Actually, making sure the fabric is 'on the bias' at the toe, will make it more cooperative as it will stretch and shrink much more easily without wrinkles because of the way the woven threads will be laying.
I use to cover shoes about fifteen years ago and around Mother's Day I would be swamped with orders. Back then I did not know much about what to use to put the fabric on. I used Fabri-Tac glue and it worked well. Glad to see this video and it gave me a new way to do it. Thanks for sharing and great job. Oh yeah, doing it the way I did them was messy too but the end result was worth it and same here. Just beautiful.
Stitching up a single layer ' belt carrier' like strip of fabric to glue over the 'seam' at the back will give a more 'professional' look to your finished product. Oh, I really have to try covering some shoes now. Can't wait to find the shoe/fabric to work with! Using those big black paper clamps would help keep your fabric straight along the sides as you smooth out the toe. Great video. I have a lot of shoes in a bag set to go off to Goodwill that I think I will take another look at. Also, I sew for myself. It's great to be able to make matching or coordinating shoes to go with - using scraps! Thanks for making it so easy!

Gosh. I have no idea on low temperatures. I live in the Gold Coast Australia. Sub Tropical. The coldest we get is around 9 degrees for maybe a few days in winter. LOL

+Laveta Bell Ji Laveta. I did not put any more Modge Podge on the shoe. You can of course, but I found that the fabric was stuck well and truly and I didn't think it needed any more.
I covered my shoes for period dancing so that they matched the gown. I made a paper pattern first, then cut between sole and upper to half a centimetre in, so that the fabric could be glued between upper and sole. I also cut the fabric on the bias so that it would conform better. I only used glue for the sole part and the overlap to the inside of the shoe. The rest I sewed. They need to stand up to Playford Dancing, and they do. Not tried Mod Podge. May give it a go next time. The glue I used was Bostic 1

I must admit I was confused at first until you picked up the Awl (all) cos I expected a different tool. Great job on those shoes. Great idea to lengthen the life of comfy shoes, mine are the most comfy when hey are falling apart so to get more use out of them is great!

Using an exacta knife at the end. Use lightly as they are also and mainly used as box cutters.by cutting sideways instead of straight on she is able to tuck at the same time but you must be experienced with the correct pressure so as not to cut the shoe.

Yes you can purchase the Mod Podge from my website at the shop. the details are in the video. I love using my machine to sew. I have never considered using glue to make clothes. I am not sure how that would go. Very messy I would imagine.
I didn’t read all of the comments. So you may have answered this. Have you had trouble with glue unstick in after accidental moisture . . . walking through wet grass?I know you could reglue. I find that cotton works best. I used 100% quilting cotton on the animal print. But the other ones were just a fabric I had in my stash. I think it was part polyester. But it worked fine as well. Mod Podge is machine washable after 72 hours. So getting wet is not an issue. Like any shoes they will become worn over time. cheers

It is a standard tailors awl. It does not have a sizing on the packet. It is about 12.5 cm (5in) long. Sharp point. The stanley knife is from my garage and is probably about 30 years old.

Mod Podge glue is the same as Elmers if i'm correct.. So if you were to get them wet (rain).. you're fabric would come right off... Not that i'm trying to be critical because I think it's a terrific idea and you do a beautiful job.. but would there be a glue that would work as well that would not come off if gotten wet?
Ok.. I just read: Mod Podge is glue, but it's also a sealer - and there are varnishes, etc. in the formula that don't exist in craft glues:... I use craft glue (elmers mainly) to cover boxes with fabric and it's removed easily with just a wet cloth after drying on my work surface. Since I now understand the difference, I plan to purchase ModPodge and try my hand at covering shoes. Thanks for the reply and you do a beautiful job.
Would the glue adhere better if the shoes leather had been roughened with a bit of sandpaper? And I think those shoes would look really sassy with a bright red heel. . ...

I am not sure if it would work on leather YaYa. I have never tried that. Perhaps you could trial using the Mod Podge on leather and attaching to something else first.

I don't wear my covered shoes in the rain or get them wet. So I can't answer that question as to whether they are ruined by getting wet.
I just read the jar it comes in. It is machine washable after 72 hours. So I do not think the fabric would come off with a little rain.
Ok.. I just read: Mod Podge is glue, but it's also a sealer - and there are varnishes, etc. in the formula that don't exist in craft glues:... I use craft glue (elmers mainly) to cover boxes with fabric and it's removed easily with just a wet cloth after drying on my work surface. Since I now understand the difference, I plan to purchase ModPodge and try my hand at covering shoes. Thanks for the reply and you do a beautiful job.

Would the glue adhere better if the shoes leather had been roughened with a bit of sandpaper? And I think those shoes would look really sassy with a bright red heel. . ...
No sure about the leather bit. Try it and see.
..... Have you ever done one with tissue just to make a pattern? Also, have you ever done one with heavy duty muslin?, or painted a pair with fabric paint?

LOL No. It is just that most of my clients are from Australia (where I live) the USA, Canada and UK. Of course I could sit there and reel off the other countries in the world. But what would be the point?

I am not sure if it would work on leather YaYa. I have never tried that. Perhaps you could trial using the Mod Podge on leather and attaching to something else first.
YaYa If using real leather contact rubber cement is awesome. It bonds leather perfectly. If using a faux leather my recommendation would be E6000
