He's too tall and his hips are too narrow. This hurts his anchor and he can't disengage from blocks.

Quay Walker was a bad pick from day 1. Still a massive reach and rare L by Gute.
He’s got plenty of Ls, like most GMs. He basically didn’t have good drafts until 2022/2023 happened. Cuz last year you had the Love pick come to fruition, then the 2022 and 2023 class all had several players come to fruition. The years prior, not great.
Quay is probably our 4th best LB just now.
Cooper or Hoppet at Mike. Remember Zach Yhomas for.Dolphin was.short. Outstanding linebacker. Great lateral movement
Quay may be the best of a badly-overmatched bunch but that ain't saying much.
Kind of makes me think of when if a team has no good left tackle option so they pick whoever seems like the on-paper best player overall (likely by physical traits and/or athletic ability) of their available OL guys to slide into that spot, with the result being both spots (the one they step into AND the one they were in before) being worse off.
I kind of think it'd be better to try putting Quay in his best spot to succeed while just accepting a lower ceiling on Mike LB play, rather than overmatching him like this AND having a lower ceiling on weakside LB play. It doesn't seem like the other guys can be THAT much worse in the middle than he's been so far.
All this current setup seems to be doing is cementing Quay as the current most-disliked player on the team by fans w/ a reputation for bad plays that's gonna make him remembered as basically the linebacker version of Ahmad Carroll

Im no expert by any means, nor do i claim to be. But you cant think less at the position they are playing him. You have yo make move and just see what happens, cause its very unlikely to be worse. Im no Quay hater, but none of this so far is working. So whatvother choice do you have? Things have to change. Just ones man's opinion. For what little thats worth.
I'm not surprised to see some struggles at Mike. I didn't think Quay was best for it. He's a Will. Does Edge get tried at Mike once he's ready? Hope so.

This is why they went after Josey Jewell in the off season before the Panthers gave him a ridiculous offer that he couldn't refuse. They knew they needed a MIKE for a while.
I always thought quay was better suited as a DE on passing situations and just let him rush the passer ...

Nags is submitting to QW playing the Mike as it is what it is. No! Trade him and get a true Mike veteran who is competent and be done with it. The other 3 LB’s we have are just fine. QW isn’t working. Excuses don’t work anymore. Since he has been here, we have all been far too willing to play in the pudding while neglecting to recognize the proof. Stop it. This pick didn’t turn out. It’s okay. That happens. But let’s stop trying to push this square peg into a round hole. Move on. Who’s out there that we can get by the trade deadline? Go get a Josey Jewell type of guy. Inexpensive stop gap MLB until you draft one.

I remember being pissed when we passed up Fred Warner during one of the drafts, and have been wasting so many 1st round drafts on project players that just dont live up to it. Walker/Wyatt looked like sure things from GA defense but havent been game changers yet. Stokes also. LVN sure is athletic, hopefully he starts producing this year. Now we got Gary being paid Top $, missed 2 years and isnt a huge factor in big games like Crosby, Watt, Bosa but gets the bag like them guys. Forever fan, but its been hard watching all these mistakes past 6 years.
I wonder if converting him to an edge rusher would make him of more value to the defense
But with how they play smith and Gary with others I can't see that working I say give quay more time
@@kevionwhite8806 I just don’t see it with Gary. I feel like I’m in the minority with that opinion. 9 sacks last year with 6 of them coming in two games. So you’re talking 3 sacks in 15 other games for a guy paid to be a premier pass rusher. 32.5 sacks in 75 games. Last 2 seasons Myles Garrett has 30 in 32 games.

@@kevionwhite8806 Von miller blew his knee out and came back the next year and had 15 sacks in 16 games. JJ Watt had major knee injury in 2017 and came back in 2018 and had 16 sacks in 16 games.
@@bradm4493 those are hofers Gary is his own guy shoot I remember ppl ripping the packers for drafting him for him to turn out a stud he his for couple of seasons was coming in for z smith or Preston which the do to keep guys fresh as the way of the 49ers to send waves of pass rush they got between the edge and inside five good to great pass rushers
