The Mental Mix
13th November 1992
Dundonald Ice Bowl / Belfast
Oldskool Belfast Ulster Hall Hellrasier Circus Circus Kelly's The Arena Tokyo Joe's The Network The Point
Tapes were THE SHIT :D who remembers rewinding a tape with a pencil (spinning around in the air), because it was faster than the Walkmann function? Or just to save some battery power, because the Walkmann was running on 4 AAs and you`ve been on a trip with no place to buy spare ones :) :) :) good old times, kinda miss them...
used to charge the batteries by throwing them in long grass in the sun. worked quite well.
yeah i rememeber
Take back to them times plse😢😮
2x AAs surely? how big was your walkman?!
This mix makes me want to run around the street neked
Fucken sick, the dodgy quality adds to the nostalgia.
It's probably a 10th generation copy lol. Top Tunes and scratching!
Ahhh those were the days 18 in 92 now 50 blasting to this at the gym 💪
I remember this gig very well..
RIP Keith Flint... 2019
This was not from a gig at all - only a very early mixtape.
i was referring to the Dundonald Ice Bowl event,, whichvwas definately a gig.... but i probably should have listeneed to the 'miw' before commenting... 😂
Oh, now you've done me there! I confess I'd never even heard of that event - only heard about the "mental mix" being this legendary mixtape that got copied and passed around countless times, if you were very lucky. I totally apologise for my lack of knowledge here buddy! So did Liam actually do a live DJ set at this gig? I know he's done some DJ sets later on in Prodigy career but very few and far between, typically based around the Dirtchamber CD mix - I know of a few other Howlett DJ mixes on TH-cam which are clearly very early 90's, but didn't know about that particular gig. Please tell me a bit more about that gig - I'd be interested to learn!
I haven't much to add really... A group of us were involved in the early NI rave scene,,, so i drove us up to Dundonald (passed my test that year) and we had a bit of a mental night..as per order of the times.. whilst smoking (ahem) outside a couple of lads in black and white costumes joined us for a chat😂, and we ate some crisps, before they said we're on soon and left with some funky fast foot movements,, we happened to wonder ...?? Then inside i realized it was the dance crew, guessing Flint/sharky ,,🎉 . Banging party,, think it was live Prodigy,, but could have been a DJ set,, or both ?? have the flyer somewhere...anyway it was a good Prodigy Experience for me,, excuse the pun... tis all
just want to add,,, turn 50 this year,, and it all seems so dream like,, did we actually have such seemingly unlimited fun? was it real ? looking around at today's kids (including my own), can they ever have such memories?? even if those memories are hazy and often chemically confused, they were still something... dunno what i'm trying to say here...😂

Liam Howlett 4ever!
Oldschool is kickin ass!
Liam howlett is a genius
I was listening to it half my life ago and it was a masterpiece for me in the 90s. But now.... my ears in some moments want to explode... high bpm, no sync between trax and so much noise. True oldschool.
great memories of the early 90s..
just sat through most of this bouncing about in my chair, absolutely brilliant stuff, bring back the download button
46 minutes just went by and I didn't even think once to change it. Amazing mix, keeps you in the trance as long as it's playing. What a wonderful point in time for music.
Saw them in London 1991 indie dance/ house days and they then and still now cut loop break all in their path ... And they still getting better!!! This is awesome kids so shut up in the back seat coz my gen still runs the show so who or what your sorry bunch done or got show me .....All shit , and these guys , NIN /chemicals Underworld still kicking ass ..
I'm after listening to this twice today and I have to say Liam is a fucking genius, and legend, absolutely loved every second of this, brilliant mix, old but gold, thank you for uploading this 💯❤️❤️🐜
I grew up with music like this, so todays DJ's make me sleep...
Two different styles. Guetta is strictly house, Howlett is everything breaks. IMHO Howlett can't really be topped by anyone cuz he's pioneered sooo much. He was rockin the dubstep beats, the reggae beats, breaks, and all that other shit before everyone else. AND he was also responsible for rolling stone thinkin rock music was dead after the Prodigy raped American airwaves for a bit. Mad respect to this musical genious.
guetta should not be mentioned with the great LH....guetta is commercial cheezy house
David Guetta seriously comparing to Liam Howlett WTF not even on the same planet - Guetta commercial rubbish
Howlett doesnt get enough recognition, the man truly knows his shit when it comes to music and sound itself 👍👍
I'm honestly puzzled as to why you're mentioning Guetta and Howlett in the same sentence.
long time prodigy fan since oh, off the top of my head, 1996 i believe. memories of coding in visual basic listening to charly or everybody in the place....never really looked to much into these guys history, but this is very interesting to hear the early beginnings.. i like it. this guy was raw for 1992, and in my opinion way ahead of his time

Liam had amazing production skills for the time but as a dj.... There are loads of mixes from 92 that are so much better than this but cus its him it gets lots of views. Still top rave history ta for the upload Cheeseman!
The reason why I like this mix so much is because of the tune selection.

Peccato che non potevo ancora uscire a quell'età

Yes, you could copy them, it's like downloading a single mp3 file with a torrent, but without a computer, torrent and the internet lol
