  • Let's take a drive through Japanese history together.
As well as I can remember, there were and are still just a few iconic structures than are cemented into foreign (American) minds and what Japan is exactly.
1st is Tokyo Tower in Tokyo. If anyone ways Skytree, they don't know what they're talking about and you should stop taking advice from this individual at all levels.
2nd is Shibuya Crossing also in Tokyo. The chaotic criss cross of business men to anime nerds connecting for a moment as they bump elbows in the intersection, briefly, before disconnecting and carrying on with they completely opposite lives lived in their own unique way is a fun sight and juxtaposition. Visual sonder.
3rd. Itsukushima Shine. A grandest orange Torii gate hovering above calm water. Picturesque.
(Somehow Hiroshima doesn't make this list. Possibly in other countries with different histories)
Finally. 2 sports in Kyoto. Fushimi Inari Taisha with its never-ending smaller orange Torii games and Kiyomizudera. Arguably the most visited places in Japan and both bringing their own unique beauty. Although I can't drive my car to the front door, (I did ride a bike there and I was immediately kicked out) we drive around the base where stations are and people gather before making their ascent.
