Last Week I went glamping and hiking the Black Forest with my bf and our 2 year old kid and we filmed our trip. Nothing fancy, just having a good time and all. I m going to Germany in 3 days and i find searching so overwhelming and ambiguous about the baden wuttemberg region nothing is clear and simple so i would appreciate some advice or recommendations from fellow travelers or local germans about how to get the best of Black Forest and have an authentic experience. i just need some good stops i already know about baden baden and im curious route 500 vs baden wine road which one is worth driving to because i saw some videos about the high road there was only trees and no scenic views or whatsoever it was a let down after all the hype i had for the road.
Just a few, short questions, because I plan to walk this way as well: How many water sources are there ? Do I have to carry a big amount of water, or can I almost drink every hour or so ? Were you wild camping ? If yes, how did the people react, if they saw you ? How many supermarkets were on the way ? Do I need to carry lots of food, or can I buy every 2-3 days stuff in a supermarket ? Lots of questions, I know, I hope you can sacrifice a bit of your time to help me =) Awesome video with great shots by the way =)
Thank you! I will try to help you. You do not need more than 2 liters of water. There are plenty of springs and sources. From my memory: 1. Neuenuerg, 2.Schwanner Warte, 3.Hahnenfalz Huette, 4.Hexenbrunnen shortly before Forbech, 5. shortly after theWegscheidhuette, 6. the next hut, not even a Kilometer, 7.Wanderheim "Badener Hoehe, 8.Mummelsee church, 9. Freierberger Passhoehe, and 500 meter before 10. Haaghuette, 11. Kreuzsattelhuette, 11. Locherhuette, 12. Farrenkopf, 12. Buechereckhuette, 13. on the way to the Brend, 14. Source of the Donau, 15 after the Kalte Herberge, 16.on the Hotel Wiedener Eck, 17 Krinnenpass 100 meter left, 18. the one in the last day in the Video, it is for animals maybe but the water was good, 19. after the Blauen, 20. after the Wolfsschlucht in the next village, 21. on the way up to Basel. You can also ask in restaurants like me. Supermarkets are in: - Dobel, the main road down. - Forbach, right on the way. - Hausach, more than one. - Titisee, a bakery in the train station, with some groceries. - Kandern - Basel, in the train station I slept in the huts. Mich würde das durchschnittliche Gesamtgewicht der Ausrüstung bei der Wanderung interessieren und ebenso, wo und wie du jedesmal genächtigt hast. Ich nehme an, du hast draußen geschlafen? hey, I'm about to do this trail soon but only got time for a 3 day walk (50km and ending with going back to berlin), where do you suggest to start,skip, and end?
We have some awesome trails here in western Canada but wild life is always a concern. I'm wondering about the wild life in the Black Forest. Are there black bear, cougar and wolves like there are here on the British Columbia coast in Canada?
Really nice film thanks for sharing - I'm planning to do the Westweg in April this year is it too early and better to wait until a bit later maybe May or June for better weather? Also is there plenty of places to camp along the route? And are there many huts to stay in? Thanks again!
"...not the whole trail. You'll have problem s up to the Badener Hoehe and the Hornisgrinde. At least the last kilometers. There is the trail very steep and rocky. But you can take the forest road. Up to the Farrenkopf, Karlstein and definitely up to the Belchen (down to) you could have problems

I will walk from Forbach to Hausach in the next week ( at least a part of the Westweg ;) ).....I am surprised by your speed..it seems that you walked very fast on a long distance ( 30 km on the first day -> great job !)....Why did you not choose real hiking shoes instead of "running shoes" (so they seem to me) ?
I hiked the Westweg last week from Hausach to Basel and it's great to relive these moments by watching this film. Regarding the hike itself I got mixed feelings. The Black Forest is certainly a very nice area to hike, but some stages are quite boring (between Wilhemshöhe and Titisee which I did in roughly one day fortunately) and the many, many conifers tend to get monotonous after a while. The scenic views on the mountains more than make up for it, though. It seems you have used a very wide angle lens or even a fisheye. This made most of the images distorted imho.
What? 55 km an einem Tag? Das ist ja mal richtig Hardcore! Kannst du mal sagen, was deine Etappen waren oder an welchen Orten du genächtigt hast? Würde mich echt interessieren, um die Distanzen mal einordnen zu können, aber im Video erkennt man nicht immer wann ein Tag zu Ende ist und wann ein neuer beginnt. Ganz am Ende sieht man ja noch Basel im Dunkeln. War das noch eine Übernachtung kurz vorm Ziel? War das die 6. oder 7. Nacht? Sorry falls ich nerve, aber ich finde die ganze Westweg-Thematik gerade super interessant. ;)

Toll, bin ich auch schon gelaufen. Durch umwege waren es aber ca. 320km
