My dad is a window cleaner and does all the big buildings in London, I remember him always telling me where to drive in this game just so he could show me a building that he's cleaned.
TopNotchAdvice this game was brilliant, contrary to popular belief, this game was inspired by max Payne and GTA, I would imagine being that the houser brother's are from the UK, they at least put some 2 sense into guiding the developers on the development of the game.
Same :D I only got to that warehouse place and died there everytime.. so I just drove cars and explored the city.. And I actually figured out now in 2016 by this video what actually happens if you don't die :DD
There are alot of PS2 Emulators to try the game again... I did it. Its not a hard game, just the missing map makes it damn hard to find locations where you are supposed to go. But upscaled on Full HD it doesnt look bad at all.
Everything was real, there was real brands everywhere, BT got a bit miffed when you used a van of theirs to get into a cop shop to shoot the place up so they replaced it with another van in later versions
Man this game really pushed the PS2 to its limits. Great graphics I mean accurate mouth movements, shadows, injuries and a accurate London. Plus the ability to take cover in 2002. This was way ahead of GTA Vice City
+Meir BASED Yeah, I totally agree, but the mouth movements are probably based on the fact it is an english game, a lot of games are foreign and get re-dubbed so the lips don't sync but this is a proper BRITISH game haha. Hard as fuck aswell, took me ages to complete, I was half way into the game before I realised you could heal by leaning up a wall. The fact I got as far as I did without healing shows I had some form of talent :-p
+Meir BASED yeah i saw it everywhere in GAME shops but never got round to buying it and just watching it it does look pretty fancy graphics for the time
+Meir BASED The game looked amazing but the game plays was very sluggish and there was very little in game world to explore. GTA Vice City was fast and lots of fun to play and it sound track was top notch. The Getaway was one of the super hyped games that did not live up to its reputation. It was also one of the games that was promised around the PS2 release date but it took ages for it to get released.
Even though this game is short, its a VERY challenging game, i remember me and my cousins stopped playing after mission 7 cause it was hard. But this mission shows how challenging the game was.
Jose Mercedes Tell me about it, i was lucky to get past the car driving in mission one and the guns? Ho ho ho i couldent do it although the game itself is nice.
+Charlotte Torres on xmas it took me from 9:00am right til 9:00pm just to get the first part of the driving done lol, it was such a hard game but i was only about 13 :D
FLProducer Thats not a excuse. If you were 7 and you couldn't complete it I would understand but if you were 13 and couldn't complete it your probably just shit at games
the minor details in this game blew me away as a kid like: 1.the indicators in the car 2.how you can heal by leaning against the wall 3.picking up guns from the ground 4.walking up stairs animation like straight up blew my mind hahaha I wish I was that young again
when I was in high school there was one guy who always bullied me. One day I was talking about PS2 video games(True Crime NYC, GTA, etc) and he approached and to me and my friends, I thought he was just going to make fun of us. But he then joined the conversation, and told me he had played a very good game called Getaway and that it was awesome. He asked me if I wanted to play it, and I said yeah, and he invited me to his house to play it. He later became my friend. Funny how life is
That's an awesome story my cousin actually bought me this game for my 10th birthday, in reality it was for him, I had a blast watching him complete both stories, I gained a lot of respect for him as a gamer👍
This game was one of those that you could never forget, ever. A classic. With a story that pulled you in and made me feel like a father at what? 13 years old? lol. Just trying to find my son and the people responsible. Wish I could play it again!
@Sudarshan Aravamudhan game looks pretty sick but I doubt it will let you go to much of the city, map looks pretty small compared to the size of London irl
This game was in my memory since I was 5, I'm 21 now and forgot the name of the game for the longest time. You can imagine the pure ecstacy I felt when I finally found the game I knew I played, but could never figure the name of. This has literally been my fever dream for years. Haha

My cousin bought this game for me as a kid, it was too hard for me, so he played and completed it himself. I was just so intrigued even just watching back then, the characters are so funny and charismatic, the story has you hooked, this game can be a great feature film!
This is quite a leap in graphics compared to Vice City which released the same year, sure Vice City is more fun but you can't deny this looked amazing for 2002 standard.
This game was so much more realistic then gta, the cars where slow and heavy like the real ones, they could be damaged and run slower, and the charcter hadn't a life bar but got real injuries. Even GTA 5 isn't so realistic. I would love a game like that to be relased today.
I am a GTA fanboy and you are correct. I love The Getaway and The Getaway: Black Monday for its realism. the only gta that came close to realistic drive was GTA IV but GTA V was like a parody the game is excellent but still... The Getaway games were very underrated. But my point is that both games have great story, the gameplay was good, good map as well and the acting was superb in both games of course with it´s flaws but what is the game that doesn´t have flaws? BTW Black Monday is my favorite of the 2 games :)
Lmao! I got this game when it first came out and the graphics to me were awesome. Looking back now I am like WTF?!? You can never think graphics can be topped. Cannot wait to see what happens in another 15 years.
Man watching this brings back memories. One of the best open world games that ever came out. In an age full of reboots, somebody needs to start lookin to give this one another go
Watching this back reminds me how faithful this game was to London; going from Bank, through Southwark, to Borough Market. Would love this to be remade.
Glad to see people still watching this old video of mine and appreciating this game which is now over 20 years old! For those interested, I have replayed the game and recorded it in 4K at 60FPS using the PCSX2 emulator which allows the game to be played in much better quality. Be sure to check out the newer version for better gameplay and quality and subscribe for new videos about The Getaway: th-cam.com/video/5WnSbkYfLjg/w-d-xo.html
+Teera Xo Me too! This was my first ps2 game along with vice city. They were very comparable, and I loved the getaway a lot more, because it felt and looked so real for it's time. It really brings me back to see this gameplay, it's funny how memories once forgotten can return, watching something like this. It really took me ages to beat, lol.
Gta 5 turned into a grindy dlc filled multiplayer focused sack of shit because they realised how much they could get away with, a yacht for 10mil, piss off, the singleplayer is still great though

I first played this game in Botswana during my primary school years - a few months after its release. I fell in love with the British accent becaused of it. So much so that it made me work hard in high-school and eventually convince my parents to study abroad, in England. I live and work in Leeds but picked up more of a northerner twang rather than a Cockney one 😢
Thanks for all these uploads. I remember having to complete this game in one day because my cousin and I could not afford a memory card to save the progress. Unfortunately we only finished it as Hammond and playing as the cop in the second half was too much for our little minds to handle in 24 hours.
The big difference between games today and games from around a decade ago is that they now don't even bother making a good storyline. They don't care about plot of character development or challenging tasks. Is game is so nostalgic. That first mission was something me and my younger brother could never pass. But we turned the ps2 on anyway to play. Games could scare you. This one was scary. All they care about today is OTT graphics. It doesn't matter. I much preferred older graphics. Coco Pops totally agree... I mean I have all the systems out... from 360 to xbox one, ps3 ps4 wiiU vita, new ambiio gameBoy and idk it's just not the same as back in the days. All kids cry now is about fps 30 or 60fps at 1080p blah blah blah... it's retarded
Coco Pops no no no ... PEOPLE especially kids are in it for the graphics instead of gameplay... I just bought this game so I could play it again. It was such a great game to play no joke. Wish they had came out with it for ps3 or ps4.
I got the demo of this mission in an old gaming mag back before it was released. And I played it so many times that I had it completely memorized. Even the dialog. Embarrassing, but damn this was a classic. Everything about it.
This game was mind blowing when I first played it. Seeing a big blood spot on Hammond's stomach and leg, the way he started to move slower because of the bullet wounds, how shaky the aiming got the more damage you took. I'm glad I learned about resting against the wall after I completed the game. It really added to the realism.
Great writing, great voice acting, great animations, great recreation of London (you drive right past my university :D), good story... Really got the atmosphere of a cockney gangster movie. Great soundtrack, too. That Oboe and then a bit of a Cuban jive on the brass.
My dad is a window cleaner and does all the big buildings in London, I remember him always telling me where to drive in this game just so he could show me a building that he's cleaned.
That's so cool hahaha

Coco Pops totally agree... I mean I have all the systems out... from 360 to xbox one, ps3 ps4 wiiU vita, new ambiio gameBoy and idk it's just not the same as back in the days. All kids cry now is about fps 30 or 60fps at 1080p blah blah blah... it's retarded
lol They just care about the quality of how it looks alone. The story and characters matter more.
I think the superhero games now are crap too
Coco Pops no no no
Everything about it.
we need the remake or something , dis was classic
Man I used to dream about passing the missions that caused me hell. Woke up, tried it out, and most times it worked. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
this game was legendary
This game was mind blowing when I first played it. Seeing a big blood spot on Hammond's stomach and leg, the way he started to move slower because of the bullet wounds, how shaky the aiming got the more damage you took. I'm glad I learned about resting against the wall after I completed the game. It really added to the realism.
Yeah i loved it too but now it just looks bad xD
Holy shit this game was ahead if its time!!!
I have played thousands of games. This stands near the top. Loved this game.
sweet memories i loved this game
I missed this game. One of the greatest ps game. The story and the intense feeling while playing this. I miss my early childhoon days
I would love to play this game once again ! It seems like it was yesterday, damn I need to get my hands on PS2 very soon :D
Most suspenseful chase I've ever played. This mission really threw you into the deep end. The music was so appropriate as well.
THis Game was my childhood dude dammn this is fucking good
game aged incredibly well. Looks soo good for a ps2 game
I remember playing this game on my cousin's PS2. Cool game.
I used to play this when I was young ..very young .. I feel like I want to cry after seeing this
This just makes me think GTA needs to go a game in London.
Great writing, great voice acting, great animations, great recreation of London (you drive right past my university :D), good story... Really got the atmosphere of a cockney gangster movie. Great soundtrack, too. That Oboe and then a bit of a Cuban jive on the brass.
This is basically British GTA that's even MORE British than GTA London 1961 and 1969.
+Fell Man Well, GTA London 1961 and 1969 deliberately dwells into British stereotypes.
p t That's the point....
Well.. GTA is a British game series too so...
Ha I've just bought this game again and black Monday couldn't resist the nostalgia.
Most gamers nowadays don’t know these classics
I just remember playing the first level of this on a demo disc as a kid.
