In an outbreak that had no shortage of terrifying and ominous-looking tornadoes, this one is easily just as eerie looking as Cullman and just as terrifying to look at as Hackleburg. Even once this tornado became a wedge, it always looked as if it were walking, like a demon straight out of the sky. The damage this tornado caused is also disturbing, easily just as violent as Hackleburg and Smithville.
I called this monster from hell, the Stealth killer. Because the focus Around the world was on the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham tornado, and massive power outages from the Tennessee State Line to the Gulf of Mexico hardly anyone had noticed what had happened in DeKalb County until the next day
That outbreak was completely overwhelming because towns all over MS, AL and GA had severe damage from tornadoes that were not as televised as the Tuscaloosa storm or Hackleburg. Look at all of the just as violent tornadoes that hit places like Cordova or down near Lake Martin. Ringgold had the worst damage here in Georgia, but the Tuscaloosa storm also produced EF-3 tornadoes in the mountains. There were EF-2 and EF-3 tornadoes south of the Atlanta area late that night as well.
I watched as this monster came into view from my home, just off the North end of Church St. near the Hilltop community, I could hear the roar before I saw it !!! When it came into view, I though it was roping out, but it reformed in two or three seconds and look like a Stove Pipe!! It just got bigger and bigger, I quickly ran out doors and looked toward Marshall Road and it was already a Wedge!! My knees got weak, but when I knew my family was safe, I was alright. The landscape has changed!!!
There was a couple that lived in Rainsville that’s home was destroyed twice by tornadoes, I guess this was one of them. So they moved down the road from me here in southeastern Tennessee. On Dec1,2016, we was hit by an EF3 that did a lot of damage to my home, rendered it unlivable, and it destroyed this couples home….. once again!!!! Bless their hearts, they couldn’t hide from them!!!😢 A sad but very true story!!! It’s better to just laugh at the absurdity of it!!!!
God Bless all of you. I have survivors guilt. I'm 62 years old and for decades I've watched tornadoes all over north and Central Alabama but tornadoes just curve around us. Most of them start around Tupelo Mississippi and head straight for the Shoals area in North Alabama but just as they begin to cross the state line, they begin to curve around us and hit, you guessed it, the tornado magnet of America, Limestone County where they go to do their darned thing. I don't know how many times they've been hit but I know they've been hit by 2 F5s, one EF5 and just missed by one of the worst tornadoes ever, The Guin tornado. IT DESTROYED ALMOST THE ENTIRE TOWN,killing at least 23 injuring more than 250. And 546buildings were destroyed. Unfortunately for "lucky" Limestone county the Guin Tornado wasn't through, it took off like a jet on it's 132 mile trip to the north north, destroying hundreds of thousands of huge tembers in the Bankhead Forest as it raced toward Limestone county. Luckily for Limestone county, the blazing tornado began to veer to the East and Limestone was spared but Huntsville ville was clobbered by the F3 remains as the tornado climbed to the top of the 1640 foot high mountain, Montesano.
@gunsandbullets22 , cool. i talked to jeremy a couple weeks ago while he was in tennessee working. i have known your mom for along time... yes my grandparents old house is right beside your house. i heard ya'll had to hide by the chimney or something. i also heard lynn's car got messed up.. do you know if anyone was home when the tornado destroyed my grandparents old house. i meant to ask jeremy but forgot. tell your uncle wade i said hello also.

Ten years ago, my dad and I stood on our back porch and watch this tornado pass by in the distance. I've never felt so eerie or helpless in my life.
Glad you survived it brother. Do you still live in Rainsville? If so, how do you like it?

I live in Bryant/Higdon area...thanks for sharing. So much devastation all around in Alabama.
I drove through Rainsville and Sylvania yesterday and it was horrible. Couldn't believe what I was seeing.
right before it took out my grandparents old house on hwy 117 n co rd 138 between henagar and ider
30 minutes later my house is gone.
You must have had a heckuva sturdy house for it to survive that long!
Good video. Congrats on not violently shaking the camera
