for another 3 arcs is another insane non-stop rollercoaster like Water 7/ Enis Lobby was.
It's easy to forget that way back, Lucci had a line about being working for the World Government so he can do legalized murder. This episode further supports that he's got some kind of bloodlust that might even predate his devil fruit (?). There was no good reason for him to kill the hostages. Murdering them gained him nothing and even wasted his time in the process. Barring evidence otherwise, he did it solely because he wanted to. For what it's worth, Vice Admiral Doberman didn't shoot the guy who protested in the manga, iirc. I say this to lay out that you haven't yet scratched the surface of how horrible One Piece's World Government is. The marines are probably their nicest branch.
Mermaid and Fishmen are real. xD Sure Mermaids can have devil powers but they wond drown. There is a Fishmen who dosent get weak by water after he ate the fruit.
So Lucci's back story... The reason he killed ALL of those KINGDOM SOLDIERS that were hostage wasn't so much that they were weak and its viewed as a crime by Lucci, but more that those were all the troops of the Kingdom that hadn't died in combat. Once the Pirates were defeated those soldiers would've been the first and main line of defense for the kingdom that likely refused joining the World Government up until they desperately required the assistance to survive the pirate occupation. That means Lucci was sent not only to secure a kingdom (mainly the Kingdom's worth of resources that come with it) but to make it so they would NEED the World Government to survive a future where they are without soldiers or defenses. That means once the pirates are gone, the Govt occupation takes hold and due to the desire to keep their people alive the monarch of the kingdom will likely agree to pay the Celestial Tribute every month which will slowly drive said kingdom to extinction once they have used up the island's resources feeding the celestials.
Alabasta is so much better in the manga. I think it'll be way better in the Wit Studio remake. Has some of the worst filler in the entire series IMO and them folding it into the show by keeping Ace around extra for those lame fillers instead of him leaving when he does. it slows down so much dramatic tension and even has straight up important wrong shit like extra poneglyphs that don't exist and stuff
It’s so wild that Alabasta is the arc that almost broke Nerdy. I don’t think I know anyone else who shares that opinion. I do get hating the desert section though
Lucci logic is sound albeit fucked up, basically without the hostages then the pirates had no chip to bargain. On a macro level it stopped the pirates from getting a nation and keep said nation on its place. With that said its funny to see one asking to top down the WG already on this arc considering what we know will come soon XD Also for why anyone would stay with the marines, my head canon is that their dental is amazing
Even if you would be struggling right now, I would beg you to at least stay with the show until the 500 because I guarantee you you won’t be able to stop at all
I'm just past Episode 700 and I'm sorry to report: The slog is comming back with a vengeance. I was a huge One Piece fan since Oda started writing in the 90s. Manga and Anime. But that stretch made me quit back then. The live action show convinced me to give it another go, so I started my rewatch. Some of the bad stuff doesn't annoy me as much now that I know what happens and I'm determined to push through. I manage to enjoy it, focusing on what is good about the show, but please brace yourself for what is to come pacing-wise.
Nerdy: "Why Do These People Stay With The Government?" Me: Same Reason Why Germany Didnt Rebel Against Hitler... Fear; Fear of the COs, Fear of Hitler Himself and Fear That ALL of That Military Might Will Come Down Upon Them, As If God Smited Them With Lightning.
I like when people ask questions like that... Then the answer is obvious... Instead of having conversations about it we still act and ask questions like this is not something realistic... Like we ourselves stay with the Gov.
Kokoro was talking to yokuzuna on the train everyone was like "are you talking to a frog?"
Yeah, that foreshadowing was nice.
@@nanach6276 also the fact that she's together with Tom, which is a Fishman

lol, that's convenient XD
So remember when Kokoro could talk to Yokuzuna and how Chimney could some how swim in such strong rapids to save Luffy twice? Yeah thats why.

It's not being weak that is a crime, it's being weak while being soldiers of the kingdom that endanger their kingdom by being weak.
Yup, it´s also something like: "They should have died (honorably?) in combat. No surrender."
@@johnyshadow Yeah. "By surrendering, you gave the pirates leverage against your king" or something like that.

I like that it now makes sense that Chimney managed to save Luffy from drowning. She is at least a quarter Fishman.
If there’s any myths or legends about the sea oda has either made reference to it of added it in the story
Just a heads up on the pacing, thriller bark starts to slow down a little and it gets worse from there. Just stick it out until after that arc.
luckily i think tb starts to pick up towards the end of the
I think Nerdy should switch to One pace after Episode 500.
