    I’m 71 and can relate to a lot of what you’re saying about Christmas and pubs family etc. The Boot in St Albans squashed up at the bar trying to get served 🎉 😅 we (my family) used to alternate each year with my Auntie/Uncle cousins and my grandparents were there too, we had a reel to reel tape recorder (very posh back then) and would just leave it running/recording all afternoon and to play it back……well a lot of talking, laughing some drunk, lovely to listen back to but hard to decipher who was talking over the each other. But the memory I have is of my dad and grandad smoking cigars which I loved and still do if I catch the smell which is very rare these days if any. I remember going to a circus back in 1973 in Watford it’s the only one I’ve seen. That was a lovely catch up with Christmas Day tv Linda thanks for that. John Wayne my Dad’s favourite but not mine either. Look forward to your next video 😊

    I enjoyed your company today, as usual. On a scale from 1 to 10, I give Christmas a 4. My favorite part of the holiday is attending Christmas programs and concerts performed by children and young adults. I also like to exchange Christmas cards, sing Christmas hymns and worship. You joked about spreading joy, but you really do spread joy and make me laugh. Take care, Anna

    I loved hearing your Christmas likes and dislikes Linda ! For us, Christmas 'aint what it used to be, but we still enjoy ourselves (only me and hubby, we have no kids, grandkids or close family) We have been out for Christmas lunch in hotels, which is ok (no cooking or washing up 😄), or we go away on Boxing Day until New Years Eve, which is lovely. Years ago I used to go to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, and although I"m not particularly religious, I thought it was beautiful !! I also like SOME Christmas Songs, they are earworms, 🪱🪱and I wake up singing them in my head 🙄
    I like lights and decorations, Christmas candles, seeing children getting excited, lovely grub 😜,and going for a walk (weather permitting!)
    I dislike shopping, the lack of decent tv, adverts (don't know why....I find this year they are mainly awful , except Lidl 😂)

    Great video as always Linda you always manage to make me laugh. Being a hairdresser all my life, way back when everyone went to the hairdressers every week I always hated Christmas week it was so busy . I was always happy when Christmas Eve was on a Sunday as you couldn’t open in them days . Other wise it was up very early some shops I worked in would open at 6am and work till about 4. Then I’d go out clubbing in Liverpool, walk half way home before you got a taxi and felt half dead on Christmas Day !! Loved Christmas as a child have very happy memories of those days and remember most of the programs you mentioned. My hubby and I have been together 30 years the 1st 16 years he was a shift worker so Christmas for us was very different depending on what shift he was on. I think he only had about 3 Christmas days off in all them years. I remember he worked 7 New Year’s Eve’s on the trot. Obviously since he retired things are different he’s just glad them days are over in all he did 37 years of shifts . Opposite us there is a block of flats , one flat has a Christmas tree lit up every night of the year it’s like one of the tube ones with like flashing lights running through it with a star on the top everyone to there own I guess. Hi Linda, it was fun to hear your perspective on the joys and otherwise, of Christmas. music That's a favourite for me and I find myself humming along tunelessly as I'm shopping, even the dreaded Slade's 'And here it is, Merry Christmas, everybody's having fun' which ought really to be flung in room 101, and I do readily acknowledge isn't true and I'm sure could make the vulnerable feel suicidal it's so dreary and hackneyed. ( I have to be a bit careful about Christmas myself as it's apt to be a tricky time for me too, because of past wounds.) But I do love the run up to Christmas, more than Christmas itself. The markets, the dark and cold afternoons, and yes, I adore fairy lights. I love their twinkle, and I put them up anywhere I can. I have a memory though, from childhood, of real candles on the Christmas tree. Absolutely unthinkable nowadays because it's so dangerous, but that's how it was at home. Little candy twist candles in clip on holders. And of course the tree was a real one. They were only lit on Christmas afternoon and mum stood by to supervise closely with a bucket of water and an old blanket, just in case. It was actually magical as the lights were turned off and the only light in the room was the tree candles and the glow and flicker of a real coal fire. I've asked so many people, but I can't find anyone else who remembers this. Even people of a similar age all seemed to have had electric tree lights. Well you've piqued my interest in Christmas a bit more than was the case, so thank you very much.... See you next time!

Whether Christmas or the rest of the year the main 5 channels are so old hat. They really do need to buck up the offerings!! Sadly I am that person who sorts the decorations into colour order, in separate boxes, labelled with colour and room/tree they belong too. Hi Linda..as you mentioned Christmas is all about memories throughout your life. In recent years I’ve been fascinated about different traditions , my daughter in law for instance has been brought up to open her presents at 4pm..how could she wait that long as a child but she has passed that tradition on to her children. My son in law didn’t eat Christmas lunch until late afternoon I’m afraid we’ve changed that 😂 but everyone has their own traditions set in stone don’t they? I had no idea how to cook a turkey when I got married, my Mum told me to leave it in a very low oven overnight. My oven was super efficient when I opened the door the turkey was waving a white flag!! Great video Linda, you’re always entertaining. 🎄 x

    Hi from an American subscriber. Describe for me the Top of the Pops tv show-all the musicians you mentioned didn’t perform live, on stage for the Christmas program, did they? We had American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark in the 1960s, he introduced live acts for the teenage audience to dance to but usually only one band per episode. Was that show imported to the UK? As far as I know Top of the Pops was not aired on USA tv. I still say our generation has the best music (I’m 69). Mary

    • @LindaTee70
      @LindaTee70  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mary and thank you for subscribing and watching!
      Top of the Pops was a tv pop music show televised from the1964 to the mid 2000s, featuring artists in the UK charts. There was also a studio audience that would dance along to the music! Radio DJs of the time were the presenters. There was a chart countdown.
      Some of the performers would be in the studio (usually lip syncing) and others would appear on film or videos.
      EVERYONE in the UK would tune in!!
      I've heard of American Bandstand but don't think it was televised on a regular basis in the UK. Hope this explains it?!
