You are actually correct mayanne. It's just an uncommon way of phrasing the statement.
You could also say,
"Please take care of your boss because he is one in a million."
Stating that he is a boss and an employer is redundant. They mean similar things, unless you are referring to him as owning the company. Then it would be easier understood as him being the company owner. Typically though you wouldn't say it that way.. you could use synonyms for the phrase such as unique, special, extraordinary, admirable, etc.
Sorry if this seems tedious or unneeded. I just wanted to resolve the possible confusion.
