I so remember my years at the shul. It was to a great extent my safe place. Habonim Shtilim meetings on Sundays, my two years in the choir (until my voice broke), my barmitzvah and hanging out with the whole gang in front of the shul between times inside during the High Holidays. I fondly remember when I became dati for a while, walking with my neighbour and mentor Rabbi Poupko to and from shul. And we all remember Rabbi Poupko! I was so proud when I arrived back from Machon and came to Rosh Hashanah services without a jacket and tie. I was clear that you didn't need the trappings to be observany. I loved it, my family didn't. I'm now living thousands of miles away, but when I watched the video, it was just yesterday Sydnm -Hilands North Shul (written with a SA accent), with a, Yom Huledet Sameach!
