You are learning - but they are right. It’s a 2 person job. The first mate takes the bow line straight away and secures it asap. Whilst the captain on the helm also throws the windward stern line.!! Doing one at a time will get you in trouble if there is wind. Also Put the engine in idle forward once stern is secure! Once the boat is secure then adjust the lines as needed. From experience!
Thank Robbie. We did hit the boat to port so not that great ☹️. I think we managed a good save from lack of support from marinaros. That starboard stern line should have been tied off tightly, securely and immediately. And the dinghy should have been on the leeward side to push us.
11.28.24 Thanks for another nice video. Even I had a little bit of a knot in my gut during the windy docking. Even though the young girl had a different plan than you two, I liked her attitude and politeness, and excellent English.
Yes, we are grateful for their language skills. Ultimately the skipper is responsible, and if that knock on the boat to port had caused damage then we’d be paying for it.
It wasn’t shit. You did great, a bit shorter with the windward stern line and more confidence to add more power and that would have been 100%. That said, at 99% you did great in those conditions. Well done. Just don’t argue with the dockhands, your plan was right at the outset. PS. First thing this morning, at 11am 😂
Well picked up Tony. I did not notice when we docked that she just looped the end of the stern line rather than pulling it tight. This meant that I had about 8m of line and when I motored forward I headed for the boat to port (1 berth over) rather than turning. Seeing this I backed off power so we didn’t hit hard and the fenders did most of the work with a small hull to hull knock that didn’t do any damage. I’m glad I made the decision not to take the bow line straight away. That would have put Jude in a very dangerous position trying to tie off a line with the boat still moving. In hindsight I think the best option would have been to not dock and agree on procedures with them first and then start again.
Re the lap top, always had issues editing on them, slow and always issues. I moved to an iPad Pro a few years ago, super fast no issues easy to edit on LumaFusion and upload via the youtube studio app, super fast 4k upload and optimisation. Used my iPad Pro for work also and never need a pc again. Other than to update any old Raymarine systems on the boat so worth keeping hold of a laptop for that. I am just about to pop star link mini on our boat too. Will make things faster when sailing down to the med next year. Thanks for the episode, brush off the docking and have a sundowner 👍 cheers Nick 🍻
When I lived in.Greece I forgot to pay my bar bill one night, you can guess why, realising this when I woke up I headed off to the bar and paid the owner with apologies. Later that day I popped into my local for a beer and when I tried to pay Niko replied “pay me tomorrow” . It was known all over town in hours and Niko was teasing me.😄 I suspect had I not made good on my bill I would have struggled to get served anywhere again. Take care and enjoy Greece.
I love Greece but due to life getting in the way am back in UK. I had the good fortune to be invited to weddings a christening and a funeral for a man who had two commendations from king George for his help getting certain people to safety during Cretes occupation. Fair winds, Rob.
Hi, we met online in January 2020, engaged June 2020, then married March 2023 right before getting a one way ticket to Paris for a honeymoon and to collect Helios and start our journey. It’s kind of like a never ending honeymoon and we want to keep it like that 🥰

Well done both of you. You did a superb job.
