    Wonderful remembrance. Made the crossing back in 1977, and now that I am writing about my life adventures for my grand kids, I searched and found your video which is going to depict very graphically, what we experienced so many years ago. Thanks a lot.

      Websrchr Thank you for watching it. I have relatives in Newfoundland and make the journey there every few years. I never get tired of the voyage. It's really unfortunate that most Canadians don't make the journey to NL. Best of luck in your writing.

    Great video Thanks for the memories. The last time I went there I wound up leaving my poor old dilapidated 1971 gmc p/u there at that very dock on the way back. Sold it to some local feller from Stephensville.

      Agreed. The Caribou was my favourite. Seeing photos of it dismantled in a heap was heartbreaking.

      That’s so cool I rode on the old ferry’s in the past and I loved it becuse I felt safe on the old ones I don’t feel safe on the new ferry’s it feels like I’m going to get sick on them that’s why I’m nervous to go to Newfoundland on the ferry this year I get car sick easy 🤢

    Tha boat people are leaving the sacred ground of Cape Breton. I really hope the Newfie refugees enjoyed their Unwelcome stay here and may the herring be multifarious when they return to their rock in the pond.

    How was the trip there and back? I want to visit so badly but I have a fear of ferries. Trying to watch this to get over the anxiety.

    How long did it take and how much was it?

    • @G.R.V-v4g
      @G.R.V-v4g  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CptSchmidt It takes about 6 hours from North Sydney to Port aux Baques and 7 hours for the return trip. The cost to take the ferry is getting expensive. It cost me over $500 for the crossing (4 people plus 1 car). Unfortunately I can't remember the cost breakdown per passenger and car. You could probably find the exact price on the Marine-Atlantic website.

      nodreb123 How much would flying that number of people plus booking a hotel room for the night would cost as you spent a night on the ferry, not to mention renting a car to use on the island? Unfortunately, Newfoundland is an island too far for a bridge.

    • @G.R.V-v4g
      @G.R.V-v4g  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SeaToby11 I haven't flown to Newfoundland in 25 years so I don't know the price but I heard it was not cheap. As for Hotels, again I couldn't really tell you as I usually stay with relatives although we did spend 3 days at a B&B in Rocky Harbour two years ago and it cost us about $400.

      +CptSchmidt Can be anywhere from 6 to 8 hours depending on wind and tide. I did it in Sept 2015 and it was $216.00 US and that included 2 pick-ups and 4 passengers with rooms. We all got our moose.

      I wanted to but there were live musical performances going on inside and YT gives me a lot of grief about recording these things, especially when I try to put ads on my vids.

    If traveling with pets in a travel trailer, do the pets stay in the trailer and/or car throughout the ferry trip?

    • @G.R.V-v4g
      @G.R.V-v4g  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't really know as I don't travel with pets. They either stay in the car or there is a special place for them. You would need to check with Marine Atlantic for their pet policy. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

    • @ProWrestlingMB1
      @ProWrestlingMB1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can leave your pet in your car. They give you a sign to put on your dashboard. You have to tell them when you’re paying so they can give you the sign. You get to park closer where the air moves so that your pet can get fresh air. (Leave your Windows Down enough, about an inch, inch and a half maybe two inches but you can decide how much) Or you can pay for a kennel space where it’s on the outside of the boat in a closed area. I wouldn’t recommend the kennel because people can access it all night and if your pet is timid or scared that won’t be a great night for them. I leave my pet in the car ( they have your scent and feel more comfortable) because I’m not paying that much for a crappy kennel where you provide the kennel and people access it all night/day.

    Can you take a ferry from Nova Scotia to ST. JOHN's....how long and how much if anyoneknows.....want to see my Grandparents birthplace.

    • @G.R.V-v4g
      @G.R.V-v4g  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is another ferry that takes you to Argentia, which is on the south-east side of the Island and much closer to St John's. It's about a 14 hour crossing.

      I'm not sure. I think it may something to do with the sea currents.

    • @ProWrestlingMB1
      @ProWrestlingMB1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What way are you asking? Trip to Port Aux Basques which is closer is about 8 hours. Trip to Argentia is 16 because you go farther East, closer to the opposite side of Newfoundland. The ride there and back on both trips is the same unless the weather causes delays.
