    Unfortunately I'm the opposite. Macro goals are totally demotivating for me, because they seem too far away. They don't seem relevant to my situation now, and I can't relate to them at all. I'm more motivated by taking little steps in a direction than big goals like that

    • @nassozeebo
      @nassozeebo 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      ”Little steps in a direction”.
      So you are motivated by macro goals. That direction is your macro goals.

    • @MightyDantheman
      @MightyDantheman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@nassozeebo While that's logically true, in this case, those macro goals would never be met on their own. It's these micro steps that are actually allowing for said motivation to exist. I think the distinction is important for that reason, and I personally find it to be true as well.

    Makes sense. I don’t have an at all clear idea of my future and I did go to this video and it is past midnight… I’ll give it some thought. Just not right now because I gotta sleep first and that will keep me up all night if I let it.

      Actually, I know what I want it’s just not realistic. I want to be able to switch between ways to make money so when I get bored of doing the same thing day in and day out I can just do something else. I guess I could just have hobbies but having to work the same job the rest of my life is a very scary thought

    This was depressing.
    I have no future family potential.
    And my life is dominated by elderly and disabled relatives.
    No wonder I'm unmotivated.
    I have no promises for the future, just persistent shackles to the past.

    The premise of this video is flawed by assuming/suggesting that people simply need to re-orient their future goal to something else material.
    The psychology of the mind suggests that being process oriented is much more impactful. The most successful people are those who love the process towards their journey.

    Ngl this idea of thinking about my future self is exactly what I naturally did as soon as I somehow found a girlfriend, who I am devoted to marry one day.
    To all my dudes out there ready for change, its either one day, or day one. Lets make it day one.

    This is a nice idea, but I don't think it's going to work for most people. I think you're basically saying envision taking care of your future family, and you will become motivated to do hard work and be disciplined. But I don't think many people get motivated, even when they presently have family to take care of.
    Instead, I think the first thing people need is energy. Then they need to start willpower training. Start light, then work their way up.
    The way I did this is first I started cyclic hyperventilation, first thing in the morning. This gives you energy, and also is an easy way to train willpower. The energy comes from adrenaline and dopamine.
    Then I started exercising. I started very, very light. I was only doing some leg bridges for like 5 minutes. This also gives you energy, and trains your willpower.
    Keep doing this and your willpower will grow; and you'll want to do more exercise and more willpower training.
    I practiced getting up a little bit earlier every day. And resisting sugar and junk food a little bit, every day. Little by little, I got better at these things, and that made me better at everything.
    There's a feedback loop, because practicing willpower gives you a dopamine boost. When you stop doing something hard, you get a dopamine boost. The harder it is, the stronger the dopamine boost. And so you want to do it again, and harder. It's not like drugs though, because it involves hard work, and the dopamine boost isn't that high.
    Eventually, I was eating healthy, and waking up early; and I started doing cold showers, first thing in the morning, instead of the hyperventilation. Cold showers are amazing. They're better than coffee. It's one of the most potent ways to train your willpower, because it's so hard to do. And after you do it, you feel awesome. Probably from all the adrenaline and dopamine. Andrew Huberman says you get a big, long lasting arc of dopamine boost, from cold plunges. Probably a much smaller, but similar effect with cold showers.
    I don't always cold shower, but I try to do 3 minutes every day. I actually probably do 3 minutes every 3 days, because there are many days where I wuss out, or feel like it would be detrimental to my health. Btw, in general, I don't think it is detrimental to your health. In fact, I think it boosts your immune system. It would be detrimental if you did it for too long, and too frequently.
    I'm not perfect. I still indulge. I have regressions. Some days I don't work out. Some days I sleep in. But overall, I'm doing quite well; and this seems to be a major part of how I got here.

    Breaking the Cycle of Motivation Problems
    Macro Motivation:
    Motivation stems from the vision of a fulfilling future.
    Focus on the well-being of your future family (spouse, kids, nieces, nephews).
    Realize that your future self is not a separate entity; you are becoming that person.
    Channel motivation from future responsibilities and love for your future family into present actions.
    Concrete Motivation:
    Live healthily to maintain long-term physical fitness and be active with your grandchildren.
    Strive for financial independence to enjoy freedom and a beautiful home in nature.
    Aim to be a good role model, an educated, capable, and happy person.
    Joy in self-improvement comes from understanding the deep emotional reasons for your efforts.
    Conclusion:
    Motivations like legacy, materialism, or fleeting achievements are less impactful.
    Focus on the emotional and long-term rewards of building a future family.
    Consider the importance of family in human life and its role in providing companionship and purpose.
    Reflect deeply on the choice of starting a family and its implications for a fulfilling life.

    So basically you need a northern star which is your future family.
    For me the northern star has always been the person or the goal that I want to be or goal that I want to achieve. Being a good father is one of them. Why only have one northern star? I want more!

    You've led me to think a lot more considerately and openly about producing offspring, than I ever have before. Also the macro motivation concept is interesting and offers insight. I have recently been aiming to shift from relying on short term inspiration/motivation. It can be strong, but fleeting and chaotic.

    • @BetterApe
      @BetterApe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Be honest.
      Train your thinking through writing.
      Make videos YOU regard as qualitative and interesting, then others will as well.
      Make sure the audio quality is good. (way more important than video quality)
      Tell good stories (e.g. from your life).
      Don't overthink.
      Fall in love with the craft and don't make yourself a slave to the numbers.
      Some spontaneous ideas, hope they help.

    • @digitreapermc
      @digitreapermc 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Overpopulation isn't a problem. Our economic system is. One-third of all the food we produce is wasted. We have more than enough food to feed everyone. We've gotten so much more efficient since the Industrial Revolution that everyone could have a good life if wealth was distributed evenly instead of having 10 richest people be richer than the poorest HALF of the planet
      We in the West are lucky because a lot of us do have the opportunity to have pretty much all we need. But this is only thanks to mass protests in the past, which have gotten us 40-hour workweeks, a minimum wage, and reduced worker exploitation in general. Today, the rich can afford to give us a high enough wage to satisfy most of our needs, thanks to the exploitation of poor countries where they can extract materials from for very cheap and have workers produce stuff for very cheap. When these exploitated countries revolt, the countries in the West will do everything they can to keep that country compliant in exploitation (mostly by supporting a dictator who allows the West to exploit the people there). This is what's happening all the time in Africa. Now, it's not a big deal nowadays because the West can easily install a dictator in a weak african country when there is no powerful enemy that's actually opposing it, like the soviet union in the cold war. In the Cold War, the Soviet Union supported the revolutions that seeked to break free from the west. That's why there was a war in Korea, in vietnam, in laos. That's why Cuba and North Korea today are completely closed off due to the sanctions from the West. Because they refused to open their country to the exploitation from the West. Now, there is much to criticize about these countries, I am not defending them, but they show that countries not open to Western exploitation will not be tolerated.
