Mark Lowry also did an outstanding interview with Voctave's founder and arranger Jamey Ray a few years back. Jamey talks a bit about the history of Voctave. th-cam.com/users/livedljXxUKEl9I?si=QbuC_2FW6v1995NU
Mark does the best rendition of this song. Mark also sang with David Phelps in the Gaither Vocal Band for many years. They are both fantastic singers!! I'm glad you have reacted to both of them. Check out David's "We Are The Reason" for your Christmas songs this year. Both of his daughters sing background on this song, and his sister plays the trumpet. I know you reacted to Maggie Beth, but his other daughter Callie is also a good singer. 5 little fingers is a song you would like with the girls singing with their dad. I have heard both Mark and David in person 6 times, and they both, along with the Gaither Vocal Band, are incredible. The "Nessun Dorma" song you recently did with David has Mark Lowry and the Gaither Vocal band standing behind him on stage. Really enjoy your reactions!!
As the song’s lyricist, Mark’s interpretation really lets us see how he and Buddy Green conceived of this piece. He has MS (multiple sclerosis), thus the need for him to be seated while performing, and making his two very long notes even more impressive. Voctave’s beautiful choral accompaniment gives a powerful backing when called for, while also pulling back and allowing Mark to shine. Kate Lott is the high soprano you were geeking out over. She could easily overpower the entire group with her sound, but she controls her voice so well that she can hit that note up top solidly and yet softly, particularly at the end. Looking forward to the rest of your holiday videos, Danielle!
Great reaction, Miss Danielle! You probably know by now, but Mark Lowry sang in the Gaither Vocal Band along with David Phelps. That is a huge rabbit hole to go down...
This is absolutely, hands down, the most beautiful version of this song I’ve ever heard! Mark brought the idea of this song along with a bunch of questions he would want to ask Mary if he could have! Buddy Green and Mark then sat down and put the song together with music and the rest of the lyrics! I can only imagine being in that room, Voctave being able to sing with the writer and Mark being able to sing with such beautiful voices! It would have been amazing for both! Thank you for doing this song, I tell people that I introduced it to, before they hear it, that it is life changing! Absolutely beautiful! Great job! Low bass Kenneth
I think that Voctave with Mark Lowry does the most heavenly version of this carol - so gorgeous. It's a special gift to have the lyricist singing what he wrote asking Mary did you know.
Yes! I am soooo glad that you have *finally* heard and reacted to this wonderful performance! For years Pentatonix version of this, my favorite Christmas song, was my favorite. Then I heard this one. First, it's just an amazing performance. Voctave is amazing as a backing choir and Mark's performance is amazing - especially that long long held note. Also, I have an emotional connection to Mark because I have enjoyed his singing and comedy for many years - you have seen his comedy, haven't you? If you haven't, you have a treat waiting for you! Loved your reaction to this. God bless you, Danielle.
Mark wrote the lyrics as part of a sermon he was giving as a visiting speaker at a church. He wanted to know if you had a chance to have a cup of coffee with Mary, what you would ask? Did you have a clue as what your son would do? Many years later, as member of the Gaither Vocal Band, they were on a bus. He got together with Buddy Greene, and Buddy put music to the words! David Phelps was also a member of the group. I know you have reacted to him more than once. On David's "O, Holy Night", Mark is right behind him in the choir. Much younger, and wear a bright red shirt and jacket.
#Voctave - is pure vocal mastery! Hearing Mark tell the story in song that he wrote, the harmonizing of the BGVs, the layering and the dynmaics!!! Just WOW! Christmas isn't Christmas without Voctave's music included.
Lol...I'm glad that you found out that Mark wrote this song... He originally wrote this song in 1984 but it didn't come out for years later until his friend and fellow performer in the Gaither Homecoming Friends , Buck Greene put music to Marks lyrics and this beautiful song was born... In my opinion Voctave does the best rendition of this song... I requested this sometime ago and I'm glad you finally got around to listening to it... Great reaction Danielle... Keep being awesome...!!!
Home Free fan here, but this is far and above any other version of this song, acapella or instrumental, bar none. The voices help evoke the meaning of this song. Clearly, this is a meaningful song to Mark. I am brought to tears & the goosies every time I hear this song by Voctave & Mark. Breathtakingly beautiful.
Yep! Mark sings the song like no one else, because he is the original vocalist for it. More fun facts: Mark had a career as a Christian comedian, writing and singing many parody songs of early contemporary Christian music. This is one of the few serious songs he wrote during his comedian days, and it is easily his best known work now.
Ah yes. Love this version. You can just feel Mark’s passion for this song and its meaning come through. Plus, Jamie Ray’s compositions make you feel like you’re on the best roller coaster.
Mark Lowry wrote MARY DID YOU KNOW he and David Phelps sang together for years with the GAITHER VOCAL BAND -you need to hear David’s arrangement of this and his recent performance of O HOLY NIGHT
I am not a religious man, but this song and Voctave's amazingness bring a tear to my eye every time... it is so beautiful. Mark Lowry's voice is perfect. Like angels singing
I think this is possibly the greatest acapella performance I've ever heard. When I saw that you have (finally!) reacted to it, I knew you couldn't handle it :)
I'm not crying! Really, I'm not. Oh, who am I kidding... I totally cried. I do every time I watch this. As lovely as the other versions out the are, this one is just special. Mark's faith and conviction come through with every note. The BGV's are stunning and perfectly blended.
Mark is the best baritone I’ve ever heard. And he’s a comedian as well. His years with the Gaither Vocal Band were amazing! Also in the Gaither Vocal Band as their high tenor was a guy named David Phelps…
Mark and david phelps were part of the Gaither Vocal Band. Had many great christian songs....southern gospel at its best...by the way, david has a live version of this from his O Holy Night a Holiday Celebration concert .
Lots of people have done this song but no one delivers this song like Mark. Such a beautiful voice but he sings this like a sermon, not a song. He believes what he’s saying and it shows. Voctave killed it as well.
Mark Lowry was seated while doing this also...I believe he had MS at this time. His breath control is legendary...he used to torture the Gaither Band (he was a member for years, as lead and comedian singer) by trying to see if anyone else could hold a note as long as he could. He especially liked to challenge David Phelps. I loved their performances. Of course Kate Lott's voice is from a whole different galaxy from the rest of us!
Mark Lowry is the ORIGINAL lyricist that wrote Mary Did You Know.. He has a deep understanding of the song which makes it amazing to hear and as a Christian he gets the larger meaning as well.
Mark Lowry is the songwriter. Based on your comments, I'm not sure you realized that. Anyway... This song doesn't do much for me... just doesn't 'reach me.' Having said that, Jamey has created a masterpiece with his arrangement here! I'm glad you (finally) gave it a listen.
Yes the song is amazing as is Voctave. The important point is the message in this song. It's simply the reason Christ was born into this cesspool of creatures that screwed up so horribly and had no way of being made whole with God, so he allowed his 1 and only son to make things right.
Thanks for the reaction! I’m sorry, I don’t like suggesting songs for artists that aren’t featured in the video, because to me it feels so much like trying to steal the spotlight and ignoring the talent featured in the video… (that’s not what I’m trying to do), but I did want to tell you, because I kow your a fan of his: Geoff Castellucci just dropped his version of Carol of the Bells… And it is the most ingenious, goose-bump inducing, weirdly both action-movie epic and sob your eyes out emotional… arrangment I have ever heard… in my life. The dark arrangment combined with the longing tone of the harmonies just-got to me. It got to me. Thus this rant. I’m so sorry. I digress.
Wonderful performance, harmony and musical arrangement. There is another version that I consider the most spectacular, with an unconventional musical arrangement and a phenomenal voice : Laura Bretan / Mary did you know ? ( th-cam.com/video/oFO10QrM_z0/w-d-xo.html ). Enjoy !
Mark is the one who wrote this song!! Please react to this version. This will make you cry. This is as pure as it gets. th-cam.com/video/3fbgWa5pH3g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qniSoh0ySf73axhi #SubscriptionSquad Happy Holidays Danielle! =)

As Mark wrote this, and being the singer he is, this one really feels the best!
Thanks for reviewing!

Kate Lott’s control over her voice is actually unmatched. Her last note is so unbelievably soft but still piercing.

Mark is seated because he has MS……
Amazing that he could perform at the level.
But, as others have told you, he authored this song.
It’s ok to cry. This song is worth the tears. 🎯🔥✔️🫡😵💫

Mark Lowry wrote the words and he had Buddy Green put them to music.
Absolutely beautiful, for me I like the Pentatonix version slightly more. Maybe it was because of the different leads made it more interesting for me.

You have to check out Jordan Smith's rendition.
please react to Voctave's version of 'Impossible Dream', with and without the DCI group the Carolina Crown (which is done live)...

@@GraceLatour-z2c That does not make any sense, with that logic no cover can be better than the original and that just can't be true.
This version is to slow. You should hear this song by Pentatonix
