    I know this was just an extra video that you weren't necessarily intending to put out. But I'm glad you did. It actually shows what a nice shelf you can build with not a TON of effort. I know someone could watch another channel that concentrates on woodworking. But it's nice to see a build specific to our Hobby needs.

      Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. I think the thing with a project like this is that while it is a woodworking project, but you don't need to be a woodworker to get it done. Plus, who doesn't need more shelves? haha. Thank you again.
      Take care and all the best.

    As I have little to no woodworking skill I am always envious when someone does a build like this and its not a wobbly nightmare. ;-) I may have to take a stab at something smaller - my current workspace is overrun with paint racks. Cheers!

      Oh man, you should. This is really just a build as you go and make things fit type of project. So long as you take the things slowly that need to be taken slowly (measuring, cutting, gluing and screwing), double check these things before you do them haha, and you should be ok. I had pretty much every piece cut before I screwed or nailed anything in place (I just cut and dry fitted the pieces to test everything before assembly). I started cutting and placing like you see in the video, and ended up with a decent sturdy shelf in the end. Using the spacers for doing the shelves is another important step, as this ensures your shelves are square and level. I'm happy to help in anyway I can if you decide to have a go at this man. Hit me up if you need a hand. Cheers.

    It's a good thing if someone has some spare wood. But man, wood is so expensive in these days that it's probably cheaper to get few shelves from Ikea than try to make something of your own.
    The biggest advantage on this project (which I absolutely love btw) is that U can build it for your needs and equipment u already have (or planning to have in close future).
    Nice work mate.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers. I totally agree that it's hard to justify building over buying these days. Bookshelves are a perfect example, I can't build them for what I can buy them for, it's crazy. Having said that though, a custom shelf for something like paints, tools, or a collection of items, will save tons of space, and give you better access to everything daily for the rest of your life :) Sometimes it's worth it.
      Thanks for the comment mate, take care and all the best.

    Yeah, he is back! Nice job with that shelf. Maybe a little varnish would suit it even better, but I don't know how harmful the odour can be for you.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers John. I left it uncoated for now, but I can easily still hit it with a finish (so long as I don't leave it too long and it gets marked and dirty I suppose). It doesn't look too bad with the natural look, but it would be very nice with a little varnish as you suggested. I'll keep you posted if I decide to take it any further. Thanks.

    I searched this as I’m keen on building pretty much exactly the same type of mini paint rack. I don’t have many tools though. (Or manly skills). Just a drill. I think Bunnings can cut things to size if I need it. Hopefully.
    I also thought of using those 90 degree shelving brackets for support. Though now that I’ve watched this I think I’ll just follow your vid along and hopefully not mess it up!

    • @terrydactyl2077
      @terrydactyl2077 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thought I’d add. I was thinking instead of the little lip you did at the bottom of the shelves. The bit to help the bottles not fall off. My idea was to put wire along each shelf maybe an inch high. Like that thick metal wound wire. Not sure though.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey man, thanks for the comments and sorry for my late reply here. You could certainly go for the wire, but you might find it sags across the length of the shelves without some extra support in there, probably still work ok though. If you want to try and put the lip on there, I suggest just grabbing some balsa wood from Bunnings and using that, you'll have to keep the lip fairly small because the balsa wood is not strong, but this would be a cheap and easy way to make those without any tools besides a craft knife. Just paint the balsa with some PVA glue and give it a very light sanding, and it should hold up ok over time.
      Let me know if I can help further mate. Thanks.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure man. Like I said in the video, I built this up around the size of the backing sheet, so it shouldn't present too much problem making it a different size/design. I might do another smaller one so I can mount it on the wall and display some minis one day. Thanks for comment mate, let me know if I can help with your build. Cheers.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks mate. This build should be scalable to whatever you need for your paint stash. But I have to warn you, it really doesn't take long for things to slowly grow out of the size of whatever you make haha. This thing is the absolute largest I would want for something like this, so I don't know where I go from here :). Although I have been tinkering with the idea of making something like this only smaller, and wall mountable so that I can display miniatures in. I think something like that would go well on a wall in here, and also help to move some of my miniatures out of the way haha.
      Let me know if you decide to have a go at this and have any questions. I'm happy to help if I can. Take care.

    This is nice but in the states this would be pretty expensive. Lumber prices are crazy.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I have heard that quite a bit. I wouldn't say the stuff is exactly cheap here in Australia either, all up this costs roughly AU$60-70 to make with all off the shelf materials. I do have the advantage of having some tools to be able to cut down some of my timber, so I can buy larger stock at a cheaper price and cut that down, although that is only saving me probably 10-15% at the most. Making something like this still works though, because I wouldn't be able to find something like this if I tried to buy it. But if I needed a bookshelf for example, it would honestly be cheaper to go and buy one these days given the prices for timber, which is just so stupid to me.
      Thanks for the comment mate. Take care and all the best.
