      What is "Germany" in this scenario? Personally, I don't think there's any chance Hitler's regime persists after a successful invasion by Poland; it'd be too much of a national humilitation, potentially one sufficient to spark revolutionary action.

    • @aragathor
      @aragathor 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @@Meeperstein101 When Hitler started the annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938, a group of Army officers were in the early stages of a coup (the Oster conspiracy). If there was any military reaction to it, they would have raised the army against the Nazis. In 1934 a military action by Poland (an unlikely scenario) would have seen Hitler deposed quickly. And then the Nazis either get banned or splinter into smaller parties.

      I think the war would be over a bit too quick for that, keep in mind that Germanys army was just 100k soldiers, that's probably not enough to even cover the frontline with Poland. The war would probably be over with a Polish occupation of Berlin within the year, especially because the war wasn't over total victory but rather a negotiated peace

    The Allies were very belligerent in this timeline. By being THIS aggressive towards the Axis before they even did anything remotely dangerous, it would cause the allies some serious internal turmoil because they would be killing potential jobs. Don’t forget this is the Great Depression, and German “Tractors” would be great places to export steel and rubber, giving jobs for the colonies, shipping, and steel mills. It also makes the Allies look extremely aggressive to the point of actually looking like the bad guys. Why get into a hissy fit over useless sand in Libya or uncolonized land with people who are your ally’s ally?

      Yeah, I was going to say. I get that the whole video is about "What if everything went terribly", but a significant portion of the French population was still against a military intervention against Germany even on the eve of our timeline's Polish invasion. I don't think there's any chance of the French government doing even half the stuff in this video without collapsing. All of this would also alienate the US from the Allies.

    I feel like Poland would support Japan in their conflict with USSR. with Germany being very weakened, and Poland still upset about the eastern border, they would at the very least support japan with guns and volounteers.

      Dawg I don't think any amount of Polish support could turn the tide in that war. The Soviets simply overmatch the Japanese in any land war despite initial setbacks and Poland in the 1940s or late 1930s is in no position to act as anything more than a regional power.

It gives Germany a cassis belle that they ACTUALLY were being oppressed by the allies and were defending their sovereignty, plus it angers the Americans by violating their belief in the right to self determination in a geopolitical sense.
      Internally considering this is the era of the Great Depression, it would piss off their own citizens that the country was intervening in other nations so harshly while their own people lacked jobs. By shutting down Germany’s attempts at economic recovery, it would reduce potential export locations and may kill potential jobs in their own land.

    The problem with the idea that France and Britain could intervene in Germany in the mid 1930s is that they were still recovering from the great depression, their armies were critically underfunded and unprepared for any military action, and the public had very little motivation to fight a war. This is the main reason why we ended up with a "phoney war" for the first few months of World War II - France and Britain were scrambling to prepare their militaries, but not actually actively fighting against Germany to any significant degree.
    This is also the main reason why Neville Chamberlain chose to appease Germany. He wasn't an idiot, and knew that Germany would use the opportunity to become more powerful, but he also knew that Britain wouldn't have been able to fight a war against Germany at the time without catastrophic losses and a significant risk of being defeated. It is certainly possible that if he had chosen to oppose Hitler earlier, the Allies could have still won the war, and even that the war could have been won sooner, but this was only a possibility, not guaranteed, and it would have been a huge risk for Britain to take.

    16:00 16:45 Highly unlikely, for the simple reason that the upper echelons of the the American government were remarkably sympathetic to the Soviets as a progressive utopian project built out of the ruins of a reactionary empire, and a potential ally in the decolonization of Africa (as would become the case in 1956 with the Suez Crisis) and dealing with the Japanese in China. It also didn't hurt that their economic ideas were within shouting distance of the New Deal's and most of their atrocities weren't well-known at the time, with the few that were known being heavily disputed thanks to the Soviets' own propaganda apparatus.
    Dean Acheson, Joseph Davies, Harry Hopkins, etcetera, are just a few of the well-known individual examples.

    7:30 I’d argue that the rise of Mussolini wouldn’t happen in this cracked “everything goes wrong” timeline. A lot of people, reportedly Mussolini included, didn’t expect him to actually take power. I don’t remember the specific story but at some point before becoming the leader of Italy he was basically waiting on the border to see if he’d be exiled or not.

  • @alehaim

    As someone with more extensive knowledge on the second Sino-Japanese war, the Soviets historically only truly began supporting the Chinese communists after they began winning the Chinese civil war which came after mere token Soviet support during the aftermath of the Japanese surrender like giving the communists a headstart to taking over the Japanese occupation of the region. Based on historical precedent, the Soviets supported whichever side was more power in China out of pragmatism of having an ally against the Japanese, and basically the Nationalists doing better in this timeline and being a vital ally of the Soviets against Japan, I would see the Soviets out of pragmatism supporitng the Nationalists until the defeat of Japan on the mainland, after which there would be tensions between the two over Sinkiang, Mongolia and Manchuria.
    The Soviets absolutely wouldn't have total dominance over China, because with European strengthened position in Europe would mean no loss of Indochina and Burma around 1941, which in turn would entail that the Chinese Nationalists would have basically an uninterrupted flow of goods via Indochina, while the Burma road could be constructed as an additional route even without the fall of Indochina in 1940 due to otl fall of France missing, and thus the Chinese nationalists are not limited to just at most some over 30 thousand tons of supplies monthly via air that was only sufficient for defense, but instead they would have a continued 9 thousand ton monthly supply route via the Burma road that would definitely increase in quantity with purchase of more trucks and expansion of the road.
    With this uninterrupted source of supply, the nationalists would be able to continue arming their forces to not only replace losses, but start building up a force capable of assaults, and thus eventually you'd see the Nationalists have sufficient enough equipped forces that they would be willing to risk losing with their loyal forces blockading the communists also supplied simultaneously, as the prize of pushing back the Japanese and regaining territory woudl seem more lucrative than not doing nothing, especially if the Japanese were losing to the Soviets as the cost of not trying to push would beocme the Soviets and thus maybe the communsits having a stronger foothold.
