When I was 5 years old,my grandfather was taken me to Schiff's concert. It was my first meeting with the sound of cello. I Said" I wanna play this instrument. Only this one" Now,I'm 48. Still playing cello. Music is my life. ❤️ Thanks granddad
My grandpa was a violin maker and as a kid I was in his shop choosing which string instrument I want to learn, I chose the cello, studied music, worked in an opera orchestra. I quit cello and now I play rock music on my drum kit, but Heinrich Schiff was always my hero. Did you study cello and became a professional cellist or only for hobby?
Man, I love Schiff. He's such a poet, nothing artificial, just superb ideas conveyed clearly with all the artistry required. Also, I love that he doesn't look the "prototype" cellist- short arms, thick hands. Doesn't matter, he finds a away.
The thing about Schiff is that whatever he plays, he never makes himself the star but always the music. There is nothing he does to make himself the center of attention. That is also why his Brahms with Zimmermann is my favorite recording of the Double Concerto. I have yet to come across one that more perfectly functions as a duet of two superstars who subordinate themselves to the chamber music aspects. Their adaptation to each other’s character of playing creates the perfect continuity in the passing back and forth of the lead role.
Ah . . . The tormenting beauty of a schizophrenic Schumann . . . I have searched the 'cello world over for the best contemporary interpretation of the insanity of emotions depicted in this concerto. Impeccable interpretation between RaRo - Floristan- Eusebius. And, the stamina required to keep the anguish mounting to its final climatic ending. Bravo, maestro Schiff !
Funny....because I was JUST NOW hearing the Intermezzo of Faschingsschwank aus Wien....and must confess that I too am a schizophrenic.......AND SO AM I!
@@hansleber6090 Does not seem to truly express the music. And looks kinda poseurish and, even confusing for the players. Would you enjoy playing under him or with him? I wouldn't. But, I of course admit that, in music, everything is just one's subjective, individual opinion.
Air conditioning or not, that's exactly what happens when music is played exactly as a lover would approach his mistress, exactly as Schumann did with the cello, when he composed this concerto. The result, was an excellent performance and everybody went for a nice shower afterwards.

Schumanns Piano- and Cello concerto are both incredible masterpieces.

Durfte Schiff mit Schumanns Konzert live in München erleben. Hat sich mir unauslöschlich ins Herz gebrannt. Tiefsten Dank!

Qué gran interpretación!!
La intensidad de este concierto para cello llevada al límite.
Gigante Heinrich Schiff.
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for everything, Maestro. May you rest in peace.
So much passion in his music, beautiful phrasing!
Great cellist, great Schumann. Acceptable conducting.
Actually, I would even say the conductor sucks. Schumann is a genius - and so is Maestro Heinrich Schiff.
Why is the conducting bad?

Herrliche Ausfuerung von Schumann und von seinem aussererdlichen Konzert
3:12 - He shifts on the A string up to the B-flat? That's insane.
