    Your double subtitles made me comprehend the unity of this magic music and the perfect french lyrics to it, the beauty of the masterpiece as a whole and fall in love with French language... Thank you, I have shared it several times with my students and I will continue to do it...

    Notice how none of these men loves Esmeralda for who she is? Quasimodo sees her as an otherworldly angel, a saviour from heaven, Frollo sees her as a temptation that will be the end of him and Phoebus sees her as merely another concubine, more interesting than the previous ones. The only one that could maybe learn to like her in a better way would be Gringoire, though he sees her as an ''angel that smiled (at him)'' (in ''The Doors of Paris'').

      team Gringoire here, too. That man certainly got the short end of the stick.
      I've said it before: this song is not good advertising for being blindingly beautiful. what that gets a woman is:
      - one Harvey Weinstein type of admirer / stalker, type "it's all her fault for being so beautiful"
      - one dreadful entitled frat boy
      - one fairly innocent, sweet-hearted admirer who projects a life-time worth of loneliness on her
      - one tragic, way too early death.

      @@Crosshill it.s ok 🤣🤣 i get why you say this. but listen to me...the lust of a man for a woman he can.t get can not be compared with any other force on earth and is present and discribed throughout history in literature,music...aso. it is hard to comprehend for a woman because women control mating, while the unanswered longing of a male for the woman he desires turns into dispair and finally eats him alive. weird or not, for passionate humans it is an undeniable truth. maybe you now get what i mean. then again..."knowing is not understanding"

    Observe como nenhum desses homens ama Esmeralda por quem ela é? Quasimodo a vê como um anjo de outro mundo, uma salvadora do céu, Frollo a vê como uma tentação que será o fim dele e Phoebus a vê apenas como mais uma concubina, mais interessante que as anteriores. O único que talvez pudesse aprender a gostar dela de uma maneira melhor seria Gringoire, embora ele a veja como um ''anjo que sorriu (para ele)'' (em ''As Portas de Paris'').

    Does "jardin" have another meaning besides garden in French?

    • @elpeple1442
      @elpeple1442 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It could be in reference to « le jardin secret » (secret garden), an expression used to describe the intimacy of a person, mostly a woman :)

    Beautiful but very creepy. Why ask the devil to help him and look under a woman's skirt?

    • @pomade34
      @pomade34 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That means he won't resist to the devil's temptation only one time... he is not looking for help.
      And the skirts did not exist at that time.

    • @haniasn2365
      @haniasn2365 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's the whole point of the story told here. Notre Dame de Paris was a novel about how a young roma girl, Esméralda, turned the beast Quasimodo into human and the priest Claude Frollo into an inhuman figure. Frollo doesn't need any help from the devil, 'cause at this point that's what lust and desire have made of him : he's the portrait of a monster.
