After 300+ hours with the game, reaching 100% and doing a bunch of PvP, I started playing AC4, before AC6 I only had played AC3 and Silent Line, and I always wanted to play AC4 (and I'll play For Answer later) and man, did I missed the feeling of piloting a vehicle that the old games had, the fluidity of movement of AC6 is great, but paired with the stagger mechanic makes it feel like a character action game like Sekiro, instead of a Mecha piloting game. I must say that the older games do steer to much to the janky-clunky side, but that's due to the technology and budget at the time. If AC4/4A were made today, that combat would be the peak of the franchise, that game really makes you feel that you are really piloting a lumbering mechanized giant.
Love this game. Glad to see the series make a comeback, and glad to see folks still talking about and enjoying the game months after release. I've worn it out and I still come back to the garage to mess around - easily my favorite game of '23. FWIW I've been playing since the first game was new, and I totally agree with you that the gameplay is the best it's ever been. I wouldn't mind more viable long range stuff coming in expansions or subsequent games, but this is the most fun I've ever had with what's already been my favorite series for decades. I will say the sound design in this game is much better with headphones for the reason you mentioned; a lot of the low frequency stuff gets lost otherwise and it comes off a bit hollow. I actually do think a good 3 or 4 of the music tracks are memorable, but in more of a movie score kind of way compared to the older games tracks I'd listen to otherwise. I really enjoyed this review and your other AC coverage - keep up the good work!
hell yeah, as an old AC fan your channel has been a blast to follow. Also completely agreed and yes you're doing a lot of things right The world is going to hell (in a way that's even referenced in the game) but AC6 being announced, released, and delivering so hard has been a complete joy for me, it might have saved me. It shows ppl can still make truly, actually amazing games, without cheating with AI or smh >_
Thank you, it makes me really happy to see people enjoy the videos I make here! And yeah, videogames in general are the strongest medium of entertainment imo, and AC6 delivers on pretty much every level.
I HEAVILY disagree with your take on the music. every song had impact for me and felt perfect for every moment. I remember feeling so awful when the piano started during "Shut down the closure satellites" or Rusty's theme making him seem truly heroic when he showed up the mission prior. and so many other moments throughout the game. I love the soundtrack so much that I purchased it and have it on my playlist. I'm even tempted to get it on vinyl.
That's totally fair, like I've said there are a bunch of tracks that I do really enjoy as well, but most of the other pieces were just kinda "whatever". Although still fitting with what's happening on screen. And go for that vinyl, I'm always for getting physical media for the things that you love!
AC 6 was my first AC game i played. Starting out i felt great. I felt like i was seriously piloting a powerful weighty killing machine bred for war. As the narrative progressed and the factions start recognizing your prowess as a new force to be reckoned with on this planet I started to really feel like the main character in a power fantasy. But then by the end of the first play through by combination of narrative hyping you up, your weapons growing in strength and variety, and most importantly your piloting skills increasing to the point where you’re constantly playing triage with all your cooldowns.. you feel truly like your favorite anime’s mecha pilot. Not just a god of destruction. You are now Rubicon’s God of Death. AC 6 is my game of the year by vote. But by matter of opinion, purely subjective opinion, AC 6 is the most genuine enjoyment ive gotten out of a video game in 10 years. Im so glad i went out on a limb and got this game.
I use headphones with 96khz range and the sounds are actually really good. You can hear a lot of nuances if you listen closely and if you use an equalizer you can turn up the bass
I really liked the point you made about the MTs and how easy fodder they were. Thing is in AC6 they dont really matter, but back in Gen 1-3 they absolutely mattered. When you had to worry about debt and no check points, slacking off on these guys would be horrible for you. You had to treat them just as cautiously since you have no idea if a boss or another AC is coming up, You're gonna wish you had brought more guns, more ammo, saved up AP. Even more so in 3 and Silent Line where you could pay for help. You'd difference in paying for MT help versus asking for an AC to join. Why it was cool to see that MT pilot get their AC privilege's but also sigh that they are now more expensive. It gave an insight into what the corps consider when sending in request for YOU to do a mission. I would love to see a more expanded AC4 where you manage MTs and send them out on AI missions, tweak their tendencies, Research new parts or designs. Along side just doing more missions like in Another Age. Fighting old relics like Klein, White glint, Stinger, and Nineball again in this engine.
All I really hope is that this-like the game- is a spark that will light a great fire in the gaming community and bring mecha back from it's semi-slumbered state that it finds itself in. AC6 was a spectaculor start, let's see who else stand up to "Feed the flame"Ç Also this game has Rusty in it so it should have won game of the century
I agree with the fact that this game lacked a lot of memorable OSTs compared to the older games (Especially Gen 4 and Gen 5, those were peak Kota Hoshino performances), but there are a handful of OSTs I listen to daily that I really really love, examples being Rough and Decent (Bad Joke included), Cries of Coral, The Man Who Passed the Torch, and Steel Haze (Rusted Pride).
new mechanic or frustrating that we got sterotype builds per type to take advantage of the stagger system in PvP, especially ranked PvP. but IMO, let's wait for the next AC6 to see if they can refine it better. they do have issues with the starting numbered release but fixed them on the next one under that numbered series.
I think that Co-Op like AC4Answer would had been awesome even if it was not for all missions. The OST was not bad, it had a few overall great tracks but compared to pervious games it felt a but underwhelming. Also more new weapons and parts is also nice and I'm satisfied with what we have now, because normally the first game of every generation has the least amount of parts. and I do appreciate that AC6 weapons feel distinct enough from each other. Besides that I have not other complaints for the game. The game is awesome, possibly the best in the series.
Amazing game... your kinda late on the reviewing it side BUT glad people love it gtta admit having been a Vet since AC2. N now seeing AC back with AC6 i absolutely love it
You make good points *except* about the sound design. I agree that the music is mostly only "good" with the exception of a few tracks, but the sound design in this game is phenomenal. The weapons all have unique and fantastic sounds, even the way your AC moves is nice and clunky until you turn on the boosters. And of course, the ice worm mission is the pinnacle of sound design.
About the sound design, from what I've seen the ACs itself really seem less impactful, less weighty, in older gens you would for example hear the metal of the ac foot pounding against the ground, and even fourth gen impressively for me has the goofiest and clunkiest walking animations, wich show that even if those machines can achive great speeds with their boosters, they're still ten meters tall creatures of steel, and in ac6 the ACs are solid snake himself, walking basicaly like a human I feel like, but the smooth gameplay do look really sweet
I actually agree with basically everything you've said in this review. For once I found myself not really caring about the difficulty in a game too much. One could say a lot of the enemies that aren't bosses require almost no effort to take down, but i didn't mind that at all. Even destroying pushover MTs was absolutely fun, since the pure movement and combat mechanics are so enjoyable. Some complaints i have are the lack of PEAK ost tracks like you mentioned and actually one thing i've realized after you mentioned the "hollowness" of the sound design is that it feels like you're controlling a plastic toy at times instead of a giant robot. I think that's partly the sound designs fault but at the same time that sense of scale didn't really hit for me. Even though we have streets and buildings on a lot of the maps I always felt so small, almost human sized. Besides that the game was absolutely amazing and i'm always comming back to it every once in a while to play some PvP or just "feel" the gameplay for one or two hours.
Oh look it’s me in the video!!! Awesome vid tho, I disagree on some stuff but i really love the way you did narration and you have a really nice voice wich made listening very enjoyable
Totally agree on the OST. There are some standouts, but overall the soundtrack was weak. There's actually a gameplay overhaul mod out that also replaces a lot of the music with older Armored Core music, and a few other sources. I installed the music only, for my subsequent playthroughs. It's a little messy, but I love it. Mod's called RE-AC6, it's on Nexus Mods and the modder clarified how to install the music only in a comment reply.
I'd honestly pay good money for them to pull a DMC5 and allow us to purchase some of the songs from the original Games just so I could have Mechanized Memories or Nine Ball's theme for nostalgia and so I could have some really strong battle music. Mechanized Memories especially I also want another remix of Remember so bad.
Smart move criticizing the music after you gave all the subscribe and like stuff T. hahaha. it's very basic techno which it always has been, except when it isn't, like the garage music is just chefkiss. I like to turn it up loud then the sound effects really pop, when you make the garage music really audible. Fair do though. DLC for a fromsoft game I think time has told my man teehee. But seriously the music is favourite part of the game.
I think I’m the only one who genuinely didn’t like rusty. He calls you buddy and I’m just like “who is this prick?” He’s an arrogant ‘HERO’ who thinks he can save the world. But in the grand scheme of things, he’s nothing. A child in his thinking.
The new OST SUCKS! BAD! They need to bring back the electronica.i put my headphones in and play Shape memory alloys when in the garage and i play the OST from other older AC games when in battle.
Video is dope but the pandering simpage for tank legs... real or phoney bleh. Tank legs and slow optimized pvp metas are trash. Sick of the "sitn'trade" and the "updown kitey" garbage. Does everyone just hate EN management? Moving around is too alien too some people? 😂 Again, overall great video.
I played ACFA recently, which has gotten me to appreciate AC6 even more. I love both games, but AC6's melee combat is far better.
I found the audio mixing to be great. It's really a shame that most players won't stop boosting to hear the audio mixing when they walk.
Oh yeah the mixing is great, don't have anything to complain about there lol
Or hearing “AP 50 percent” “Right shoulder ammunition 30%”

I'm a bit of an Armored Core purist myself, but I can gladly say ACVI is best AC, especially for storytelling.
Oh look it’s me in the video!!! Awesome vid tho, I disagree on some stuff but i really love the way you did narration and you have a really nice voice wich made listening very enjoyable
Thank you! I always try to get better with my narration specifically, so I really appreciate it!
brilliant content as always

@@Zeromaru42 I agree on all fronts, 100 percent.
About the dumb missions, you are a mercenary you are going to get dumb jobs is part of the theme.
Another Age had dumber, and those were completely mandatory.
Loved this video!
