The thing is though, this animation is actually a really good summary of just how little people cared about most wars. When the guard drops his helmet and asks for it back, the attackers just see him as a guy who's lost his helmet and try to help him. When they hit him in the head, you can see they're all looking up to see if he's all right. When he opens the gate, they don't immediately run him down but instead wait for him to get his helmet. Obviously the situation is exaggerated here, but not that much; if you do just a cursory amount of research, you'll find all kinds of stories about soldiers on supposedly opposite sides of a conflict being friendly to each other, declaring ceasefires on Christmas, playing football, etc. Yes, there were/are wars where the opposing armies genuinely hate each other, but for the most part, the humans involved in the fighting still recognized each other as humans (70% of the foot soldiers who survived WWII admitted intentionally missing as many shots as they could because they couldn't bring themselves to kill a person). And the end where the guard shrugs and puts on a different colored shirt shows how little it meant for the average person who their country's ruler was. Because, at the end of the day, we just want simple things. Like a helmet.
I think you are reading too much into it. Yes there have been times in war when both sides have come together in some sort of agreement, but these are very few and far between, I.e. very very rare. In reality, the guard would not be asking for his helmet, no one would be trying to get his helmet back to him, once the drawbridge was down the invading force would have entered and the guard either quickly killed or taken prisoner.
The statistic about WW2 is about right. Military training after that focused on breaking down people's natural reluctance to kill each other. However, there has always been quite a bit of raping and pillaging. How does that fit into your theory?
I admire this guy's cool demeanor - especially, when he stopped the fight and asked for a helmet, late when he calmly stepped down and took his helmet and finally, ans this is the best and most hilarious, when he saw a new flag, shrugged his shoulders and suddenly put on a correct shirt - this is incredible))))))))))) This guy will never lose his job. Awesome
I love the quality of this, lowering detail allows you to increase quality without sacrificing too much time and in my opinion quality is always preferable to detail.
You are amazing" Birdbox Studio". I laughed mightily at this little gem. So much conveyed and yet so much left to the imagination in this hugely tiny epic. I am absolutely in awe of what you do, and even more delighted that you do it. I wish you rainbows.
Entertaining !!! Make me smile.... I read some comments and they are even better than the cartoon!!!! Woaww almighty some people have some imagination !!!! Love it
"There may be conflicts and fights, but in the end it doesn't even matter, we're humans who cares for each other and just wants to keep a healthy but friendly environment unless there's poison and that is the root of war." - A philosopher that I forgot
You wont believe this, but something very much like this happened in real life . The English were holding Shrewsbury castle . While fighting the Welsh in the middle ages . There had been a lull in the fighting for a few months and things had quieten down. One Sunday morning the garrison trooped out, going to church. Leaving solders guarding the main entrance ,( some say only 2) . The Welsh seizing their opportunity, rushed in, over powering the defenders . But it was done very quickly with very little noise. When the English returned , after church they were more then a little upset, to find new lodgers !
After watching it so many times I'm starting to wonder this is not the first time the castle swaps hands. That's what you get for not fitting your guards with the right helmet.
This is what it's like to be a contractor. At the end of the contract, if it ends up going to another company, it's easier to just hire everyone already doing the jobs and give them new shirts than hire and train their own people.
I love how much of the story was conveyed just by the movement of the spears.
😶🤔🤦👍🙋
We got the point.
@@blackswan6963I see what you did there
I like how he already had a new uniform up there with him
He knows how to keep his job.
How to keep his job: yes
How to DO his job: ....not so much
Only a bureaucrat could beat that :-)
Comical
Smells like a politician. Chooses the best personal option when confronted with a choise.
...and his *head*
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how England was founded
:O :O
HA HA HA HA!!! Historically correct!
And now it’s time for tea
Legends say, this tradition is carried out to this day.

I love this little yay when they get in the castle :D

Lesson : Lock the door when you come home
@Jacob Zondag That's why bastions/towers had holes in them.
Also don't let your soldiers use heirloom gear, equip them well.
Hot oil was rarely thrown at attackers because of its high cost. Boiling water and other nasty stuff was more common.

That guard knew how to play the Game of Thrones

@@malaykumarnath9650 You either win................
But the end was soo bad!!!
Game of Shirts*
When you play the game of thrones, you win or you drop your helmet.
Fantastic! I love how simply the characters are drawn. This less than 2 minute video gave me such a GREAT BIG laugh! Thank you so much!
I love that he had the extra shirt ready 😂

To be fair that guard did a pretty good job defending his country considering he’s the sole member of their army.
this channel inspired to start my own animation channel... thank you birdbox

So much detail in a simple animation. Brilliant.

Honestly, considering historical incidents, this is probably what a couple castle sieges were actually like lmao.
Excellent
That's why mom always warns about door...keep it closed
moral of the story: tailor-fit your guards' helmets.
When you tell the guard to protect his equipment above all else:
Brilliant piece of work. So Monty Python! Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beautiful work
Excellent comedy!
That guard could be one of my ancestors. Lol 😄
If the Far Side comics were animated.

Serious comedy 😜

I love the sound the soldier's making when he's throwing the helmet up to the tower :D

Moral: always keep the enemy jersey handy.

Modern businesses would rather replace the existing staff with incompetent morons who cost less.
Cool cartoon )Well reflects the senselessness of wars.
Should nominated for Oscar animated short.
