I'm sorry, but your comment comes off as kinda ignorant and frankly a bit annoying - even though I'm sure you might mean it well. It's not up to you to decide how people creates their art - that's first of all. Now, second, just see how many people feel touched by these beautiful words, chords, timbres AND singing diction.
If you think songs like this one sound 'depressing' then simply don't listen - you don't, then, also have to dictate or navigate musicians/artists to create songs in a way that fit your preferences of diction or whatever, tough. There are plenty of (subjectively) 'happier' sounding music out there, and I'll eat my old hat if some of those songs aren't also about being transgender or of similar topics.
Oh, and btw, you can make 'depressive' sounding music while still living a good, 'happy' life - it is possible. Trans people are just one of multiple minorities that face a lot of hardship in our society still, and just because you transition that doesn't mean life can't feel 'depressive' anymore nor that the scars from the past/present doesn't matter anymore.
If you think transgender musicians need to study diction, then I think you need to study transgender musicians.
