    I love Bubby’s explorative nature. He’s pretty fearless and I wish more musicians were like that. Sick jam

    Bunny has two faces when he plays, either he's trying to figure out how to solve a difficult math problem, or he looks at his bass like its a creature that speaks to him and causes him to hallucinate butterfly's above him. There is no in between.

    Apparently some people were expecting hip hop beats when they saw "drum and bass."

    Bubby has super chops however I’m not fond of his lack Of Groov! I’ve never seen him simply groov

    When today's musicians start making grooves that people can sing in the shower, it'll be timeless music!!

      Timeless music is timeless to those who find it timeless. I don’t know if you understand unconventional harmonies or odd time signatures but this guy can play absolutely anything!!!!! You should just try an appreciate it for what it is. “Art”!!!!

    Fun for him to play but not for the audience imo.

      I agree if the audience hates jazz

    Jazz = play anything and no one will know if you making mistake or meant to do that.

    • @ericsearcy2567

      You must not know music to make that bold of a statement 🤔

      @@ericsearcy2567 I studied piano at age of 8 and then later guitar. Think of Jazz as free form array of notes that don't need to make sense just like modern dance when compared to ballet. Structured vs not structured.

      mrBDeye with all due respect, that is a terrible analogy. With all art forms ( with the exception of “visual art “) there is a prerequisite and rudimentary requirement to be considered “proficient” in your area of study !!! If you studied jazz you would know that it’s an art form that is partly defined by its use of complex rhythms and harmony. I find that the people who criticize jazz are often people with a less sophisticated musical pallet. A better analogy would be comparing a piece of cheese on a cracker to caviar on a baguette.Jazz is not considered the last American art form “ for no reason. It exhausts every theoretical possibility in music while still maintaining a beauty in and of itself. I suggest you ingest it in small doses if you wanna understand it. I love this stuff man, don’t knock it till you try it 😉

    • @mrBDeye

      @@ericsearcy2567 Jazz is free form and doesn't follow any of the rules we find in classical, baroque, or modern day rock. If you can read sheet music you will know the difference is clear.

    • @ericsearcy2567
      @ericsearcy2567 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mrBDeye it feels like you may not know your history. Saying that jazz is free form is very much a blanket statement. Artists like dizzy and Charlie Parker only played outside of the set harmony because it’s what they heard inside of there Heads and they had to get it out. And this wasn’t until the late 50s early 60s, jazz had been around since the 30s, which means that there was jazz that predates bebop. Jazz is a literal language that has to be learned just like English or Japanese. How can you speak if you don’t know the language? Classical music is composed sheet music written out for a master musician to play. The only difference in jazz is that your expected to be able to compose spontaneously in response to the harmonic structures in front of you.But there are definitely rules that have to be followed in order for the music to swing. So when you say free form I have absolutely no idea what you mean. Please elaborate.

    To untrained ears it sounded just like a mess clueless jam but to my ears it sounded very much like a mess clueless jam.hah

    Amazing skill and musical knowledge, but just sounds like random notes with no groove or melody, at least imo

    • @ericsearcy2567
      @ericsearcy2567 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      NZ Bassist he established the "head of the groove" early on. You have to listen, listen,listen!! This is exactly why people have so much trouble enjoying jazz, its truly music for the listener. Bubby is playing ideas that suggest certain chords, if you "listen" you can hear the changes!! What's most impressive though is his ability to lock in with the drummer, play very beautiful and sophisticated changes and still get back to the top of the groove! Genius man!!!
