- Today I am bringing y'all along while I cook a full meal. Baked chicken with potatoes , carrots, and onions... butter beans, smothered cabbage, and cornbread. I am sharing some things about my experience with the hurricane. Lots of good food, chatting....sharing.

Small Batch Cornbread ( 8 inch skillet)
1/2 c all purpose flour
3/4 c cornmeal
2 T sugar
1/2 t salt
2 t baking powder
1 egg
1/2 c milk ( more if needed)
425 for 20ish minutes....grease the skillet with bacon grease or your choice of oil

I am so thankful for Richard. When Troy passed away, he stayed with me from the first night until I told him I was ok and he could go home. He has been such a strong help! He still stays here quite a bit
God bless you my friend. It is so hard as we get older to clean up and do things. My grandson came and helped me drag big limbs out and then we bagged up all the small stuff. It’s not perfect but I just have other things I need to do. Today we’re getting rain and the temperature is down which is a blessing. My husband is gaving health problems and is losing his strength. He stll is trying to work. He’ll be 76 in September but we’re taking one day at a time. Our Heavenly Father knows. Thank you for sharing. I’m late watching this. We’ve been going to the Medical Center in Houston, so I’m not having the free time. Praying for you Gay.❤️✝️🙏🇺🇸

lol....some folks think I am crazy!!!! I am for sure taking it slow. Doing a little along. I just can't do what I used to do....at the same speed! ugh.....

Thank God you are ok and that your home was not damahed. So much loss of life and property from that storm. We did not have any effects of the storm except a little rain and wind, but limbs were everywhere. I wish I would have had the insight to have all the trees in the backyard cut way back when I could afford it. Now, it is not in my budget since my husband took ill. He is on Hospice and I am doing all I can took take care of him and the household. He was my gardener and tree trimmer. But God will provide what I need. I pray for your strength and mine!
It isn't fun being the "man". I am thankful for my grandson....he helps so much. BUt, the decisions that Troy used to make......I just pray and ask God for guidance

So glad to see you Gay! We were without electricity for 4 days. Our tree debris is gathered up (thanks to my precious neighbor) but not picked up yet by our trash folks or the county. I know what you mean about no help. We have no other help and can’t afford to pay anyone. It will just take time for our back yard. So glad you are ok!
I have lots more time than money.....lololol....I'll just putter along as I can!
Proof of a good cook -never add unnecessary water. The goal is to never have any liquid left after vegetable is eaten. Keep the flavor and nutrients in the food, not down the drain. Good job!

God bless you, Gay. Good to see you here, again. I’m stuck in California until Sept but I have a mess to clean up when I get back to Houston/Galveston area. A huge limb has been removed from my roof and a patch has been put on. All BR furniture has been taken to the curb and another limb hangs over the power line. Very difficult to take care of things long distance. It could have been worse and I’m grateful it wasn’t.
Oh, I am so sorry! I was thankful that my home was spared. I can't imagine being away and not being able to have hands on ......

I'm enjoying the video. Good reminder for preparedness in case of whatever comes our way. To play it safe, I'll eat breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and supper with maybe a snack and dessert, too.

Thank God you're OK. I cook my cabbage that way as well. Your dinner/lunch looked delicious. I'm glad your Grandson comes over to help. Praying you get through strength and ENERGY to do what you need to do. For me it just takes getting started then the day goes by fast and the day light runs out. It takes me 4 hours to cut the grass/lawn now. Used to take 2 hours. We'll it still gets done. Sorry about your garden hope you can salvage some of it. ❤️

So good to see you are back and doing well!! So much to clean up!! I always grew up having breakfast, lunch and supper, except for Sundays. Then lunch became dinner because it was the big supper meal at the small lunchtime 😄. I still say it this way and all my boys (adults now) are still confused 🤣

This week our temps are in upper 80's.....rain every day!!!! I am thankful for my home being safe!

God sure had me in his safe place. I am thankful! I am just gonna do stuff a little at the time....and not stress over it. I can only do so much ...rest....do a little more. Outside takes the energy outta me!!! So hot and humid!

I wish I didn’t have so many obligations I’d be down there in a jiffy getting that back yard cleaned up, no charge. And I can’t imagine going through that alone, no consolation but at least it was daylight hours. Good thing your more prepared than most. The chickens, how’d they weather the storm. Maybe I will come, you can make me some cornbread that looks delicious. Take care.

We were blessed up here in the panhandle. We were expecting thunderstorms and tornadoes. Not that the hurricane hits us here ( I used to live in Galveston when I first started my career as a nurse, almost ten years ago) but it changes our weather patterns up here and we normally get tornadoes. No tornadoes this time. Just a little rain. We had very cloudy skies and a temperature drop for a couple days down into the 50’s and 60’s. Which was a relief from the 100 degree temps for a couple of days. Lived in Galveston in the 1990’s. For about ten years.
Ohhhhh…. Galveston! You know first hand!! I dread the what ifs of hurricane season. Ya never know. Glad with you y’all dodged the tornadoes this time!!! Have a wonderful day!!!

Ugh..I'd rather battle hurricanes than tornadoes. At least we have sufficient warning . They are saying middle of August there will be another hurricane probably hitting us again. I pray NOT!

Glad you are okay! We have had some bad and strange weather here in Colorado, thunder storms with some good sized hail! Right now I can’t see the mountain range because of the smoke from the wild fires in Canada and Oregon! Try not to wear yourself out ❤

I totally trust God....but in the Bible it says the conies (ants) are but a feeble thing yet they lay up in the summer for the winter, How much more should we be wise and prepare for unexpected happenings.

How did your chickens make it through the storm? We got some rain , but that is about all. I praise the Lord for that. Glad you are okay.
My hens are fine and dandy! Their coop is high and dry and they even have a fan 24/7. The coop area is covered in hardware cloth, and the coop house is solid with a good roof on it. I will show yall one day! I paid good money to have it built strong and secure!

I'm glad you are doing good- we had a little damage here and lost all of my cucumber and tomato vines but we are all safe! This meal looks like something we cook every now and then...usually not too often because it's only me here and I can't cook for just one! We are praying that is the last storm for the year! Are you saying a little bit of sugar will get rid of a freezer burn taste?
It helps. But its mostly the fresh taset like something is missing...but salt doesn't do the trick. Does this make sense?

Hi Gay, I’ve been a long time subscriber and absolutely love your channel but it’s getting hard to watch because of the background noise. Sounds like maybe your AC or FD but it’s very noticeable making me have to turn channel off. Anyway, hope you are doing well. 🥰
Thank you for watching forever. I don't have a clue what you are hearing.. I'd change it if I could. I listen to my videos and don't hear a noticeable noise level. I don't have a freeze dryer anymore and the central ac is a distance from the kitchen. I will try to check it out!
