I am an extreme horror girlie. But The Painter doesn't work for me. It starts at gore level 10, and there is no way to go up from there. There is no build up of tension. The gore in the original Psycho shower scene isn't scary without the stalking and creepiness first. May Leitz and Jon Athan are 2 extreme horror authors I really love, and they BUILD to the horror. They don't have any boundaries and their stuff is called extreme for a reason. But the first person killed in The Painter is stabbed 30+ times. The next person has their face ripped off. Like...how do you raise the bar? How do you create tension? Everyone just gets stabbed in the anus 937362 times and they're dismissed. It's why I don't love this series. However!! The newer episodes do show some promise. The 911 call, the actress is phenomenal. And the video footage is really fun and spooky. He's got the right tools I believe to pull off extreme horror. But it started so high and without tension it just couldn't move forward. That's my not asked for analysis lol. Great video!!!

I am not gonna lie.. This crap needs to be given a warning by TH-cam. Its trying to hard, but that is what makes it so unsettling to me. Its unnecessarily brutal. And the killers are clearly human, or humanoid. The one guy in the casette tape in the Pigs episode, who had yellow teeth and was mimicing chomping, the guy is human. No question. Thats my harshest criticism, its too brutal, to the point where it seems obvious they are trying too hard. To me, horror is horror. You don't need buildup to make it a horror, like, to me its black and white. Horror is horror. The painter is a horror. Buildup is good to have in horror, but it doesn't make it less of a horror series. And the scary part about it is that this could happen in real life. Stuff like the Smile tapes, the mandela catalog, that stuff is highly unlikely to happen in real life. But something like this could happen. There are sick people out there.
The bad thing is that "The killer artist" is definitely something that could be worked into a good story, but Urbanspook drops the ball so hard. There's no leads, no story, no reason to care about the victims, it's just murder, painting, rinse, repeat. It's so replicable that I made a shitpost in the style of Urbanspook about Obungus Shrimpleton's ass being shoved into a flashlight and the painting being called "Obungus Fleshlight."
The great risk of only using shock horror is that once the shock wears off (or worse, if it fails to shock), you have nothing left to scare the audience.
Probably not a surprise it definitely looks like UrbanSpook completely abandoned the series; it's been nearly a year since he uploaded a video in the series (when he used to pump out one a month) and on his Instagram, the most recent thing that could possibly be linked to The Painter was made in May, but the caption made absolutely ZERO reference to The Painter. I think it's safe to say the series is done.

Study the worst crimes in history, and can confirm. Humanity is twisted as hell. But even the most messed up would not do all this. At least not in this time era, since they would be caught quickly. And even serial killers usually draw the line at children, and sexually assaulting children like it is implied with Cory and his sister. This story is pure shock value and gore for gores sake. It would make more sense if he was some monster or demon. But the creator insists it is a human.

UrbanSpook is honestly one of the worst analog horror creators. UrbanSpook only had ONE good scene in the entire series, and that was the phone call; the voice actor did an amazing job on that.. its not even scary, it just makes me wonder whats on this creator's hard-drive also (allegedly cause im not sure) Urbanspook apparently hates the Analog horror genre, and just did this series to sell his paintings, which, kinda explains why the quality is so poor
I hate that this has some interesting concepts but just no ability behind it as a writer. The ones like Tom (becoming art both physically and as a painting in the wax) and Fred's sandpapered head were so interesting and horrible. And without overreaching into 'you're just doing this to be edgy' territory. But then it just kept devolving into SA and CSA especially. And there was just no sinew holding all these bones together even if they hadn't repeatedly gone too edgy. Serial killer exists and does crimes is not a story; you need to either follow the killer, a surviving victim who is being stalked still or the people trying to catch the killer for a story to come of that topic. It's just such a waste.
It can be a really good and cool crime, mistery, investigation type a story. But no he just wanna put his fetish and sells his merch, which is a horrible way of promoting your merch and art btw. In my opinion i don't think putting a paiting of a dead child really make people likes you.
people are ocmplaining that this series is just shock value and they gotta be genius's or something. like obviously. it doesnt have entitys or phenomina its just to phsycotic killers. instead of "oh image this creepy entity killing you" its "oh imagine this creepy guy killing this person in this way thats so fucked why would anyone do this this person needs to be stopped." instead of there being a reason its simply just 2 killers. It really shows the fear that these 2 put into the area they were in. instead of paranoia of some group of entitys they know nothing about they KNOW they are dealing with crazy people that will kill them and humiliate them in the worst ways so they hide and pray and beg, and i think this series captures it perfectly. no cinimatic horror. rarely any "jumpscares" and little to figure out. its simply just shock value. something most analouge series lack. at first it was bump but it gets better with acting and more effort. it makes you think "oh what could possibly happen next im ready" then your not. itll geniunely scare you and question "what the fuck???" the same thought everyone in the area was thinking. so they hid. i hope my thoughts on this make sense and i think people are only looking at the factor that its fucked. imagine if this happened irl. obv people would be terrified and mad but thats exactly how i feel it is in this universe. everone is so disgusted and mad yet so scared and its just pure horror. i find this in the top 3. it goes walten files, mandela catalpouge. and this. this doesnt have much story. its more of you figure it out as you go instead of sudden messages you have to decode. its like he knew he was making some edgy shit and he knew someone who knew his perspective knew what this series is capable of. truly good. way too hated on. although i can see it hope this makes sense
The problem is. Urban Spook goes too far involving sexual assault on minors. Plus, irl. In this day and age. No killer would be able to get this far and kill that many people without leaving a paper trail of all the stuff they would need to commit the crimes. Plus the DNA they leave at the crime scenes. The story is too gory and over the top. And reads more like a teen writing a creepy pasta , or demon story. Not a 'real life criminal case'. I study criminals throughout history. The many methods they have killed. The kind of victims. Thing is. All killers have a preferred victim. But the painter for some reason goes for everyone. Yet clearly plans it all out so well. It makes no sense when you apply how actual serial killers work. Many will stalk their victims before hand. But again, have a specific victim type. Urban Spook just keeps changing the methods, victims, and how far the killer will go. Like adding rape and such for shock value. Then realized it may not make that much sense if it is just one human. So added the 'it is two killers working together' twist.
There's extreme the there's this shit tf man also ima be honest the storys mid so godam mid not tension what's so ever zero godam build up its just there also there's no reason for me to give a single shit about any of the characters except like issable because I mean fist of voice acting was fucking phenomenal 10/10 but other then that why should I care? Do I give a shit about Fred? No not really I don't know fucking Fred and so in turn I give zero shits about his fictional murder. If urban spook want to make his series even remotely good he needs to calm tf down and dial back the gore and focus on the actual story raise the stakes a bit
