  • First of all as stated in the video I watched a few videos to learn how to make natural cordage from the inner bark of various trees aswell as others using alternative fibrous fern leaves etc. There are many videos about how to use natural materials around you to make and build the requirements for survival. There is a few channels documenting and teaching the traditional skills of Aboriginal people in Australia but this knowledge is fading and we must do all that we can to try and preserve the wealth of knowledge of the over 250 nations that resided throughout this land for more than 60000 yrs.
Thanks to • String Making for documenting this skill on his channel, please go and check it out, super easy step by step tutorial.

I was looking at that plant as a potential fibrous material for making some cordage, I’m not sure if this one is native to Australia or at least where I am right now in South Australia I don’t think it’s native. I will strip a leaf off and give it a go. Thanks for the information 🙏

May be able to soak those fronds in water until the microbes eat everything except the fibers. More time but much less work and may produce a better product. Oils also help some fibers durability.
