Honestly I really like the way it portrays Batman. He’s clearly not invincible, but he’s still a badass not only as a combatant, but as a detective. He commonly uses his intellect throughout the comic in realistic ways that fits in the story, and not just him pulling something out his ass like in a lot of other Batman media. It also shows he’s still not invincible with him getting tricked near the end and not just being able to instantly take out the xenomorphs. If this was put in the hands of a few modern Batman writers they would’ve had it Bruce figures out the lie instantly and that getting hit in the back of the head was a part of his master plan.
ya know. the concept of a xenomorph is scarier than batman could ever be. also whoever did the thumbnail/title card: thank you for my nightmares the next week. xenobat. plus the intro nightmare is still scary to me. facehuggers and chestbursters are a far worse way to die than a gunshot from a lowlife thug.
So whatever movie in any timeline that Bruce and his parents watch before his parents' death determines that world's theme or crossover with? BATMAN: He can even crossover over with Scooby Doo?
There is an Aztec weapon with a similar function to the sword; the macuhital. It’s essentially a long, flat club with shards of obsidian on its sides, but its appearance is pretty distinct from what Batman picked up.
A note about that sword. Back in those days the Mayans made "swords" that had sharpened pieces of sharpened obsidian sticking out of a wooden body to form teeth. The thing is, that image makes it look like the sword is a solid chunk of metal, with teeth along the edge.
That sword actually does look kind of like a common mesoamerican weapon - I forget the name but it was basically a club (or, more fittingly for this comic, a bat) with obsidian blades embedded along the edge
I was going to say the same thing, the Aztec one is the macuahuitl, but those typically have obsidian chips in the wooden blade. Ones with teeth are from what I remember typically from Micronesia.
After he tossed the facehugger into the charsm, he should've said: -There's one more piece of evidence, Alfred, (points to his own head) and it must also be destroyed.
14:54 The Mayans actually did have swords that looked similar to that called a macuahuitl. They were made of wood, as long a European broadsword, and were tipped along the edges with prismatic blades made from obsidian, a black volcanic glass known for being incredibly sharp. The Aztecs are best known for using them, but they were a standard weapon among Mesoamerican civilizations from the 10th century AD up until Cortes' conquest and were so deadly, in fact, that an account from one of Cortes' men says that a person wielding one of them could decapitate a horse. They were, however, easy to damage if they hit a hard object such as Spanish steel. The obsidian would chip or break due to its brittle nature, which is one of the reasons why the Aztecs often used them in a brutal but nonlethal context; Capturing battlefield prisoners so they could be brought back and sacrificed. One such example of a macuahuitl survived the conquest and was housed in the Royal Armoury of Madrid until the collection burned down in 1884. Ever since, all that's left is recreations of varying accuracy. So yeah, that's a pretty long-winded way of answering your query.
I know it sounds stupid, but I'm so happy you redid the intro with the new glasses. It was just so weird seeing the old ones focused on so much. I do hope, however, that it does eventually becomes a storyline about small changes in a timeline, even if it's retroactive.
So about the sword with the teeth blade. It’s possible its something used in rituals, but I can’t remember which part of the world it came from. Just that I’ve seen similar designs before. Now some swords would have a serrated blades on one side for practically use, but teeth here look added to the blade vs part of it.
Actually the sword design isn't too far fetched. Civilizations without access to metallurgy would sometimes affix animal teeth or other sharp objects to the sides of wooden or stone weapons to make them into sawing/cleaving weapons for combat. They would usually be bulkier than the one seen in this comic, but they did exist.
And then the crocodile xenomorph came out of the lava and transformed into its final form but batman used a superman pill to beat but gave it a second chance but it refused tried to attack but backfired on itself and killed it and that xenomorph's name was named after a refrigerator
My problem isn't with the sword's design so much as its condition. Not sure how old it's supposed to be, but it has to be a few hundred years old at the very least. It's going to at least need a good sharpening before it can be used to cut something like an armored xenomorph (I imagine the crocodile DNA made its exoskeleton thicker than the average one anyway)

The toothy sword actually isn't that bad. Okay, I don’t know about Mayan Hieroglyphs specifically, but I do know that _Egyptian_ Hieroglyphs are meant to represent sounds in sequence just like letters in an alphabet. Sure, they’re pictures designed after various things, but the _meaning_ of the pictures are still just sounds, meaning you do in fact _read_ them and not _interpret_ them as you would a painting. Again, I’m specifically talking about _Egyptian_ Hieroglyphs and it’s entirely possible Mayan Hieroglyphs are just different and they actually are meant to be pictorial representations of their actual meaning, but I feel like that’s something that could use a little extra fact-checking.
The questions you had about the steep stairs and sword are actually accurate to Aztec culture. The staircases of pyramids were really step so the heads of decapitated sacrifices would roll all the way to the bottom. And the sword, called a macuahuitl, were made of wood and would have shards of obsidian set around the edge. Broken obsidian is sharper than surgical blades so its reasonable that they could cut the xenomorph's skin. Superman vs. Alien sounds interesting, but there's also Green Lantern vs Alien which was pretty decent from what I remember.
I'm guessing that sword was meant to be a Macuahuitl, a Mesoamerican weapon that was a flat wooden club with sharpened obsidian chips along the edges. Even if it was though, it wasn't the best visual depiction of one.
12:33 I'm from Mexico and I have visited some Mayan, Aztec and other mesoamerican cultures ruins and the leaders that lead to temples and altars on top of pyramids are really like that, its really difficult to go up or down without loosing your balance. I once read a theory that there where made that way you would "bow" to the god when going up and had to take side steps when going down so you don't show your back to the god
12:58: Or Jason Todd(but he came back to life), or Commissioner Gordan's wife(unless she was revived in the New 52). You know come to think of it with how often people die and come back in comic books does it really count as not saving them if they come back alright? Furthermore, can a villain be held on murder if the hero he kills comes back, wouldn't that like void his sentence since the crimes been undone? Comics raise many questions I never thought I'd ask.
Yes! For once I read a comic before linkara had the chance to review it for Star vs. I wonder if what I imagined a review of his would be like of it. As a fan of the show I think it’s a shame it got cancelled 4 issues in.
The weapon batman picks up is probably a shark tooth club or maquahuitl (though this one typically used obsidian shards instead of shark teeth). The primary body is wood and the blades are actually designed to break off in the enemy during use. A very brutal weapon
I always find it interesting and sometimes strange where the xenomorphs show up. I remember as a kid reading an X-men christmas comic where one was chasing kitty pryde all around the mansion while the other X-men where away for the holidays. I remember really liking it.
Aztec swords didn’t have “teeth” actually. Though they were made of volcanic glass (obsidian) attached to wooden paddles. Since the Aztecs couldn’t work metal. So, it’s one step for award and ten steps back realism wise...
If something looks too dark to see it might be a problem with your screen, if you are seeing it on a laptop or maybe an older LCD TV. When I saw the movie "Her" on my old TV, there was an scene on a dark bedroom that looked almost entirely grey and black, but it looked much better on my laptop with an IPS screen.
15:00 There were some Mayan clubs were made with sharp edges or blunt stones on the sides, but that sword more resembles a Polynesian weapon called a Leiomano. It's a sword shaped wooden club with shark teeth embedded and tied around the edges. There might be one that's closer to that with the more narrow crocodile-ish teeth on the sides but I haven't seen its authenticity verified anywhere.
Seeing Young Bruce in that dream sequence reminds me of that guy who interrogates Bane at the beginning of 'The Dark Knight Rises' who has memes of (especially ones where he's a midget), as he looks like he has an adult head on a child's body.
Honestly, now I kinda want a version of that flashback where every single instance of the 'something relevant to the current story happened when the Waynes died'-trope is mashed together into one flashback. I think you could fill at least a small omnibus with that dream sequence alone.

I know "Alien" is the name of the franchise, but I've always seen Weyland-Yutani as the real villain. They have been screwing over their employees since the first movie in order to acquire the Xenomorphs for whatever their ultimate purpose is, so it kinda makes sense that they would be their indirect creation through David.

I'm guessing that sword was meant to be a Macuahuitl, a Mesoamerican weapon that was a flat wooden club with sharpened obsidian chips along the edges. Even if it was though, it wasn't the best visual depiction of one.
16:14 funny thing. The Mayans weren't very fond of bats. They were often associated with death.
The cats are invading the intro now. Neat.
An interesting crossover review leads into some interesting requests!
Another new year, another new opening. The only things not changed since the beginning are "Rob Liefeld not an artist" and "coins".
Trust me, it's not just me - one of the big criticisms of the movie is that a lot of it is in the dark and is hard to tell what's going on.
@@AT4W Oh, thank you, better to know if it is a problem of the film itself.
5:34 the dream sequences is a thing in the aliens comics and some of the movies.
Return of the best comic book reviewer.
Dun dun dunnn.
Seeing Young Bruce in that dream sequence reminds me of that guy who interrogates Bane at the beginning of 'The Dark Knight Rises' who has memes of (especially ones where he's a midget), as he looks like he has an adult head on a child's body.
Yay finally back on schedule yay 😀
That Recap was Slick Man. Let's hope it isn't game over for Batman this time!
Honestly, now I kinda want a version of that flashback where every single instance of the 'something relevant to the current story happened when the Waynes died'-trope is mashed together into one flashback. I think you could fill at least a small omnibus with that dream sequence alone.
Weird. This video isn't showing up in my subs but the last video is. I'm still subscribed, have the notification bell on, and everything. I only knew about this one because it came up in the "up next" side bar and I knew this was one I hadn't seen yet.
I'm glad TH-cam invented that bell system so it can NOT send me notifications when the channels I'm subscribed to AND activated notifications from has uploaded...
...Huh. For some reason I wasn't informed about this video, even though I'm subscribed and clicked the bell to inform about all updates.
9:45 "I only vowed to never take HUMAN lives! Aliens are fair game."
13:22 Seemingly can't have an ALIEN story without someone wanting to weaponize those things. It's their go-to trope.
Batman vs Predator 2 is one of my favorite comics ever. You should review it someday.
And now he's gonna have a flying xenomorph once that facehugger somehow infects a bat in the cave.
6:22 okay, I really want to see that version of the origin
"A cartoon I've never actually watched."
huh, cool, I wonder what it is -
"Star vs. The Forces of Evil: Deep Trouble!"
😯😮😮😮😲😲😲😲🤩🤩🤗☺
You’re welcome XD get hyped XD
Odd. This video didn't appeared in my subscription timeline. I saw it by accident in my recommendations list.
