Installing a sump pump for a lawn involves several steps and can seem like a daunting task. There are in fact a number of things to consider and, if certain components or design features are missing, a sump pump may not function properly. If you're thinking about installing a sump pump, check out this video and take the guess work out of the job!
NOTE: I forgot to mention in this video, but it is recommended to drill a 3/16" hole in the vertical pipe attached to the pump - this can be done a few inches above the pump itself. This hole prevents air from getting trapped in the pump, which is a problem, because pumps need to be always submersed in water!
Nice work sir! Where do you like to get your sump pump kits at? Nice green sump basin too haven't seen one like that before looks heavy duty.
Thank you! And it is pretty heavy duty - We go through a local supplier in the Dallas area, Longhorn Irrigation 👍
That pump does not require a weep hole to prevent air lock? Nice video
Good catch! Forgot to mention that in this video, but yes, an air-bleed or weep hole is necessary to prevent air lock. This pump was a kit and the hole was pre-drilled, but if you were constructing from scratch, you would want to drill a 3/16" hole in the vertical pipe. Thanks!
At 0:25 you can a piece of plywood mounted to the bottom of the pump for shipping. If you look in the bottom of the well at 5:29 you can still see the plywood attached to the bottom of the pump legs. Shouldn’t this plywood be removed allowing the 3 legs of the pump to rest in the indentions in the bottom of the basin?
Great question! This piece is often left as a stabilizing platform, but would work either way.
