You'll notice that Kelly addresses every person she talks to by their name. I ran lights for a local band that opened for R.Ring, and I introduced myself to Kelly at soundcheck, and she remembered my name and called me by my name all of that day and all of that night, and by the end of the night I actually felt like we were old pals, I felt like I was in a dream. The Deal sisters are a national treasure, I adore them both so much!
I love the Deal sisters. I agree with someone below: They're national treasures. Josephine is cool as well. The Breeders are a band that will always remain authentic and not lose their chemistry as many bands do as they get older...A very interesting rig rundown
And in it for the right reasons, gigs in 2022 they still seem to really enjoy playing with each other rather than just going through the motions for the cash.
I hung out with Kelly in 1997 at Gilly's in Dayton, OH. I was there to see GBV but also love the Breeders. I was surprised how nice and talkative she was with us. I remember she said GBV were always late taking the stage and we're always out of tune. Lol. She was really nice and cool
I met Kim and Kelly at a ACLU benefit my band was playing around that time in Cincy at Top Cats they were so cool we talked music and such for quite awhile till the awestruck made it unbearable, Kelly mentioned Gillys.
And I was at that lalapalooza!! The GOLD AND PURPLE swishing in the twilight as the sun went down over Mt. View Ca was one of the best memories and musical experiences of my youth.
I can admit that I didn't think this would be my favorite rundown, cause I didn't remember the breeders having much gear to rundown, but that was hilarious and somehow heartwarming. Kelly Deal just made my day.
The thing I've always liked about the Breeders is how their music is so bass driven, af Josephine is VERY underrated as a bassist. She has great chops without a lot of pretentious fills. Same with Kelley and Kim's guitar playing. Very stylish yet simple. The simplicity is the beauty of their music.
shows how much knowledge you accumulate over the years on the road. not many willing to share the stories, the reasons, the desires, the annoyances. and with such good humour
I've been watching Rig Rundowns for years and Kelley is one of the best interviewees yet. Very personable. I still have the same Last Splash CD I bought back in '93. Great tunes on that one!
Not sure I've seen/heard an interview with Kelly before, but she's so charming and funny here. A rare example of a rock star you think you could actually be mates with :)
Nice! This has helped our guitarist, Shawn, with transitioning between his Johnny Marr Jaguar and his bilT Zaftig. Thanks Kelley and Premier Guitar! We love you.
They both talk about Lolla '94, which was the first concert I ever went to at age 14. I don't remember a thing about the gold instruments but that's where I was introduced to The Breeders, playing in broad daylight, and it's easily one of my fondest live music memories Another was seeing the Kelley Deal 6000 in this craphole of a room, on the 3rd floor of this narrow building in Pittsburgh, where the guitarist had to stomp the stage sometimes when his pickup cut out, and there were about 9 people in the "audience" and they still played their hearts out. Bought a copy of the Sugar Altar album on my way out and listened to it constantly for months. Trixie Delicious is still in my top-2 all-time songs to annoy people with the fact that I love it
I love how they create the music they do with the most basic equipment. it's inspiring, actually. Kelley is my favorite. Can't wait to see them in a couple months!
Great fun episode !...love these young ladies !!! Saw them a couple times along this tour and they rock and sound better than ever; they just have a certain magic and power going on, they just GOT IT.
Kelley is articulate and hilarious. It is fun to listen to her anecdotes and backstories. She is also pleasant and caring towards everyone. Kim is a little more introverted and private. They strike a balance as sisters with polar opposite personalities. No wonder Kelley explained how they grew up and wrote music together most of the time and Kim only made brief comments to support Kelley’s stories in their documentary.
I love rig rundown. I don't have to be into the artist they're showcasing to enjoy them. John Bollinger is my favorite host. It's like he was born to do this gig. but I do enjoy the breeders ;)
I had a 90's Strat ...with the roller nut and lace sensors..man I loved how that played. The Deal sisters are so chatty and bubbly. Man, I would love to hang out with them for an evening, they'd be a load of fun.
I ran a 77 Sunburst red Ricky , a great piece of wood man, and OH how I love the Kimness x Breeders and pixies are astonishing x have fun people !!!! 😀
I just saw Kelley Deal touring with the band protomartyr. That band is already incredible instrumentally but Kelley brought their live sound to a whole new level.
Can’t understand why the dislikes. She’s honest about stuff, and entertaining. Elucidative, too. He’s a good interviewer. And when people talk about things like depression people call them negative. But disliking stuff for no reason on the internet, seems like a okay thing to do. Internet is really a sad, sad place.
I was lucky enough to see them open for Nirvana in Miami in 1993. The Breeders were amazing, and the mosh pit was legendary 🙌🏼🤘🏼💙 I've actually gotten to rewatch that concert recently thanks to someone uploading a copy. The early 90s was a hell of a time to be a teenager 😉🤘🏼
What an interesting and fun rig rundown! Kelley rules. Dude REALLY wanted to take a closer look at Kim's gold top. I would also love to see a video talking about the history of that special guitar. It's played in the Pixies (Kim loaned it to Joey for at least the first few albums), it's been in the Breeders played by Kim (Cannonball), Kelley, Tonya (from Belly), and even Josaphine plays it on a song. It was used in the Amps and pretty sure I saw it in a Dinosaur Jr video (dude produced a Breeders album) and might even possibly be the original guitar sample on the song Fire Starter from The Prodigy (even though live Kelley usually plays her red and green Fender Strat). Think of all the hits on that thing!
Listen to some retrospectives on the early years, pre-Come on Pilgrim/Surfer Rosa with Joey and he told some stories bout how he abused the shit out of Kim's guitar before he got his own.
I used to rock a JCM 900 tank back in the day too. It''s weird too think that they're now vintage. It's cool to see older bands and artists use newer gear too. I love Earthquaker Devices pedals.
I do that a lot. There are bands and guitarists I'm not really into or don't know very well, but I'm also a bit nosey and like to know what people use. Of course the best ones tend to be when the bands themselves talk gear and know how it works, or know why things do what they need them to do.
@6:17 she disses my hometown of Olympia, Washington where I grew up from 1971 to 1982 and again 1987 to 1989 when "grunge" became a word. I finally graduated from The Evergreen State College in the midst of all the "Indy" music movement, listening every morning to the campus radio station "KAOS" which played a lot of Indy bands like The Meat Puppets, The Melvins, Sonic Youth, etc. I also had a girlfriend from Aberdeen high school where Kurt Cobain sporadically attended and lived under the now famous bridge. I moved to Seattle for the 2nd time in 1989 and started working for Microsoft, which had a refreshingly TESC-ish (The Evergreen State College) ethos and vibe in those grassroots bohemian-bourgeois days. But Olympia, was always my home base and my sainted Mother still lives there, so please take it easy with Oly. ;-)
Love the passion from this rig rundown. I don’t know this band but I’m gonna look them up. Keep bringing in artists who love talking about gear. Thanks PG!
2:21 many people don't know, but Kurt said in an interview that The Breeders were a big influence in the recording of Nevermind, so she's very humble to tell the story like that.
The best part of this whole video is seeing all the "cheat sheets," i.e. the taped-on notes to self on where everything should be set (those of us who also run minimal a/o old school rigs know this well). She's one of the coolest and most unique guitar players around, too.
A JCM 900... I have one too and love it. lots of great textures available and plenty loud. Probably a little different and less dark than the 800 but man, much loved. Some folks put crap on 'em but I think they're great.
Love Josephine's personal linoleum-looking rug! At first I thought it was truly linoleum, but then noticed towards the amp you can see the carpet texture.
Saw the Breeders on Lollapalooza in 94 and then again a few weeks ago, both times in Montreal. I really liked the show and was wondering if the carpet was the band's. Now I know. Thanks Kelly and Josephine for sharing.
I love that afterneath pedal. Love the breeders Kelley and Kim RULE I wish I could find some sound bytes of them doing the old hank senior stuff. That’d be so cool! Love the newer album. I could tell this guy isn’t too used to someone like Kelley. Lol kinda funny chemistry.
Hi there! Just wanted to talk to someone who has actually met Kelly (or Kim). Please say hi back :) that's all you need to say. Thanks!
top comment!
What a cool person dude, I dig that
They are very polite to people. I noticed that in the online interviews. And always giving honest and interesting answers.
Professional
Kelly Deal being an absolute regular gear head, and one of the most polite and quirky people to interview. She seems like a lot of fun.
Jesus - what a airhead
Kelley Deal is one of your best guests! She talks to the audience as much as the host and is very funny and energetic. Great interview!
"The following year i quit the job and toured with Nirvana" Shit, man! How many people could ever say that
Kelley Deal is impossible not to love.
So cute, something about a girl wielding a guitar and the talent element- very sexy.
I love how Kelley is kind of like a big kid at heart.
It does my heart good to see Kelly looking so good and healthy. Her personality is so infectious.
Kelly is one of the most charismatic people ever on a rig rundown. Scrap that - the most charismatic
Great rundown! Kelly’s enthusiasm is infectious. So down to earth and funny.
Never Meet Your Heroes? Kelley is genuine, well-spoken and everything I had hoped. ❤️
Kelly's rundown was hilarious! I saw them on the Lollapalooza tour back in 94. They were awesome. And LOUD.
Wasn't it cloudy and rainy as shit there?
Saw them at Palooza in Atlanta and opening for Nirvana in Birmingham.
So much love for the Deal Sisters, it's bursting out of me always.
She worked as Defense Contractor because she and her sister are bona fide literal geniuses
what a beautiful lady. i could watch/listen to her forever.
And I was at that lalapalooza!! The GOLD AND PURPLE swishing in the twilight as the sun went down over Mt. View Ca was one of the best memories and musical experiences of my youth.
this is the funniest rig rundown i've seen in a long time. and btw she is still sooo cute it's insane. keep rockin
totaly had the hots for kym and kelly still do
I can admit that I didn't think this would be my favorite rundown, cause I didn't remember the breeders having much gear to rundown, but that was hilarious and somehow heartwarming. Kelly Deal just made my day.

Same with Kelley and Kim's guitar playing. Very stylish yet simple. The simplicity is the beauty of their music.
always felt that way about Kim's bass playing in Pixies - it's just everything a bass is supposed to be without anything annoying added on
Kim and Josephine are both absolute goddesses of bass. ❤
shows how much knowledge you accumulate over the years on the road. not many willing to share the stories, the reasons, the desires, the annoyances. and with such good humour
I adore how amazingly quirky Kelly is. What a fun person.
I just fell in love with Kelley. Oh my god.
ahh we all have that moment...mine was catching the breeders play and managing to make eye contact with her!!!....
Had to stop this in the middle of the way to say: best Rig Rundown this year so far. Kelley cracks me up man.
"I got it as a Christmas gift."
Then the smile.
That was the moment I fell in love with Kelly Deal.
I love her sense of humour.
by far one of the most entertaining rundowns I've seen. I love these gals
This is one of the best episodes ever!
Kim and Kelly Deal- thee coolest sisters ever!
One of my favorite videos ever. I could watch Kelley Deal talking about gear for hours
I love that all those stories are so much cooler than any music gear they use. Love this video!
I've been watching Rig Rundowns for years and Kelley is one of the best interviewees yet. Very personable. I still have the same Last Splash CD I bought back in '93. Great tunes on that one!
Bass players are always the quiet ones... Love this cast all around!!!
I love bands like this , so real and down to earth !!!
Not sure I've seen/heard an interview with Kelly before, but she's so charming and funny here. A rare example of a rock star you think you could actually be mates with :)
"JOSH!" "JOOOOOOOOOSH" Love that woman.
IMPEDANCE!
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA that was totally great! Poor Josh doesn't wanna get caught on camera :P
She's so funny
@@carlos__z when i saw them in NYC Josh came out and played a song
Enjoyable interview. Kelly really seems like a great person!
Nice! This has helped our guitarist, Shawn, with transitioning between his Johnny Marr Jaguar and his bilT Zaftig. Thanks Kelley and Premier Guitar! We love you.

Wow. She's cute, she's funny, and most importantly she knows her shit. Thanks for this video!
I love how they create the music they do with the most basic equipment. it's inspiring, actually. Kelley is my favorite. Can't wait to see them in a couple months!
The Breeders certainly have a very distinctive sound in every way you can expect. The tones, drums, effects, vocals, and harmony.
Great fun episode !...love these young ladies !!! Saw them a couple times along this tour and they rock and sound better than ever; they just have a certain magic and power going on, they just GOT IT.
Josephine speaks sooooo slowlyyyyy... it took her forever to finish that story about the Fender. Love them, great RR!
Kelley is articulate and hilarious. It is fun to listen to her anecdotes and backstories. She is also pleasant and caring towards everyone. Kim is a little more introverted and private. They strike a balance as sisters with polar opposite personalities. "Other than the abuse, it's all stock" John is hilarious!
I ran a 77 Sunburst red Ricky , a great piece of wood man, and OH how I love the Kimness x Breeders and pixies are astonishing x have fun people !!!! 😀
@ 19:45 Kelly sneaking off stage and getting confused where to go is pretty funny!
I was just going to post the same thing! Glad I read through the comments first!
Always loved their guitars sounds. Such great basic hard rock and roll.
The most entertaining rig run down I've ever seen!
Saw them Thursday night (Sep 27, 2018) and this rundown really ties the room together. Take that advice to go see their show, Breeders are essential.
Dont really know to much about The Breeders, but still watched the entire rundown. Great video and great people!
I do that a lot.

Thank you for your service Kelly

I play a Fender Jazz and a Rickenbacker 4001 but absolutely love the Fender Jaguar bass XXX
Kelly is so lovely! She has aged well.
LMFAO at Kelley Deal comedy creeping by in the background at 19:40
"i love the whole DIY thing ya know...that you just...yaa do it." well said john
lmfao
great to have Kelly & Josephine here!
They are absolutely awesome. classic smiles.. always
Saw them last weekend. Kelley and the Hall of Fame are still dating!
So glad you got your strat back, Kelley. I've only seen that happen once for another player in my 30 years of playing.
Billy Corgan got his stolen guitar back after 27 years!
Love the passion from this rig rundown. I don’t know this band but I’m gonna look them up. Keep bringing in artists who love talking about gear. Thanks PG!
Josue Samaniego dude..plz do, best band ever
you're in for a treat! The Breeders are amazing music.
Good Lord, she's so cool it hurts. Rock goddess.
I love her! She’s so cool.
Oh my god I've fallen in Love with her all over again again.
2:21 many people don't know, but Kurt said in an interview that The Breeders were a big influence in the recording of Nevermind, so she's very humble to tell the story like that.
It’s interesting just how different Kim and Kelley are as twins. I don’t know them personally but their interviews are such unique personalities.
Ths is my Strat - - -Ocaster XD
wow she's cool love her!
The best part of this whole video is seeing all the "cheat sheets," i.e. the taped-on notes to self on where everything should be set (those of us who also run minimal a/o old school rigs know this well). She's one of the coolest and most unique guitar players around, too.
This is my favorite rig down I've ever seen
Here's the thing... sometimes... most times the point is not your gear or jargon but what serves the sound in your head!
How much fun was this rig run down, great fun
That Stolen Strat should become a heavily distressed signature custom shop model.
This was fascinating.
Damn, I really wanted to see Kim's acoustic rig. She distorts her acoustic guitar and it sounds dope AF.
Agreed. I was wondering if it was a pedal or just that she plugs into a marshall.
I’m so glad to see Kelley so healthy. Rough road for her. She’s a trip.
I saw Breeders in São Paulo and that was lots of fun on stage and audience!
I absolutely LOVE the Deal Sisters!! 😍😍😙😙
Kelley is great. I love the Breeders
I'm super into history of the bands. I like the back story.
Love the Breeders....this rig rundown kicks ass
A JCM 900... I have one too and love it. lots of great textures available and plenty loud. Probably a little different and less dark than the 800 but man, much loved. Some folks put crap on 'em but I think they're great.
Damn some basic equipment proves the point of it’s the player not the equipment
I love you Kelley!!

Kelly is super cool!
16:42 Jim (off camera): “Guitar players suck!”
Kelly: “SHUT UP, JIM! Drummers!”
😂
