When I was a kid…late 60s early 70s…my grandfather lived just a few blocks from the locks. My dad always took me to the locks to watch the ships. There were way less fences and security in place back then and you could get close to the ships like you did here. Watching this video brought back those memories…thanks for that memory. 😊
I think when I first moved to this area in 2012, the fences became more prominent around that time, inthink there were a few drownings (a couple of suici***s too)
Sitting waiting on Jamno to leave Duluth Canal. I've wanted to do some boat watching on the Welland but you have convinced me it's a need not a want! Thank you!
Seriously, I was like a little kid filming this, I had such a buzz. It reminded me of my plane spotting days as a photographer. I would occasionally get that fantastic capture.
Great video I can’t believe you were that close. I will have to venture down to that section My daughter lives just down the street n never knew you could get that close wow. Thks again for showing another wonderful viewing spot ❤
To get better, you need to sit in your SeaDoo and let 'er run right over you!😂 Lock 7 is a great place - most years I come down and spend a couple of nights in the Lock 7 Motel just to watch the ships go by. Thanks for another great video Nigel.
yah i heard you got hit hard with snow ,my friend lives in Dunkirk NY and they got buried there too. we got just alittle dusting here in Stratford Ont. Stay safe.
Many years ago I was fishing on the St.Larwance and you could tell a ship was coming 1/2hr before you could see it as the water level slowly rose by 25ft or so, when the ships passed the water dropped by 50ft. I can't imagine how much power it takes to push that much water.
There is a restriction. I was in the warning area and I have click a box that says I take full responsibility. Some areas you have to keep the drone low. I use a micro drone, so it has less restrictions. But all flights are checked against NAV Canada flight rules.
Me being a Canadian think we should put an export tax on all energy going to the US, that way we would collect the money from the US importers instead of US customs collecting the money.
Nigel, would you consider taking down this video? If Welland Seaway sees this video, they will surely put up no trespassing signs and ruin it for everybody. Respectfully,

Head down here next season. I'm planning a trip to Duluth next season. Not easy to get to but I'll find away.
Didn't realize how massive these Ocean Freighters are! Great shots!
I have never been that close to a moving ship. It was a surreal moment
*Tufty!* 🥰 That was awesome. Thank you for bringing us up close and personal with the mighty Tufty! From the Pacific Northwest 🌹⚓ Salute! 🌹⚓
Up close and personal , can't get better than that , thanks
Can’t be.ieve no fence! Great for filming!
That was pretty awesome! I had no idea you could get that close in Thorold. Thanks for sharing!
Now that is awesome!! Thank you for a great video!
Well Nigel the only way to top that closeup is to jump onboard lol. Fantastic! What a shot of the prop wash.
Seriously, I was like a little kid filming this, I had such a buzz.

So cool! Great shots!! 😊
That's an awesome video love to see more!!! 😊😊😊
Brilliant video, thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video. She sailed by me in Amherstburg at about 0830 Saturday the 14th. She’s making good time.
So Beautiful and Majestic!!! Nice Catch Erie Vlogger
That was fantastic! Thank you. 👍

That was a fantastic shoot, Nigel.
I'm hungry for more action like this
You sounded as excited as I would have been Nigel.
I totally was. That was no acting. I got a buzz, as soon as i noticed it turn towards the wall my eyes widened.

That was epic! I think I have to take a trip to Thorold! ❤
That word is perfect for it "epic"
great video ,seen that ship a few times on the great lakes
Awesome video! So close you can reach out and touch it! Thank you, Nigel!
another great video my friend!
Cheers Buddy
Awesome video
I remember when lock 3 was like that. My wife and I used to put a hand on the ship and walk down the pier as long as we could
I can't believe there's no picture of him touching that big ship. Maybe he did and didn't want to get in trouble posting it.
The good old days. Now everywhere you go they have fences. Liability issues most likely.
@jefffrayer8238 no, I didn't touch it. When I filmed it looking down at the wood beam it was rubbing against, I was arm outstretched.
😮 very nice! ⚓️
Definitely epic! You could have reached out and touched the Tufty!
Talk about close. Never seen that before!
Best capture this season for me, that is up there with the Seadoo ride out to Keewatin heading into Port Colborne
I think they should install roller wheels on the walls of the locks so the ships don’t scrape along the sides and damage the hull
Just wood, I wonder if plastic wheels could do more damage.
Be interesting to hear from a Seaway worker.
Nice video Nigel!
AWSOME
Wow you got no snow over there. In Cheektowaga/Weet Seneca we got buried
yah i heard you got hit hard with snow ,my friend lives in Dunkirk NY and they got buried there too. we got just alittle dusting here in Stratford Ont. Stay safe.
Not at that location but I do at home 3 to 4 inches, Fort Erie west (Crystal beach,

Limey!
lol.
On way to work this morn an ass load of ships hovering in the port dalhousie area.. at least 7 at around 900pm on way home.. qew/jordan perspective..
Still a few there now and also at the other end.
are you allowed to toss up the drone that close to Niagara Dist. Airport?
There is a restriction. I was in the warning area and I have click a box that says I take full responsibility.

You were right first, it is 4-5-6 then 7
I get confused everytime I go there, it's like one of them is hiding
Now I know why so many of these vessels have the paint scraped off their sides.
No better Cana Be
Why do the scrapes on the front look like claw marks?!
Me being a Canadian think we should put an export tax on all energy going to the US, that way we would collect the money from the US importers instead of US customs collecting the money.
Well, maybe have your governor run that by my President Trump, Lol.
@@jefffrayer8238 Why would our prime minister have to run it by anybody?
Nigel, would you consider taking down this video? If Welland Seaway sees this video, they will surely put up no trespassing signs and ruin it for everybody.
Respectfully,
pretty soon they will be totally unmanned like self driving cars
They've been talking about that in aviation for years.
Can't see it happening. Though I can see less crew eventually.
